It would be great if these "Favorite pens" could (based on user's preference) completely replace the current thickness & color toolbar.
For exactly the reasons mentioned in the description of this feature request - often I use few color & stroke combinations repeatedly (I tend to assign meaning to them). Using the current toolbar is then very cumbersome, and I'm often "tempted " to go back to using paper, where I have many different pens at my hand reach.
Perhaps the selection of favorite pens could also be saved per document. I tend to use different sets of pens in different docs.
