Layer
Allow users to put comments on different layers. It would be helpful if these could be turned on/ off, or have their transparency % adjusted like in the Photoshop Touch application. Selecting annotations on one layer only or locking others would be useful as well.

I've just seen that this idea was initially shared in April of 2013? That's mad! Almost every single competitor has this feature and it's not even a remarkable feature to have any more, at this point it's just a useful one. Honestly, beyond all the other featuresālike adding new colours to the folders, which has recently been changed to 'Coming Soon'āthis one and the lack of a "Go Back" button when using hyperlinks are two of the missing features I have most trouble understanding in Goodnotes.

I wonder why GoodNotes is still wondering about adding this feature. Is it strategy or lack of ability or ...?

If you did this, along with the ability to lock things, you would get me back as a customer. For now, I have moved to one of your competitors that offers both features and the ability to index bookmarks.

Draw on different LAYERS!
Hi I really would like to be able to do a sketch on a FIRST LAYER, then do a sketch on TOP on a SECOND layer..so that later I can still CHANGE the 1st layer underneath ( move, erase, change color, change size, copy etc..) WITHOUT affecting the LAYER ON TOP!!
That would be a TOTAL GAME CHANGER!!
Thanks!! -

The PDF format supports layers, but noteful flattens everything in its PDF exports. It would be great to have layers in GoodNotes, but also to be able to export them to pdf.

This feature would save critical time when I markup a set of plans. There could be a layer for electrical, plumbing, etc

Cāmon every one of your direct competitors has offered this feature for years. Itās time to make it happen. Stop rearranging buttons and calling it an upgrade. This isnāt about appearance; itās about functionality.

I like having my highlighter behind my writing as itās easier to read. It would be helpful to have a toggle option for the highlighter to automatically go behind text after it is drawn. Itās a bit of a hassle to keep selecting just the highlighter stroke and go through the settings to manually send it to the back.

You are about to lose a customer, and I have already been advising all my colleagues not to use Goodnotes due to its lack of locking items and fake "layers". We use all of these, and you seem unwilling to listen. I am trying out your competitors, which offer these features, and are listening to their customers and have been l needs and desires for a great tablet app.

Refer to the "Layer" function in "Free Notes" ("Free Notes" is in the AppStore)

If you did this layer and locking feature, I will not leave for the competition. This would keep me. I have been asking for this for 4 years!

I have switched to Noteful as well, mainly because Goodnotes lacks this feature but also because it lacks the ability to change transparency of items in different layers so that I can achieve a nice layering effect on my journal and planner pages.

Being able to see what layer is where like in procreate or canva, and then move accordingly to where you want, and also being able to just lasso highlighter, just like there's a feature to just erase highlighter

I often revise my notes while adding temporary annotations or brainstorming ideas. It would be extremely helpful if there were a ānote layerā feature, allowing users to write on a separate layer during review sessions. This way, such drafts or additional notes could be easily managed or deleted without affecting the original content.

i would make the layers applicable to anything, so it's not just comments. so if you are working on a sketch you can have line work on one layer, colored pencil or marker on another layer. that way you can erase and edit one part without messing up the other.
