Folder Sharing
Feature Request: Shared Folder Collaboration with Real-Time Updates
Dear GoodNotes Team,
I am a teacher who relies on GoodNotes daily for lesson planning, organizing resources, and collaborating with colleagues. While I truly appreciate the powerful tools GoodNotes offers for handwriting and annotation with the Apple Pencil, there is one feature that would greatly improve collaboration for educators:
The ability to share entire folders with colleagues so that multiple users can:
Add new documents to a shared folder.
Write on and annotate shared documents using the Apple Pencil.
View and access changes in real time, including edits, new notes, or added files.
Currently, we can share individual documents, but the inability to collaborate across entire folders makes it difficult to manage shared lesson plans, student resources, and collaborative projects efficiently.
Providing folder-level sharing with real-time updates would make GoodNotes an indispensable tool for teams of teachers who need to work together seamlessly. This feature would allow us to better serve our students and streamline collaboration across classrooms.
Thank you for considering this request. Many educators would greatly benefit from these enhancements, and we would be excited to see GoodNotes continue leading the way in digital learning tools.
Sincerely,
Desperate Teacher

I completely agree!
This feature would be very helpful for me. Being able to share entire folders with the team and get notifications when someone makes changes its a must!

Great suggestion! Sharing folders with team members would really improve collaboration. By the way, if you enjoy strategy and creativity, you might want to check out this pokemon team builder at https://buildpokemonteam.com/

This would be helpful for a variety of contexts. For example, I use Goodnotes for digital worksheets for my special needs child. (Best app in my opinion for this purpose) I want to be able to have them access on their own device the same folders I have set up for them on my device. I use my device to manage instead of theirs since their device travels with them to grandparents’. That way any adult who is working with my child can use my child’s iPad or laptop if I’m using mine or if my child is visiting and I can manage/create/ or delete finished when my child is visiting grandparents’.

Hi GoodNotes Team,
I want to start by saying how much I love GoodNotes. The writing experience is unmatched, and it’s been my go-to app for teaching. My students love how clean and organized the notes look, and I love how natural it feels to use.
But here’s the problem: as a teacher, I need to be able to share my notes with students in a view-only mode that auto-updates. Right now, my only options are:
Exporting PDFs daily (which is too time-consuming across multiple classes), or
Sharing collaboration links (which let students edit — not workable in a classroom).
Because of this limitation, I can’t continue using GoodNotes for teaching, even though I’d rather stay. Other apps (like Notability and Nebo) already allow either auto-backup to a cloud folder or publish-to-web links where students can always see the latest version but can’t edit.
Please know: I’m not leaving because I don’t love your app. I’m leaving because this one missing feature makes it impossible for me to use GoodNotes in my classroom. If view-only live sharing ever comes to GoodNotes, I’ll be the first one back.
Thank you for all the work you put into making GoodNotes so great. I hope you’ll consider teachers like me who want to keep using it, but need that one extra feature to make it work in real classrooms.
Sincerely,
A Teacher Who Really Wants to Sta -

I did not realize that sharing a link with my students would enable them to edit my documents. I JUST WANT THEM TO SEE THEM! saving them to pdf and then changing my website every day for 4 classes is a no go for me. I will be cancelling my subscription and looking for something else.

It would be really helpful if we had the option to share folders with our partners—like for shopping lists, to-do lists, or other shared tasks. Being able to collaborate like that would make things so much easier and more organized. Just a thought! Same, same... just had a horrible incident with yr 7 students editing the screen then not being able to verify the student that was doing it. I have an idea... but cannot use as evidence. please help!

Actually, I thought if we had an option to we can share our folder with our partners. It would be really nice for example. Something like shopping list or to-do list or anything like this if we would have an option like this it would be really amazing.

This was a function available in Goodnotes 5 however it has sadly been removed. Being able to share a folder with collaborators allows users to immediately share new documents with people that have access to that folder, rather than having to share each individual document! Please bring this function back!

Need this function!!! My family and I have several iPads, and we can only share individual notes for our children to do homework. I hope to be able to share all the notes in a folder with him.

My college teacher uses GoodNotes live in class. It would be nice if he could share his notes live with the class in a view only-manner, but allowing us students to take notes locally without affecting his document.

This would really help us for our work.

Yes! This should be a critical next step for GoodNotes to add! We use the collaborator feature with discipleship documents for each person within our Church. It would save so much time to house all of these documents under one shared file RATHER than doing it document by document.

I currently use this feature extensively on Notability and its lack on Goodnotes is the only thing stopping me from switching.
As a teacher it’s just too much work to convert to PDF, then share with students every time I make an edit, or complete another worked example. Whereas with this feature you just update the link (or it syncs in real time) and the students hit refresh on the same link.

share a folder and everything in it, plus enable viewing on web too. this would solve my problem of not being able to use cross syncing in windows and ipad.

WWDD? What would DropBox do? Sharing/Collaboration has to be greatly improved. I have a folder with 70+ notes files for my clients. My assistant has to access all of them. It took the better part of an hour to activate them all. Not fun. Not easy. Not good.

Like, seriously? Must we even ask for this? Come on Goodnotes, stop sleeping!!! We need to share entire folders....I can be paying for this and then have to go through all this trouble to share with my team members!!! I am NOT happy!!!
