(Asynchronous & Offline) Handwriting Recognition
There are several note-taking Apps which provide handwriting recognition. Most of them (actually the ones that I have tested or looked into) provide this kind of recognition with at least one of these two options:
- they try to recognize handwriting on-the-fly (synchronous) which results in the user having to permanently correct mis-recognized parts of her/his text thus slowing down in writing (useless for taking notes in meetings)
- they try to recognize handwriting by using web services thus requiring online connection and transfering possible sensitive informations off the users tablet. (useless in situations where no wifi or mobile connections are available and when sensitive informations should be written down)
Therefor GoodNotes should not only provide handwriting recognition, but also provide it in an offline and asynchronous way. Think about the scenario when taking notes in a meeting quickly and wanting to convert the handwriting at a later point in time to text before exporting it into a searchable PDF. To accomplish this the lasso feature (currently used for selecting an arbitrary part of the note) could be enhanced to have an option like "convert selection to text".

I do not believe this is complete as it relates to the comment of handwriting recognition on the fly. There is another app that has this and does a much better job at converting handwriting accurately. I like so many features of GoodNotes but keep going back to the other app due to better handwriting recognition. If you could significantly improve this, you would be close to perfect.
