Smaller file sizes
Good day. While most of my eBooks fit 300-1000 pages in around 5-20 MB, writing 10 pages in GoodNotes gives me larger files than that. I just don’t get why that is, after all the aforementioned eBooks are so small with so many pages. Also, exporting edited eBooks as a flattened PDF to reduce file size completely removes all outlines. I would really appreciate fixes to these problems. Otherwise I really enjoy your app, thanks!!
1 voteThe indexed handwriting and text is increasing the file size in GoodNotes. Otherwise, the text would not be searchable in the app or when you export it as PDF. You can disable it in Menu > Settings > Search Indexing.
We’re continuously trying to optimize it to reduce the file size. If there are documents that are way too large in your opinion, please share one of them with us by reporting a problem to our support team: https://support.goodnotes.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Could you please add support for "ü,ö,ä) in German?
Any time i want to import a file which holds ä,ü,ö it get's scrambled in the title name. can you somehow repair this?
2 votes“Umlaute” are supported but it seems like there is a bug.
If it happens in the latest version 5.5.8, please export the diagnostic data from GoodNotes > Menu > About and send them to support@goodnotes.com for investigation. -
See search result document’s location
It would be nice to be able to see the location of the document found in the “search” results. Now, we see the search result document, but cannot know it’s exact folder location.
1 voteTo see a document’s location, tap on the document title once you opened it. This will show you a folder path so that you can see where it is located.

Flashcards missing because of termination
If you accidentally click next to the flashcards, the window closes and says the query is finished. The next times only the flashcards are queried until the termination. It would be nice if this could be changed in the next update because it is a hindrance to learning. The function and GoodNotes itself is really great, thanks!
1 voteThanks for the report. We will release an update in the next few days that should address this issue. if not, please report a problem directly to our customer support team: https://support.goodnotes.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Enhanced Shape Tool
I wish the shape tool on GoodNotes 5 didn’t require you to press a button to draw a shape. It would be more intuitive if I could roughly draw a shape and hold down the pencil for a second and have the app automatically fix the shape. I also wish that the app would let you draw perfect arcs.
12 votesWe’re happy to announce that the update 5.6.0 that we released today adds an improved shape recognition including the option to hold at the end of a line to make a perfect shape, shape selection, and curve drawing.

Set where new line begins in own template
When importing your own template and press enter or are at the end of a page the zoom box jumps the whole zoom box length instead of going to the next line. So being to able to set where different lines are when importing a new template would be very helpful so the workflow can be as good as with the good notes original templates.
2 votesHere’s how you can adjust the zoom window return height for custom templates: https://support.goodnotes.com/hc/en-us/articles/201565249-Adjusting-Zoom-window-return-height-for-a-template

If you’re writing with a hand position that comes from the top so it accidentally touches the navigation bar, we recommend moving bar position to the bottom. You can do that in GoodNotes > Menu > Settings > Document editing.

Screen Keyboard doesn‘t work
Since the last update the screen keyboard doesn‘t work correctly. I just see a part of it. In other apps the keyboard works correctly.
1 voteThis is most likely a bug with the system that is triggered by GoodNotes somehow. Please try quitting the app in the background and try restarting your device. If it still happens, please let us know the exact steps to reproduce the problem and send them to support@goodnotes.com.

Chinese Text Recognition and conversion
- Improve Chinese text recognition. Chinese handwriting to text conversion should not be limited to traditional Chinese but allow for simplified Chinese. Simplified Chinese is more commonly used than traditional Chinese.
1 voteGoodNotes supports traditional and simplified Chinese. You can set the language for the entire document when you create it or in the search field after typing in some characters.
You can also set the language for recognition after you select something and converted it by tapping on the language button in the bottom right corner.

