I think this is an important feature. For example, when doing problem sets in a textbook, it is often helpful to refer back to the chapter on a page coming before the problem definition. Currently you have to use the navigation interface to flip between the two.
It would also be useful to be able to view two tabs simultaneously in different panes for the same reason, but I think this is less important.
