[Lasso] Allow creating multiple text boxes without switching to the lasso
Stop having lasso be the default tool. I cannot even remove it from the toolbar. It is frustrating that everything always goes back to lasso. I can’t even do multiple text boxes one after the other because once you type in a text box once and click off it goes straight to lasso instead of having text toggled on like it used to
542 votesHello! Thanks so much for your feedback and for sharing your ideas with us.
We’re excited to let you know that we’ve updated the Text tool and introduced a new dedicated floating menu for text boxes, including more customization options.
One of the new tools is Pin Text Tool — when enabled, it keeps the Text tool active so you can create multiple text boxes continuously without having to reselect it each time.
This is especially helpful when you're focused on adding or adjusting text in your notes. The pin will automatically turn off once you switch to another tool.
Feel free to try it out and let us know how it works for you!
This improvement is available in the latest Apple update.

[Toolbar] Support Customization
Bring back the option to customise the toolbar. I see a recent update has partially returned this feature (allowing to customise the main toolbar options), but this needs to carry over to each toolbar options (pen, pencil, highlighter, etc). Allow reorganising the squeeze pop up menu. This is meant to help streamline productivity, but now having my most used tools all over the place, I’m wasting time scrolling to find them.

Changing Default Font TextBox
After the latest update, I can’t find a way to set a default font and size for the textbox, unlike before when you can just click the icon and store the current font and size as default. Right now, every time you add a textbox, you have to start typing from blue, size 10, Modern font and change it manually.
105 votesHello! The option to set the default style for text boxes is already available.
You can do it in two ways:
- From the text box object menu (tap the three dots → Save as Default).
- From the Text Tool floating menu (tap the T with a heart icon). This icon becomes active whenever your current settings differ from the default.
You can save any settings as default: color, size, font, text style, alignment, line height, and text box style.
Let us know if it works for you!

[Shapes] Improve Rotation
Why can't I rotate shapes? This is a very basic function of all note taking apps.
Why can't I make shapes smaller than an arbitrary vertical size threshold? You can make shapes as skinny as you want, but you cannot make them shorter than some random limit the team(?) decided was an appropriate size.
Not being able to make small shapes and/or rotate shapes at all severely limits my ability to take notes and make diagrams in classes like biochemistry and biology (which is probably a significant portion of your users, btw!).
This existed in 6... why would you remove…
92 votesThanks for your feedback!
Shape rotation has been fixed and available in today’s release. With the new v7.0.8 update, shapes created by drawing and holding with the pen tool can now be rotated.
Update your app to try it out!

[Outline] Custom order
allow for custom outline order, current outline is in order outline is added (not in page order), allow to for choice of how to order outline titles (alphabetical, page #, date added, etc). also after closing app, view options for seeing/not seeing for example pdf outlines resets-- make choice semi-permanent or until you manually change and select or unselect an option again.
42 votesHello, thanks for sharing the idea!
Currently, there are 2 options for ordering sub-items in the outline: manual ordering and sorting by page number.
1) For custom ordering, simply drag and drop items to a new position between other items.
2) The option to sort the outline by page number just went live in the recent iOS release (version 7.0.22). To enable it, tap the top-left icon in the Outlines sidebar and select Sort by page number. Please note that switching to this option will remove any custom ordering.
You can read more details about outlines here.

Infinite Canvas
The biggest pro of digital note taking is the boundaries of traditional one and paper that it breaks.
Studies have shown that learning efficiency and understanding of a subject is increased by higher order learning and mind mapping. For these techniques, an infinite canvas is needed. It would be highly appreciated if this function would be added.
Thank you.

We're excited to share that with the September update, this feature is now available as Whiteboard, a new document type. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version to access it.

Zoom window
The latest update has the zoom window and the audio features hidden within a drop down. Since the spell check and other lasso features don’t work while the zoom window is active, it’s important to have easy access to toggle between a zoom window on/off.

Dashed Lines, Dashed Shapes, Dashed Arrows
Dashed lines
It would be so useful to add the dashed line tool for writing and geometric mode!
For mathematic, physics and scientific note it is essential having a tool like this!
Thanks317 votesHello, the option to create dashed lines, shapes, and arrows is already available in the app.
1) To create a dashed line:
Go to Writing Tools → Pen → Stroke Settings, then choose Dashed or Dotted. You can also adjust the pen thickness to control the density of the dashes. See the screen attached.
2) To create dashed shapes:
Go to Shapes → Stroke Settings in the floating menu. As in the first step, you can customize the style and density there.
You can also create a shape in the default style and then make it dashed. To do this, create a shape, open the Object Menu, select Stroke Settings, and customize the style. The same applies to shapes created with AutoShape.
3) To create a dashed arrow:
You can either select a dashed style directly in the Shapes menu, or create an arrow first and then customize its style…

Remove all the scam posts here
This is a great place to inform the GN developers of customer feature requests but it's currently infiltrated by scam ads and marketing that just clog the system. There must be a way to stop such parasitic behaviour.

