Double-Page View / Split View / Side-by-side View
As a professional musician, GoodNotes is almost perfect for viewing and marking up sheet music both during rehearsals and performances! In my circle of friends and colleagues, GoodNotes is really becoming our go-to app! We unanimously agree that the only feature that is missing for viewing sheet music is the ability to view two pages at once (like an open book or in Mac's Preview "double-page viewing"). Is it possible that I'm just not seeing this feature?

We’re excited to announce that we have completed this feature. It is now available in the update GoodNotes 5.3 for iPadOS (13.1).
With the update, we added full support for iPadOS’ multiple windows. It lets you do much more than viewing two documents side by side. To read everything you need to know about opening multiple documents, please visit goodnotes.com/ipad-os.
How to open a new window:
You can now open GoodNotes in multiple windows to view two documents side by side, view two pages of the same document in Split View, or pair it with other apps in spaces across your entire system. To open a new window, drag any of the elements listed below to the side of your screen:
- the app icon from the dock
- documents from the library
- folders from the library
- individual pages from the document thumbnail view
- tabs from the tab-bar
You can also use the buttons in the library action menu or from the tab-bar to open a new window.

Just want to add my voice that the native iOS split-screen support isn’t a solution to this at all. That’s not what people were asking for. We need to be able to view more than one page at a time within the document itself, like a normal book, without having to navigate between two different instances.

Being able to have 2 pages of the same document side by side would help when trying to read/edit a larger document

Please add the 2 page view feature!! I have portrait notebooks that I would also like to use horizontally from time to time. I'd like to scroll 2 pages at a time. This is different from split view.

It would be nice to have different settings between the two screens of GoodNotes. I usually take notes on separate paper while reading a book. However, I'd like to use the *vertical* scroll option for reading and the *horizontal* scroll option for the paper I take notes on. While yes, I can read the pdf file vertically on a separate tab (not using GoodNotes), I do also annotate the book while taking notes. Therefore, it would be nice to have the two separated screens have different scroll directions.

I completely agree with the comments below, to open the document in multiple windows is not a solution. I have been using good notes for years, I love this app, but this missing feature is so annoying that I am starting to use "piascore" instead, just because I can view two pages and the document looks more like a real book. Please, please could you add this feature?
There is something else in "piascore" that I like very much: at the bottom of the document you can drag your finger over the line of the content of the book and the thumbnails of the pages are displayed. It is very useful to find the content visually without having to go to click - outline - click - exit. And you can see where you are at any time (beginning, middle, end) of the document. This helps when studying to know "how much is left".
Goodnotes is by far a better app, but please many people need this feature

As work around you could implement continuous horizontal scrolling.
Many textbooks have a double page layout where you often have diagrams, images or equations on one page and the corresponding text on the facing page.
True continuous horizontal scroll might not be as pretty as a real double page layout, but it would at least make the facing pages accessible in one view.
What you have now as horizontal scrolling is basically a single page view with page flip.
You could always keep that as 3. scrolling option (or even implement a page turn/curl effect for those of us who feel nostalgic about paper notebooks. ;) ) -

Unlike tablets, PC screens are large and horizontally long, so if you only display one page, there will be a lot of gaps on the screen.
Therefore, I would like to have a mode that allows me to display pages in two-page spreads and view multiple pages at once.

We can keep each page as its own individual file but make it so we can view our notebook/planner as a book. I would love to see that option so I can see two of my pages side by side like a physical book.

Hi. I study in a music University in Germany and I am constantly hearing from colleagues the same complaint. We would really like the book view in order to to have quick and easy acces to different parts in our scoresas well as to focus more on what is actualy on the paper rather than scrolling. This means adding the option to view 1-2, or 2-3 (see first odd/even numbered pages).
I am sure many colleagues around the world have the same issue, and so
It is a shame that such a good note taking app lacks of such an useful feature. -

I would agree, it's almost critical to have a 2 page view, would open up many more use cases. The comment from the moderator does not resolve the issue

Great Idea! I have used GN4 for a long time parallel to GN5 because in GN4 the slides created with beamer appeared just as the should.
With GN5 it is a real pain to look at the horizontal scrolling! -

Running 2 apps separately doesn't help much in using this app
What really helps with using this app is seeing two pages in one app, like reading a book.
All users want this feature, and other apps already support it. Even free apps
The GoodNotes app is a paid app. Please quickly update this function that users need in real life

Hi, I also created an account just to vote for the 2-page spread (not 2 separate windows with one page in each window).
I’m using a digital pdf 2023 diary this year in an effort to not have to physically print it and have another book to store that I have no space for, but I had to look for this feature that sadly doesn’t exist yet as I can’t see my calendar spread in its entirety.
This function exists in Adobe acrobat as 2 page view so I’m not certain why it’s so hard to imagine. Anyways hopefully they introduce it soon seeing as there are so many people who want it. At least in horizontal view! -

I would like this feature for using with choir music. Using GoodNotes allows me to mark up my music with the director's instructions while using it to sing from. You just need to be able to see two pages at once.

Thought I might as well add my comment as this feature still hasn’t been implemented.
Not only is this feature useful for sheet music or just viewing multiple pages at once/scrolling through a notebook or document with ease, it also makes the content you’re working on seem more like a real book.
At the moment I feel stuck with Goodnotes (or really any note-taking software) because I can rarely see much information whilst I’m trying to look through something. For example I’m hesitant to compile a digital cookbook rather than a physical one as it’s just more difficult to flip through and look at everything all at once.
I feel like this feature would be so simple to implement yet impactful and definitely different to multiple-window-viewing. Please Goodnotes, implement this feature.

In response to the “Try This” feel like the two windows would be clunky, versus just allowing it to be an option. Hope your suggestion comes to fruition, you’ve got my vote.
