  1. Feature Request: Shared Folder Collaboration with Real-Time Updates

    Dear GoodNotes Team,

I am a teacher who relies on GoodNotes daily for lesson planning, organizing resources, and collaborating with colleagues. While I truly appreciate the powerful tools GoodNotes offers for handwriting and annotation with the Apple Pencil, there is one feature that would greatly improve collaboration for educators:

The ability to share entire folders with colleagues so that multiple users can:

Add new documents to a shared folder.

Write on and annotate shared documents using the Apple Pencil.

View and access changes in real time, including edits, new notes, or added…

  2. I want to make the tabs pinnable, shrinking them into small icons in the corner. It prevents clutter but keeps them handy, since I use them too often to close or scroll for finding them every time.

  3. You can duplicate a file but you cant duplicate a folder. I create template folders and it would be useful to duplicate the master folder.

  5. Dear GoodNotes Team,

I am an academic researcher who relies heavily on GoodNotes for managing extensive libraries of notes, e-textbooks, and research data.

I would like to propose a specific workflow improvement that combines the best of OneNote’s navigation with GoodNotes’ tab system.

The Concept: I suggest adding a collapsible sidebar (File Tree) on the left while in editing mode. However, the interaction should work specifically as follows:

Sidebar Visibility: While editing a note (e.g., "Biochemistry"), I can toggle open a left sidebar that shows my entire folder/file structure (similar to OneNote).

Action: When I click on a different file…

  6. I truly appreciate the powerful note-taking experience that GoodNotes offers. However, I would love to see a Pin Notes feature and a Quick Access Folder option to enhance workflow efficiency.

Currently, navigating between different notes for ongoing study, work, or projects requires extra steps, which can be time-consuming. A pinned notes section would allow users to keep frequently used documents easily accessible.

  7. Many functions you have placed in submenus could easily fit into their respective window headers, toolbars etc. - thereby becoming more obvious and faster/easier to access.
    examples:

    1) The filter for bookmarked pages in the page browser is now the single item in a submenu. Unnecessary - there is easily enough room for 4 tabs - even when viewed as sidebar and in portrait orientation. img_0387

    2) Select pages and sidebar/popup toggle hide behind a 3 dots menu in the page browser. Why? There is enough room there to show these directly. Esp. if you implement the toggle as one…

  8. There are two view modes in Goodnotes:

    1. File navigation
    2. Documents tabs (the documents already open)

We can switch from 2 to 1.

But for some baffling reason there is no way to simply switch from 1 to 2. Instead there is only the contrived way of having to open any file in order to return to 2.

I do not know why Goodnote's UI/UX team has been thinking all these years that that be an okay solution. No other programme does this and it is counterintuitive.

Could you please add this? It's so easy to do. E.g. you could add…

  9. Goodnotes often opens unexpectedly on the Home Screen (at least after every update).
Please add a button to the Home Screen so that users can easily return directly to Tab View (i.e., the actual working environment).
It's really annoying to have to select an already open file every time just to get back to Tab View.

  10. GoodNotes feels very slow and outdated when it comes to the slow animation when clicking on folders. Instead of feeling snappy and responsive the long animation leaves me feeling sluggish.

The same goes for when I open the page view sidebar and the search sidebar. These slow opening animations are outdated and make GoodNotes feel unnecessary sluggish when compared to Notability’s snappy, simple animations.

  11. When I have a document open, the tab bar shows a tab for each open document. Also, the Home tab appears on the left in the tab bar. When I click on it, the tab bar with the open documents disappears. To get back to the open documents, I then have to open a document again.

It would be easier if in the Home view (a) the tab bar remained permanently at the top (so that the Home view is just another tab), or (b) there was a shortcut called “Open documents” on the left.

  12. it's really annoying to have to leave the pen to scroll with the mouse because the scrolling bar is invisible. WHY?! i want to scroll with the bar on the side without putting away the pen to grab the mouse and scroll with the wheel. yes the scroll bar reappears when i scroll, but it's useless because it disappears after 2 seconds and does not appear in any way other than wheel scrolling with the mouse. VERY ANNOYING! scrolling should be available in few ways (like Adobe Acrobat) but here for some reason you only can scroll with the wheel.…

  13. Have the ability to create simlinks to documents in other folders. Due to the number of folder I have, I occasionally want to have access to note in two separate folders. The only way to do this now is to make a copy which takes up double the space and doesn’t sync any hand written notes on the page.

  14. Swiping takes more time and effort for browsing through a document as compared to, e.g., tapping.

In many documents, I see an empty space to the left and right of the page. Couldn‘t this be used to allow tapping to effect immediate page browsing?

  15. The new document import screen, such as when importing from safari, automatically pulls up the keyboard. It’s really annoying when you don’t need the keyboard to find the right folder.

  16. The last update brought up the new window which comes up when importing a new pdf document or picture. In that windows you can select if you want to open the document in a new file or put it into an existing notebook. It would be great if you can add a setting possibility to preselect one of these options. I'm never using the possibility to import as a new document but with the new update I'm forced to make a few more clicks now which is annoying.

  17. To making changing between the different menus (i. e. between pen settings, eraser settings) easier and less of a reach, being able to swipe between tool menus to choose different settings would be convenient. For instance, assuming the menu is on the left of the screen and we’re currently on the eraser menu, swiping left from the menu to the edge of the screen (1A) would go to the pen menu(1B). Alternatively swiping right from the edge of the screen to the menu from the eraser settings (2A) would go to text menu (2B). I’ve attached screenshots with arrows for…

  18. Make the pop-up menu for font color, size, and format float. Whenever I want to adjust or edit a text, the menu box pops up and gets in my way of what I want to change. I flip my screen to try to get around it but the menu is still in the way. I can’t drag it to move it.

  19. Dear Goodnotes Team,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to share feedback regarding a recent change in the selection tool behavior in Goodnotes Web.

After the latest update, whenever we select elements on the canvas, several options such as Copy, Cut, Transform, Change Color, etc., automatically appear directly on top of the selected content. This makes the canvas look cluttered and makes it harder for both teachers and students to clearly view or reposition the selected items.

Earlier, the selection experience was much cleaner. When using the lasso selection tool, only the blue dots appeared around the…

  20. Proposal to Improve the Template Change Feature (+ Add “Replace Page” and “Replace File” Functions)

Currently, Goodnotes does not offer a feature that allows users to replace pages in the same way as a “Change PDF” function. While there is a template change feature, it is limited to Goodnotes’ built-in templates and note-style formats, and requires importing content into Goodnotes first.

In many cases, there are situations where a page needs to be replaced—for example, when a lecture material contains typos or when an updated version of the file is provided. Therefore, it would be highly useful to have a…
