Horizontal Split Screen
The average engineering student spends most of their time either taking notes or exercising and practicing off a sheet much like the one visible in the screenshots.
The current situation provides no comfortable way of displaying the assignments without the use of a secondary device or constantly "tabbing" back and forth between assignments and notes to copy them.
As of iPad OS 13.4.1, Apple has still not implemented horizontal split-screen with many users suggesting that it may never happen.
A splitscreen feature within GoodNotes would provide an elegant and intuitive solution in any situation where both viewing a document and taking notes is required.
A visualization of this concept is provided in a third screenshot.
Another nice approach would be "inserting horizontal space" in existing documents like known from OneNote. This would however alter the page format and likely cause issues with the GoodNotes framework.

Yes! Notability has this and it is brilliant! You can open your textbook in the upper half and take notes below.
And since both „windows“ use the complete screen width, you can actually READ WHOLE LINES of text, without permanently scrolling left/right or zooming so far out, that the letters are just pinprick sized and almost unreadable. Also, if you want to copy an equation or diagram from a pdf in Notability, you can just select it with the lasso and then directly drag and drop, without the hassle of first making a screenshot and then selecting copy from the share menu of the popover screenshot window.

Yes! Please implement this feature. It is absolutely essential for studying and one shouldn't wait for Apple to introduce horizontal split screen. (Still won't happen in 2021 iPadOS.)
