Optimize battery usage of GoodNotes
Goodnotes is a huge battery drainer, so I hope the next up date will optimize the app resources so it uses less power
We’re investigating the battery drain that happens for some users already.

VERY unhappy about the huge battery drain. I put my iPad Pro 12.9 inch into airplane mode and it still drained my iPad to 6% in under under 4 hours. I may have to stop using it altogether, which is sad because I’ve switched over to digital planner, calendar, notes. Using it as a one place for all my stuff. This is very upsetting.

I'm not sketching landscapes on it, I simply use it to highlight PDF files on the new iPad Pro 12.9. However it heats up so much and drains so fast that if I want to use it for a day it needs to be plugged in to a power source continuously and ahead of time since the power coming in is less than the extreme usage.

I just started noticing this issue with my GoodNotes app draining the battery on my iPad Pro too. Just the last few days. I have read on Reddit that uninstalling the app and reinstalling has fixed the issue for some. I'm going to do that and report back in a few days.

Same situation with my iPad Pro, heating up, battery drain in just an hour or two puts it below 50%. I can’t get through a whole day anymore.

I've been using Goodnotes for a while and just recently have started running into the issue of battery drainage. Was there an issue with the most recent update?

I am having the exact same problem on a brand new iPad Pro 10.5 with GoodNotes and the Apple Pencil. Battery drain happens right before my eyes and the battery monitor shows GoodNotes as the culprit. CAn someone PLEASE address this issue? I love GoodNotes but this is a dealbreaker...

I have goodnotes for years. Recently it drains my battery 20% in less than one hour with Apple Pencil. I hope they do something about it.

I just connected the dots, the battery drain started becoming a problem when I started using the apple pencil with Goodnotes. I hope this helps.

I have been using Goodnotes for many years and with good results. More recently something happened to the app where it drains my battery in a very short time. This is such a great app but with this power drain it's becoming unusable as my go-to notes app.

I'm also seeing the same behaviour running a new Ipad Pro. I've found leaving it open but with the screen off still slams my battery. No acknowledgement from Goodnotes - doesn't seem to be a priority...

I agree. Running a new iPad Pro 10.5. Not running auto backup, but am doing iCloud sharing. Usually on WiFi.
The app is the top user of battery resources by far. Seems to munch through battery reserve. Makes me very concerned i won’t get a full day’s charge from this device. Never had that issue before, even with movies!
Looks like this has been a long standing issue. I don’t want to use an alternative but this is a killer.

I have the same problem here!
Today, my iPad Pro 10.5 running iOS 11.2, started from 100% of battery at 10:00, and it was down to about 50% by 12:00, and 10% by about 14:00. Moreover...my iPad was super intensely warm! This was ridiculously bad. If nothing is improved soon I think I will go with other note taking apps! Seriously! -

Just to update further, battery stats show Goodnotes as having 18 mins on screen! 18 mins with 32% battery usage??

Still bad today. Using Goodnotes heavily for training notes, started the day (9:30) with a 100% battery, currently 12:10 and down to 42%. Goodnotes is showing as 32% battery usage. It hasn't even been constantly on!

I run a company with about 50 employees, and all of the employees have been given an iPad to use & we used to officially recommend Goodnotes for a while. But, everyone started complaining about battery life after they started using this app. The battery drain is equivalent to a rich graphics 3D game like Asphalt 8, which is just insane. Even my new iPad lasts just 4 to 5 hours when using Goodnotes, which is fatal. Now, we have decided to stop recommending this app and instead will be shifting to notability. And I have made it a point to let every company with which I have professional relationship know of the hazardous impact of using Goodnotes for note taking, and 3 companies which used to use Goodnotes ( a total of about 1000 people) have had to give up using it, following their own bad experiences and my advice. A company which cannot solve this criitical & fatal flaw despite many complaints over the years cannot be trusted. If Goodnotes someday do resolve the issues then many of us might think about switching, but I dont think thats coming anytime in the near future. Because the way the situation is right now, Goodnotes definitely doesn’t care. Sad, that such a capable app ended up like this.
