Rectangular Lasso Tool
Some free programs, like CollaNote have a rectangular lasso tool where you drag the top left point to the bottom right that is honestly faster in a lot of cases for very straightforward notes, instead of needing to draw a nearly fully closed circle.

I am a user who uses both Notability and GoodNotes. I think GoodNotes is a good app, but the reason why I still pay the expensive annual subscription fee for Notability is because the convenience of creating wrong answer notes using the lasso tool is much better than GoodNotes. Please make the lasso tool available in square shape as well. (Like a mouse cursor.) Please make the screenshot using the lasso tool easier. Please, please, please, please, please improve it… Oh, and I would love to have a vapor pen mode. Instead of a laser pointer, if there was a vapor pen mode that would disappear after about 5 minutes, I’m sure people would be able to solve problems more conveniently when they solve workbooks. I think Notability is the strongest competitor of GoodNotes. Please beat them. (The subscription fee is too expensive… I can’t switch because of the convenience…)

Unlike Samsung, apple does not provide any tool for taking fast screenshots with apple pencil.
At the time when you need to transport many images or portions of a text from one page to another (e.g. while doing a summary of a lecture), using iPad you need to select lasso -> screenshot -> « share symbol » -> copy -> paste.
This takes a lot of time, it would be great if you guys at Goodnotes could provide a second lasso (maybe even with rectangular/oval selection, etc) that instantly does a screenshot + copy, so that this process would be faster.
I tried to do the same summary on Samsung, the time is cut in half. Apple would be very grateful and me too -

Notability has this feature, which takes less than a second to use once selecting. By contrast, I have to freehand and entire rectangular lasso around the text I want to copy each time, or worse, screenshot then crop it to be neat. Please help bu adding this super simple feature in addition to the freehand lasso

Non-Auto-Recognition Shape Tool: A manual shape drawing tool for users with fine motor challenges, like a light tremor. This tool would allow for more control in drawing and adjusting shapes, reducing reliance on auto-recognition which can misinterpret shapes due to unsteady hand movements.
Rectangular Selection Tool: In addition to the existing lasso tool, a rectangular selection tool would offer precise selection capabilities, especially useful in structured documents.

Hi GoodNotes team,
Thanks for developing an amazing notetaking app for iPad. I just have some suggestions for the mac version to improve workflow and efficiency.
I like your app, but I want to love it.HIGH PRIORITY - makes the app annoying to use:
- clicking on a page thumbnail in the side bar NEEDS to bring me to that page
- change template (especially page size) for entire notebook/multiple pages
- multi-page selection is broken. it should also be optimised with [cmd + click] and [shift + click]
- DELETING A PAGE TAKES THREE CLICKS. AND SINCE MULTI-PAGE SELECTION IS CURRENTLY BROKEN, DELETING MULTIPLE PAGES IS A NIGHTMARE! mac shortcut for (multiple) deleting pages such as [click, delete] or [cmd + delete] needed. mac preview app optimises the side bar very well, goodnotes needs to catch up
- [cmd + z] after deleting a page should recover the page
- pressing [enter] should register as clicking on 'Apply' such as when changing a page templateMedium priority:
- pop-ups should be instant, or an option should be provided in settings to toggle them. for example:
- double clicking on a tool in the toolbar slowly opens tool options pop-up. this
is intuitive for iPad, but this is headache-inducing and not suited for mac
- right clicking on a page thumbnail in the side bar slowly opens more options.
this should be instant
- allow right clicking of tool in toolbar -> immediately open tool optionsLow priority:
- add rectangular selection alongside/replacing lasso tool as using a lasso on trackpad is much more difficult
- compatability with macbook pro touchbar
- addition of customisable text styles for typing mode, microsoft word does this wellThanks for reading
p.s. typing all this out in the tiny feedback box was great -

Also Make copy feature instead of screenshot with rectangle lasso option

Absolutely critical, it should be the default. I'm tired of drawing around, accidentally including something, and having to start over.

Hey, I love using the lasso tool for moving my handwritten stuff. But sometimes I need to take screenshots of tables from my books to paste in my notes. So, a lasso tool in shape of a rectangle will be very useful for me.
Something like you provide to crop a image. We have two options there- either do a freehand or in rectangle shape. Please provide something similar with lasso tool.
Thank you. And yes I love Goodnotes 5! :)

Sometimes I need to quick copy and paste but having to draw around it all the time is pretty tedious

Adding the option to a rectangular shape lasso would make the workflow better, you lose a lot of time going all around the things you want to select.

Even though there are lots of things that I like more about GoodNotes, the lasso tool features and work flow are considerably worse than the Notability counterpart. As a previous Notability user the select tool was by far one of my most used features and thus far there really isn’t anything that I like more about the GoodNotes lasso tool, just lots of things that bug me. It should be noted though that I’m very new to GoodNotes so I apologize if any of the below are existing features that I just haven’t figured out yet.
1. A number of people have already mentioned this but not being able to drag selections between pages is a huge inconvenience.
2. Notability allows you to choose between rectangular and lasso select which is very useful
3. If you select an area of a pdf that doesn’t have your hand writing on it and want to insert that somewhere else, I really don’t like having to “take a screenshot” and then select share and copy as opposed to making a selection and then just clicking “copy” like in Notability.
4. Being able to resize images was built into the Notability select tool - you’d just tap on an image and the borders would show up. It’s certainly a small thing but I liked that work flow way more than having to select edit while in the shape tool to resize. -

It's quite an inconvenience being unable to use a rectangle Lasso tool and I think it's necessary to add this capability.

Sometimes you have to copy text or an image from a pdf to another page, and it would be great to do this with the lasso tool. But then the lasso tool would need the auto shape option to grab an image without anything else and give it a rectangular shape.