Table of Contents
Hello GoodNotes Team,
I love using GoodNotes for my medical study workflow.
I would like to request a Table of Contents, Sub-contents navigation feature for PDFs.This would make navigating large textbooks much easier, especially for students and professionals working with multiple long medical PDFs.
Thank you for considering this feature and for continually improving the app!
1 voteHello,
The option to create navigation within files already exists—you can find it in the Outlines section of the sidebar.
Let us know if this is what you’re looking for!

outiline sort by page number defaultly
Please add an option to sort the Outline/Table of Contents by page number by default. Right now, outline items often appear in the order they were created or imported, which makes long documents hard to navigate. A default “Sort by page number” setting (ideally per-document, with a global default in Settings) would improve usability and reduce manual reordering. If users prefer custom order, they should still be able to switch back to manual sorting.
1 voteHello, thanks for sharing the idea!
The option to sort the outline by page number just went live in the recent iOS release (version 7.0.22).
To enable it, tap the top-left icon in the Outlines sidebar and select Sort by page number.
Please note that switching to this option will remove any custom ordering.

Hide tools from toolbox
l would like to make a recommendation: l would like to be able to choose which tools to keep in/ which to temporarily hide in from the toolbox at the top of my notes. For example I enjoy the tape, ruler and pencil, but don't use them enough so instead they get in the way
2 votesHello,
The toolbar customization option is already available, allowing you to hide and organize the tools as you like.

BRING BACK THE AUTOMATIC FULL-PAGE TEXT BOX
Ever since they have removed the automatic full-page text box, it has ruined note taking as a whole. It is such an inconvenience to use text boxes, as it is harder to manage and just overall too much to use. I would like to bring back the automatic full-page text boxes as it made note taking more convenient, efficient, and easier to manage.
1 voteHello,
Full-page typing is available for text boxes.
To enable full-page typing within a notebook, select the Text Tool > long-press on the page > choose Start Typing.
If you’d prefer a dedicated full-typing experience, you can also try Text Documents, a file type designed specifically for typing.

Allow family sharing again please
Since GoodNotes 6, family sharing via the Apple iOS app store is unfortunately no longer supported by GoodNotes.
This is really frustrating because it means that we can no longer use the app as a family. That's why I would like to suggest that the developers reconsider supporting family sharing in GoodNotes 6 as well.

Allow deleting outlines on shapes
With the new update my shapes have to be equipped with an outline. I preferred using the transparent filler colour as a decent highlight for my study notes, which I got by either erasing the outline with a stroke eraser or by pressing "back" once. Please bring back this feature or add the option of "no-outline" when creating a shape.
I'd also love to have my colour presets in the auto-shape menu. It isn't useful to me, when it doesn't align with the colour scheme I use.
1 voteHello,
If you’d like to remove the outline from shapes, you can adjust this in the Stroke settings by selecting the object. There are 4 available styles: None, Solid, Dashed, and Dotted. For your case, select None.
To set default colors and stroke settings for shapes, you can adjust these options in the floating menu of the Shapes tool.
Let us know if this works for you!

Outline improvement
Currently, the whole outline cannot be seen if it is too long. The whole title. should be seen in the outline tab.
Collapsible subtopics should also be added.
There should be a quicker way to input an outline like a shortcut.
There should be an option to see comments in the outline tab.
8 votesHello, thanks for the feedback!
We’ve recently added improvements to outlines, and these features are already live:
— Collapsible subtopics
Starting with version 7.0.22, you can create multi-level outlines with collapsible sections. Outline items can be nested by dragging them onto parent items, allowing you to collapse and expand sections to reduce clutter and navigate large documents more easily. This works for both handwritten notebooks and imported PDFs.
— Outline creation
There are several ways to create an outline:
- Import it with a PDF
- Generate it automatically using AI
- Create it manually
When creating outlines manually, there are multiple shortcuts to add a page to the outline:
- From Page settings (More menu icon in the top-right corner)
- From the Sidebar → Outlines (Add Page to Outline)
- From the Sidebar → Pages overview (Add Page to Outline)
For more details about Outlines please read here.