Flashcard order according to learning level
Ask the flashcards after the level: hard, good, easy. So that cards that you don’t know so well are asked at shorter time intervals than cards which you already know well. This also implies a random order of the flashcards, which would be great.
1 voteFlashcards in GoodNotes are using an algorithm that shows you cards more frequently, the harder you find them to answer.
We are planning to add randomization in one of the next updates. -
Insert customed size page
Please let us know if we can insert a new page in customed size. For example : 30 (H) x 150 (W) mm
1 voteYou can add any page size to GoodNotes you want. PDFs or Images can also be added as custom templates to your template library: https://support.goodnotes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000115295-Adding-custom-templates-to-the-template-library

Online goodnotes so we can connect from windows pcs.
I have apple products but I have a windows desktop. I would love to be able to view my notes on my desktop when I'm far away from my tablet. Would it be viable to have a way to view notes from a non-mac device? Thanks!
1 voteYou can use this workaround to see your documents on a Windows PC: https://medium.goodnotes.com/how-to-view-your-goodnotes-documents-on-a-windows-or-android-device-d81f4c468330

Add to home screen
Add a notebook to home screen like safari does with web pages (I don’t know if Apple let you do that)
1 voteYou can do this by using the Shortcuts app. Open a notebook in GoodNotes, then open the Shortcuts app and search for GoodNotes. It will show you a list of shortcuts to recently opened notebooks. You can create a shortcut to that notebook and add it to the iPad homescreen. For more information, please have a look here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209055

Record Teaching Video that hides tool bar but WITHOUT using any screen sharing like airplay
I would like to record a teaching video and annotate the good notes document on the iPad without using the presentation function. That means: when I am screen recording using goodnotes, the tool bar is visible to me but it could not be seen in the recorded video.
According to this article (https://support.goodnotes.com/hc/en-us/articles/208876886--GoodNotes-4-How-to-record-a-video-lecture-), it should be on the roadmap, but how come it still not launch?
It would be a great improvement in the functionality and practicality of GoodNotes! Please do consider this!
2 votesThanks for sharing your feedback. The article you referenced included outdated information that we haven’t updated. To accomplish what you want, you can simply crop the video in the Photos app of your iPad to remove the toolbar. This was introduced in iPadOS 13.
Alternatively, you can also use this workaround: https://medium.goodnotes.com/online-teaching-with-the-ipad-and-goodnotes-d0909a75e530

Presentation Mode where Audience sees 2 pages while presenter sees 1
When being used as a whiteboard for lectures, it is difficult for a student to copy down everything before the lecturer moves on. It would be awesome if the lecturer could write on one page while the previous page is still displayed.
This way, the presenter can zoom in on the current page to write comfortably, but multiple pages can be seen. It would be like having two whiteboards in a room so that students or meeting attendees can keep up without the presenter having to partition the current page by lines and awkward zooming
1 voteThis can be achieved by opening the same GoodNotes document in two windows side by side and presenting from one. While the audience can focus on the previous page, you can freely navigate around in the other window. You can set which window to present from in the sharing menu.

A feature to clear page contents of that specific day only.
I personally and many people like to revise their notes by writing over it again or marking over it, then and now so that I am not sitting and just revising notes. This markmaking over notes while revising helps me engage with notes.
So, if I can clear page contents of that day only all my unnecessary marking would be gone in one shot instead of erasing the marks manually1 voteYou can find “Clear Page” in the eraser options or in the … menu.

GoodNotes 5: Dropbox and GoogleDrive auto pdf backup
Please reintroduce the GoodNotes 4 ability to upload the pdf version of the file in google drive and dropbox in the new 5 version. It is very useful for sharing notes with other people and to open it on the pc. In particular now without an app for the mac for GoodNotes 5.
243 votesAutomatic backup is now available in GoodNotes 5.4. You can update to the latest version on the App Store. Instructions, information, and answers to frequently asked questions about auto-backup can be found here: https://support.goodnotes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001282956

Undo Closed Tab / Recently Opened shortcut
There have been many times where I have multiple tabs open and I accidentally close a notebook - then I have to go back to find it in my folders/subfolders.
A feature that allows us to see "recently opened notebooks" would be useful.
1 voteYou can find and access an overview of your “recently opened documents” in the search tab
