We’re thrilled to say that we hear you—one of our most-requested features, Layers, is on its way!
Layers is gradually rolling out to Goodnotes Pro users on iPad and Mac. This early version supports up to 5 layers in notebooks. Please note that it isn’t available during a Pro trial.
Layers is currently experimental, so your feedback is especially important. Please share your experience to help us understand how—and whether—we should develop the feature further.

To me this is THE feature that is missing. It is common to use a limited set of Pen settings in a doc. It is usually a hand full.
I am using around 5-6 settings per document, mixing pen type, line width and color.
I would indeed LOVE to be able to manage those presets and be able to add those as easy to reach shortcuts.
Each change is otherwise painful as you need to change:
- pen type
- line width
- color
write a few words, and switch back again.
The color can be fixed after the fact but not the rest and it kills the experience having to do that.
As a first step, I would be fine being able to use the "last used" presets, automatically detected.
