Optimize battery usage of GoodNotes
Goodnotes is a huge battery drainer, so I hope the next up date will optimize the app resources so it uses less power
We’re investigating the battery drain that happens for some users already.

This is a massive problem, especially when auto-backup is enabled. It will attempt to convert to pdf every time a minor stroke is added. If you add a stroke per second, it will attempt to convert to pdf and backup every second. Not surprisingly, the battery life is absolutely horrendous as a result.

I also find that GoodNotes is using 70-80% of my battery life in a day, and I only have it open for a few hours. I sometimes have to close the app during lulls in my lectures to conserve my battery due to this severe drain. I love the app, but this is a major problem for me.

Please take a look at battery drain across all ipad pro devices from 2015 - 2020. Battery is crucial to goodnotes because if you don't have battery - you cant use goodnotes - then what good is the software - and why should any future customer buy and why would any current customer pay more money.
I cant just buy a $1000 ipad just to get good battery life for my goodnotes, when the old ipad is just good enough.

I agree that anything you can do to optimize the battery usage should be a real priority. Perhaps have an option that energy intensive tasks (e.g. indexing PDF's) would only happen when plugged into a power supply.

My battery drains way too quick using GoodNotes 5. It's the only app running and in about 2 hours I lost 40%. This is a really big issue, especially in these times where I rely on my iPad during several lectures.
Please fix this or enable some battery saving mode; anyway, how is so much battery drained by such a relatively simple app? -

GoodNotes 5 still uses A LOT of battery on iPad. I have noticed that it consumes as much as 10% per hour which is huge. I usually use GoodNotes on my iPad to takes notes during my lectures that can long up to 3 hours so that means I would lost 30% for a single lecture and this is a real problem. Please fix this.
My specifications: iPad Pro 2018 11" on iPadOS 13.4. GoodNotes 5 (5.4.17) used with Apple Pencil 2.

Excessive battery use, more than 50% in just 3 hours of use.
It also shows warmth in certain x
ipad zones. -

Massive battery drain on Goodnotes 5 now, on iPad Pro 9.7" with Apple Pencil: 80% dropped to 44% in one hour time.
This is not incidental. I have to keep the ipad powered during use of goodnotes, which means I can't use it to take notes in school.iPad gets really warm in the middle of the far right side (oriented the home button on the bottom).
This is something of the last months, can't exactly see since when exactly. -

so whats the deal here? you are investigating since before June 18? what are the results? goodnotes is still a massive battery drain in my iPad pro.

Hmm...interesting problem. I don't have the same problem with my ipad pro left on (not the screen) for most of the day.

For about the past month or so, I have had to keep my iPad Pro (2 years old) connected to a power source when using GoodNotes. By far, GN is the main user of battery power of all the apps on my iPad Pro (lately >70% of battery use each day just for GN). When I tried to uncheck "Use iCloud" for automatic backups in Settings, even though I checked "Keep Data on This Device," I was not able to see any data in my GN folders on the iPad Pro. Had to turn iCloud back on to get to the data. There seems to be no way to reduce rate of power draw when using GN. This is potentially fatal to my use of the application. I started using GN as a note-taking app for doing energy audits in the field and will be unable to continue to do so until this problem is resolved. I used to get 6-8 hours of audit time without charging, now can only get 1-2 hours.
