Maybe my app is defective but it's wild that mine does not seem to allow this a full ten years later. Quite a catastrophic deficit.

I can export as a pdf from remarkable and import into goodnotes but not searchable because no ocr layer.
I’ve tried paid adobe acrobat to create a layer but it doesn’t work.
I need a workflow on my iPad for this.

Similar to how OneNote does it, being able to have OCR on any photos in imported PDFs/documents, or any photos with text that are inserted into GoodNotes would unequivocally make GoodNotes the #1 note taking app.

With Freeform now on iOS, we need to get that scribbles including OCR into GoodNotes.

Absolutely NEED OCR for images pasted into goodnotes.
I paste lots of outside resources into my notes, and need Goodnotes to be able to index those when searching.

Outlines takes alot of time by creating, there should be small side column especially in right side where we can select and drag the terms, just click on the, outline all description comes.
Its difficult to read whole book 0f 300 pages above, for revision in few hours.
So why dont you jus create outlines..
Its very good idea

Text in image screenshots should be searchable 😞

Similar to the comment previous to mine, I have a lot of PDFs that I haven’t scanned in myself that have text that isn’t recognizable. They are recognized on Notability, however I still prefer the organization and the ability to search on the iOS app within a document that GoodNotes has. Please extend the OCR feature to include searching text within “pre-made” imported documents and images! Thank you!

I really love goodnotes - the OCR of my handwriting is fabulous. But I have LOTS scans of (pre-goodnotes) paper notes that I would love to OCR. Please, please ....

Please oh please and very please add OCR for PDF files. Lack of this is the only reason I'm using notability.

It’s possible with notability - such a shame...

I often paste screenshots of slides into goodnotes during lecture, and write over them. I can already search my writing. I would like to be able to search text on the inserts too.

I've been looking for an app with this function for years.
Can't find one. I would pay for the service more than for any other app.
And btw make OCR ceep the format of the Handwriting or make it support Markdown, so that you can export your handwritten Text and when you paste it in a Markdown Editor it is formatted perfectly -

I would pay $200+ for the app if it could do this.

Why the hell is this not a feature yet? People have been asking for this for 5 years. Google’s API in docs should make this possible...

Yes please, I would move from OneNote if images / scanned documents could also have their text searchable.

I previously used Noteshelf and Nebo before I saw the Goodnotes "light" - I still have many pages of *handwritten* notes in other applications which I want to migrate to Goodnotes because it can search my handwriting so easily.
Goodnotes already has the feature to OCR scan a hand written note through the camera as it stands, why not at the very least allow the scanner to select a photo to use as the scan (then a user can have output a document from another handwriting app as an image) or more conveniently, why not allow OCR scanning (for handwriting) of any imported PDF?
It would be the final link to complete migration to Goodnotes without the need to even "keep" any other apps on my iPad!
I only hang on to those apps because they have left overs in them!
Thanks.

I'd get an ipad just to use good notes if it had this feature. Otherwise there's a barrier between new notes and my previously handwritten notes when I make the transition to using this software.

I keep notes in a journal and would love to be able to take a screenshot of the page and put it into GoodNotes and have it be searchable. As good as GoodNotes is, a pad of paper and pen is hard to beat. But combine the two together and you have a winning combination. To be able to search my journal? Never going to happen. That involves flipping and scanning pages. But to search GoodNotes after I took a photo of the journal page? That's genius.
