updates suck
I'm really angry about the new update. It sucks beyond words! Have you really considered customers feelings and suggestions? Even can't see any effort you guys put into. What are you doing all the day, just eating your heads off? Updating a new UI providing nothing useful and even becoming more inconvenient, never taking customers useful requests seriously and never trying to realize good suggestions efficiently...oh what great jobs you did! Good for you!

Lasso Tool Update- Inconvenient Options Bar
The recent update for the lasso tool has the options bar coming up immediately when selecting something. This is extremely inconvenient when trying to quickly reorganize a page and go back to writing, as it blocks nearby text on the page and often can result in accidentally tapping the delete icon. Previously, double-tapping writing selected by the lasso tool would bring this bar up, which still presented convenient options for alteration, but made moving small things around quickly more convenient because the view of the page was not obstructed by the options bar every time.

STOP AUTO-LASSO!!
The new auto-switch to the lasso tool is beyond frustrating. If I want the lasso tool I will select it, and until then keep the tool that I am using.

Option to Revert to Old Toolbar UI/Behaviors
The latest update sacrifices the utility of the old toolbar in favor of a "minimal" interface, which results in an unwieldy experience. A lot of key features are missing or modified to be much less user-friendly.
Some examples which others have voiced:
* Bookmark option missing. Now I would have to open up the sidebar or three-dot menu to bookmark, which is a hassle that did not exist before.
* Customization option of current tool. It was good before when it was contained within the one bar, such as the pen. It was nice to choose between the different tools…11 votes -
PLEASE Stop Having Lasso Be the Default
With the new update, the lasso is the default pen setting. When you open a notebook or when you go from erase with a surface pen, it automatically goes back to lasso. This completely defeats the purpose of being able to use the back of your pen for erasing (which doesn't autosnap back to anything as of late). Lasso is by far not the most popular tool. Why is it default?

with the new update, the text box tool has a LOT of problems. every time i finish writing, it switches to the lasso instead of letting me start a new text box. the boxes also don’t extend to the end of the page every time, which makes it very hard to add another box beneath it. if we can’t revert back to the previous version, the bar needs to be customizable to stop these issues

Toolbar
I opened the app today and suddenly the eholr app changed. I mean, the whiteboard and the new shapes (especially the arrows) are such a good idea but the new toolbar is really uncomfortable to work with… especially the text options and the font changing is really annoying. please bring the previos toolbar back!!! Or at least give an option to decide if we want the old or new designs

Add Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian)
I am learning Swedish and I love Goodnotes and it would be nice to add those languages to the app so we can practice and can correct our mistakes. It would be a huge improvement to add them to the flashcards too so the people who are learning a new language can make use of that feature. It is weird that in 2025 you are limiting your app to only ~10 languages.

Native Samsung S Pen Eraser support
Other Android apps allow use of the physical eraser button of the stylus, but this does not work so far with S-Pen on Galaxy Tab. Selection eraser from the software menu is not very convenient and subpar to other notes apps.

Reenable Toolbar Customization
The new update has removed a lot of customizable options for the toolbar. The relocation of some easy accessible features and inability to remove others lessens the user experience.
Ex: I am an active student learning another language for fun who personally does not use “tape” or “pencil”, however I am constantly toggling the “zoom window”. The inability to reorganize/customize which “writing tools” appear, in which order, and the additional steps to simply toggle the “zoom window” has worsened my experience using the application.

Bring back previous text box behaviour
Since the latest GoodNotes 6 update, the text box tool has become a bit annoying to use. Before, I could select the text box tool once and keep adding multiple text boxes without having to click it again each time. Now, after I add one text box, the tool automatically deselects, and I have to tap the text box icon again to make a new one. It makes writing notes much slower and less convenient. I’d really prefer if the old behaviour came back or if there was an option to keep the text box tool active.

Bring Back old normal text function!
This update is ridiculous!!! Can’t even start typing unless you go to the textbox function and hold it down and click start typing… absolutely ridiculous and inconvenient. The old toolbar was MUCH better. Bring it back… a lot of people are unhappy

Change Nav Color (or Hide)
I’d love to see the nav bar color changed to a more neutral, less distracting color.
You could probably consider this a purist request, but I’ve always found the navy blue navbar to be unappealing and distracting.
I’m not too interested in offering exact solutions, because I trust that good developers will make good decisions regarding UI and implementation.
But if I thought about it for a moment, potential solutions could be:
● Navbar colors that match the journal cover
● Simple user preference w/ preset colors and a custom color swatch option

An AI Feature that can convert your typed text into your handwritten Notes in your own handwriting style, if you paste the typed text in Goodnotes and press the new button to convert it into handwriting (like in the picture), so it can seamlessly adapt to your other handwritten notes.

Toolbar
Please bring back the old toolbar!! It is so much harder to take notes if you turn your handwriting into typing. Defaulting to the lasso tool is very inconvenient and slows down the note taking process by a lot!!! Also moving the text boxes is not easy and it was.

Other languages POLISH
It would be great if more languages would be available. I’m bilingual with English and polish and not having polish is a bit disappointing. Also it would bring much more clients from other countries with their own languages

I prefer the older version
Hello,
I wanted to share some feedback about the latest Goodnotes update. I personally preferred the previous version — it felt more intuitive and comfortable to use. The new layout and changes don’t suit my workflow as well, and I really miss the simplicity of the older version.
I hope you might consider offering an option to revert to the previous design or bring back some of its features in future updates.

Change the toolbar “categories”
Why do you have to press more buttons to get to the tool you want?? Not only is there less customization, but if I want to switch because the lasso/text/etc tool and the highlighter, for example, I have to press the handwriting tool and then the tool that I want. Before the update you could customize the toolbar and just hide the ones you don’t want, now there’s tool categories that you can’t modify and have to work harder to switch tools!
I agree with what everyone is saying about the toolbar update, and it sucks because I do thinks…

Bring back any customizability in the toolbar
After the new update, the toolbar is:
1: Intrusive - floats in the middle of your page.
2: Convoluted - many more key presses required to access basic tools with many of them missing from the toolbar with no ability to add them / no idea where they went (zoom window).
3: Non-customizable????????? Why can't I customize the toolbar? I never use the pencil. I never use tape. Why is the lasso not with the writing tools? At LEAST give me the option to change the order of tools not only on the tool bar, but on the tool palette…
