Layer
Allow users to put comments on different layers. It would be helpful if these could be turned on/ off, or have their transparency % adjusted like in the Photoshop Touch application. Selecting annotations on one layer only or locking others would be useful as well.

I have seen many comments about the requests for layers, but none that mentioned exactly the things that I would like to see, so forgive me if this is a duplicate of pieces from a couple of individual ones that I may have missed the wording to:
Noteful added the ability to create specific layers on top of a PDF, and this is fantastic. I can write my specific notes on top of scanned in meeting minutes, program notes, notes about anything my kids are doing, I just scan a picture of the meeting agenda into a pdf, load it, and make a layer and capture my notes. If a friend needs a copy of the agenda, I can send that. If they need my notes, I can send that. If I want to send them a copy of the agenda AND my notes, I can send that. If I want to make snarky comments that are just for me, that I DON'T want to share with someone else, I can stick those on a different layer, and NOT share those, while still sharing the other layers. What would make this better would be the ability to NAME the layers. Like Layer 1: Background, Layer 2: Notes, Layer 3: Comments, Layer 4: Snark... so that I can turn on and off what I wanted easier when I went to export a document. I know that what we can currently do with sending things to the front and to the back is a good start, but it really only helps with making cute stickers and post-its... it really doesn't help in a larger layer application like this.
And it would be great to be able to add a LOT of layers, and give each of them a name. The ability to label each layer when exporting would make it easier to make sure we have exactly what is intended printed or shared.
Layers should be fully available for note sharing and collaboration, with the ability for the different parties to add separate layers to the document, add their own mark-ups, comments, additions, on TOP of the original document, It might be a great way to utilize an endless canvas for this type of purpose, if the margins needed to be expanded to capture additional notes that were outside the margin. But keeping those notes on a different labeled layer that can be reviewed by the author.
I really enjoy the program. I use several programs because no ONE program seems to have all the perfect pieces that I am looking for. Each misses pieces. Noteful doesn't have collaboration. Another doesn't record, Goodnotes doesn't have layers, etc. But that you take suggestions from your customers and try to help work out the kinks and add in new features says a LOT about your company, and I appreciate that.
Thanks.

As a med student that always write notes at the side i recommend paper margins which it can extend your pdf to write notes. Also layers for active recalling , its a great help and i discovered this in noteful app and its very very useful. Also the tags easy to navigate and well organized. I forgot, the suboutline also easy to navigate. I hope you guys add this features its very helpful for us students.

Please please give us locking layers. So many design your own planners. Would be amazing to be able to lock layouts and design on top.

I see myself using this function on a daily basis for my calendar. I'd love to be able to have separate calendars in different layers to see what I am doing each day and show or hide things not unlike one does in apple or google calendar. So far I just use different colors, but since I can't filter by color, things get very busy looking. It would also be cool to have drawings or a base diagram on a certain layer with text and be able to toggle and adjust them individually. Maybe start with just 2 layers toggleable / adjustable layers in addition to the base file and see how it goes?

in a lot of my notes I like to separate categories/ideas/sub topics in boxes. My notes are color-coded. Most of the time it is a struggle to make the boxes Around my fonts. I do a layered pen design with two separate colors. It would be amazing to have better pen presets that allow total customization.

Firstly, Thank you @Brooke for taking the time to gather and post all the threads of similar nature. I’m voting on them all!
The issue for me:
Text boxes (that have to be placed and then annotated) often shift while using gestures; which cause annotations, such as highlighted text, to be in the wrong places. Not only is it annoying but if it’s not caught straight away, can be problematic. Layers or the ability to lock items in place would solve this.I ought to mention that having a text box deselected from the lasso tool does not always work. If I tap on the text box alone, I can still move it.

My specific use case: Scripts for theater shows. It would be HUGE to be able to have the Sound department write their notes and cues on a layer, the lighting department write their notes and cues on another layer, the stage manager write their cues and notes on another layer - but then to be able to turn on and off each department's layer. Additionally, being able to have multiple layers visible, but have only one ACTIVE layer - ex. I would like to see the lighting department's layer while I am writing notes on my sound department layer, but not impact the other layers.... it would be Huuuuuuge. Thank you!

I am in the military and we use the app IOT draw maneuvers. Usually we need to overlay different types of layers to analyze and facilitate the Decision Making Process. This feature would be very helpful and it will make the process neat and simple. In an environment where time sensitive decisions can save lifes, this feature would be a perfect life saver.

This would be very useful - locking certain layers so you can write/draw over them and erase without messing up the locked layers would be great!

This would be AMAZING! Very much needed. Currently, I’m having to use other apps in my workflow. Layers would greatly improve the experience and reduce my reliance on other apps.

I purchased a notebook that already has hyperlinks, but there are permanent edits I want to do to a couple pages. Which was require the merge layer function like in procreate. I would just take the page and edit in procreate as I have the app but then I would have to add all the hyperlinks back into the page or through out the whole notebook. That is too time consuming. So I would be nice to merge layers I create down to the notebook page so it’s a permanent part of the page. Same thing would be helpful if you would to build a notebook from scratch in Goodnotes. Merge layers together or to the page itself is critical to me.

Yes please do this, very needed. Otherwise sticky notes are useless, because oYOU cannot move to see what is underneath. Why even use a sticker then

Often I find myself needing to copy/paste to change the position of an item so that it is layered properly.
Apparently, the options to “Sent to Front” and “Send to Back” have ben added, but I don’t see how to use them. This also doesn’t solve the problem fully.
We need to be able to move by a single layer as well. The additional options to “Move Forward” or “Move Back”, would completely resolve this and the number of other requests for the same thing.
Ideally, using the lasso tool to select any number of objects including handwriting, or long pressing on an image should give the additional options to edit Layer Position:
Send Back or Move Back
Send to Back or Move to Back
Send Forward or Move Forward
Send to Front or Move to Front. -

Sometimes it would be nice to replace things in a certain layer (for example a layer that you can name, extra explanation), so that other things in other layers don't move with it
