Optimize PDF Size to Export
Optimize PDF Export Size, notes with three photos have more than 10 MB in one page! Now we use other Apps to optimize the exported PDF, it would be great to control this in Goodnotes

This would be great. My 3 page PDF was about 10mb (one <1mb image included). This won’t be feasible when exporting notes to PDF in order to share them via email.

Absolutely, my GoodNotes file typically has min 1 page per day in each calendar year, with plenty of images, that makes file fuge for sync and mostly I need only low resolution

I'd also love to export PDFs from Goodnotes that are reasonable file sizes. Would it be possible to rasterize annotations or otherwise downsample the larger parts of the file?

yes, I am agree with this.
yes it nice to writing on goodnotes 5 with auto advance compare to noatbility, I prefer goodnotes's auto advance.but after I writing about 16 pages, the file size is about 150MB.
it is really crazy.
I scan my 300 pages book only take 35-75MB.but 16 pages = 150mb???
are you serious??

I had a 14 mb pdf which became 84 mb after exportation! Insane!

The interesting thing is the size won't change too much if it is exported as GoodNotes Document. However... MEH

When I import about 5 photos, the PDF backup file becomes more than 40MB in size.
I would like to have the ability to resize and compress images.

The reason why the PDF files are so big is because the writing is drawn by a series of plain circles of different sizes that are linked together (image 1 in attached file). That's a nice trick for a nice handwriting fidelity, getting different kinds of pen and for the eraser to work like intended.
In order to reduce the PDF, Goodnotes would have to :
- identify every single character or drawn forms. (I don't think that a trivial routine to code...)
- merge circles that form that particular shape (image 2 in attached file) and everyone who worked in a vector based program like Illustrator or Affinity Designer would know that there are cases where merging doesn't work like we want...
- simplify the path by removing the while still being faithful to the path (image 3 in attached file). All that in an automatic exporting routing. When simplifying path in an app that can do the job, the artist has control over the procedure. So making a flawless simplifying curve routine would be a very difficult beast to tacle :)
But I still have voted for this suggestion :D

It would be hugely helpful to be able to export pdf files of smaller size for collaboration with colleagues and students. The standard annotated file is simply too big for long term data storage and file management. The lack of this feature is potentially a significant negative for those involved in education.

Notes in Goodnotes consume too much storage (as compared to other note-taking apps). Maybe you can use a better compression technique for storing notes.

I have imported a 1000+ Pages pdf reading with a size of 50 MB. After making some annotations an highlights on 10 pages of the file, the file size grows to 500 MB. This is not a sustainable way for long-term file management.
Appreciate it if the team can address this hugely important issue at the earliest possible convenience.

I agree to this idea. As soon as my files have some pages, their pdf exports grow to more than 10 mb, which makes it hard to share them via mail, which is essentially sometimes, since many university students use goodnotes, to accomplish tasks, they have to hand in!

My GoodNotes files of 20 pages or so usually generate a PDF file of 20Mb in size. This is far too large! Using Acrobat Pro's "optimize scanned PDF" feature, this reduces to 1Mb or less. GoodNotes should allow some kind of "quality" option for PDF export that permits lower-resolution output when desired.

I also agree there should be an option to downsize the export PDF. I use this function to share notes with collages which don't use GoodNotes and if we have a longer meeting I'm not able to send all in one file due to size. That's annoying.

At this moment, the higher resolution image will be compress to lower size after crop image. This compression mage some images looks like blur due to high resolution screen. Please consider other compression method / stop compression after crop option.

Even small documents (4-5 pages) seem to result in 6+ MB-sized documents. I think the fill colour option of the shape tool might be the culprit.

The only thing i miss in goodnotes is the possibility to reduce the file size.
I had allready notes with 200 MB and more. Now I export the pdf and use the app "PDFOptim" to reduce file size. It works perfect!
Please implement this function in Goodnotes!!! -

I use goodnotes for documentation on the building site and I often add pictures to my notes. I would like to send the notes per Email, but it´s impossible because the files often have 100 MB or more!!! After converting, e.g. with PDF expert, they just have a size < 5MB!!
Please finde a solution to make this with goodnotes! -
