Don’t disable speech for selected text.
I have a cognitive deficit and having the iPad read a PDF to me is key to allowing me to highlight and annotate. I can write all day long but can’t read large blocks of text. Hearing the text read while following along works best for me.

Indeed, there already is a great text to speech engine native to ipad-os, it's a shame that it isn't usable in the app!

Hello I have a learning disability and having to copy the text to another app to be able to read from speech selection is very difficult.
