Calligraphy mode for headers
(This is not about adding a calligraphy pen itself.)
I suggest adding a calligraphy mode, that similar to the app Over lets you type something and convert it to a nice style.
This makes it possible to create good-looking headers easily without having to be a pro.4 votes -

Paper size that matches iPad screen size
Please provide a paper size that exactly matches the viewing area assuming that the toolbar is not hidden.
As it is, we always have to waste some screen real estate on margins (why?) and deal with zooming (why?). My notes will never be printed, so I don't need them to be on "A4 paper", I need them to be sized to my screen, which is where they live.

Automatic Backups to Files.app location
Right now, Automatic Backups requires connecting to a Cloud Storage provider, of which only 3 are supported, and iCloud is not even one of them. However, "Backup Now" supports saving backups to an Files.app location, which supports any cloud service that is integrated with Files.app.
What I would like to see is Automatic Backup have support for closing a location in Files.app (either local on device, or cloud service provider).

Design custom template function
It would be great to have the option to design a template that has the same dimensions as the default ones. So that if you import a paper or cover design you can...
- put it against the original dimensions
- mark it up
- rotate the orientation
- add basic paper types (grids, lines, dots)... Better if you could choose the colour and spacing!
- change background colour
This would be absolutely amazing, making it easy and quick to create simple to complex templates specific to their needs and preferences.
There are images and paper templates I’ve imported but it’s frustrating to have it…

Being Able to Edit a Square with Filled in Colour
It would be nice to be able to edit the text inside a square that the colour has been filled in. What happens now is if you edit the text it removed the filled-in colour and you can't refill in the colour.

Button to quickly toggle templates on & off
I use templates (normally graph paper or ruled pages) when I am writing & drawing — but don't want them when I am reading. I would dearly love to have a button so that with a single gesture I can toggle my page background between the currently-chosen template and "blank".
I can imagine two ways to do this. Either have the button control a journal-wide setting (so I can go into "reading mode" and get rid of all templates temporarily), or have the setting be preserved (so that after I complete a page I can hide the template with a single…

Circle to select text / pages all the way up / erasing text with back and forth scratches
3 features I would to see in future updates are:
1. Simply select handwritten text by simple doing a drawing a circle around it with the pencil instead of having to go all the way to the circle icon.
2. Erase text by simple scratching it back and forth
3. In order to have our palm staying all the time on the screen the page should be movable all the way up. This would help when you arrive at the bottom of a page (without use of the magnifier) to keep your palm on the iPad and not having on…4 votes -
Left-Handed User Interface Adjustments — "Return" and "Tab" Buttons in Zoom Window
The "Enter" and "Tab" buttons in the zoom window are the most important controls. As such, they are placed on the right side of the zoom window, in order to make them readily-accessible for right-handed writers. However, for left-handed users such as myself, the infrequently-used "indent" buttons are more prominently located.
Since you know the handedness of users via the "Writing Posture" setting, perhaps that setting would automatically swap the positions of these buttons in the zoom window. Thank you.

Detailed Margin Adjustments similar to Goodnotes 4
I would like to see the a detailed adjustment setting for the margins in the zoom window similar to Goodnotes 4. It would also help if the margin adjustments are persistent across documents or templates. Having to reset it every time the file is opened is frustrating.

More highlighter colors displayed
A lot of users of Goodnotes are students in which they use this for studying and reviewing. I suggest that instead of 3 colors of highlighters being readily showed, how about increase them to 5. So that we don’t have to change it from time to time. And sorry but a lot of people uses at least 5 highlighter colors when studying

A lasso select auto copy like the image tool (+)
The image tool has a long drag copy built in, I wish the lasso had that as well, I draw a lot of graphs and using the iOS Paste shortcut is hard, having the lasso work the same way as the image would be perfect

Darkmode pdfs like google play books
To prolong battery life and make reading easier, make the pdf’s darkmode like in google play books app. Most students who use GoodNotes study textbooks for hours on end while using the iPads battery and while the screen literally turns into a cooking element. Darkmode would enhance studytimes and literally more than double the usable hours on battery.

Text
Create bullet points and allow text to be created under a drawing to make it easier to go between the two.
With the text box, if you create a drawing, like most students do for STEM classes, the text will just be in the same box over the drawing. Or you have to start a new box which ruins the structure of your text.

Mac OS High Sierra
I like a lot the Mac app on the Catalina, but I have an older Mac that runs on High Sierra, and it can't install the app, just like me, I think more people could use the app if it's were made available for older Macs, since is something that you keep for 10 years easily.
