Double-Page View / Split View / Side-by-side View
As a professional musician, GoodNotes is almost perfect for viewing and marking up sheet music both during rehearsals and performances! In my circle of friends and colleagues, GoodNotes is really becoming our go-to app! We unanimously agree that the only feature that is missing for viewing sheet music is the ability to view two pages at once (like an open book or in Mac's Preview "double-page viewing"). Is it possible that I'm just not seeing this feature?

Weāre excited to announce that we have completed this feature. It is now available in the update GoodNotes 5.3 for iPadOS (13.1).
With the update, we added full support for iPadOSā multiple windows. It lets you do much more than viewing two documents side by side. To read everything you need to know about opening multiple documents, please visit goodnotes.com/ipad-os.
How to open a new window:
You can now open GoodNotes in multiple windows to view two documents side by side, view two pages of the same document in Split View, or pair it with other apps in spaces across your entire system. To open a new window, drag any of the elements listed below to the side of your screen:
- the app icon from the dock
- documents from the library
- folders from the library
- individual pages from the document thumbnail view
- tabs from the tab-bar
You can also use the buttons in the library action menu or from the tab-bar to open a new window.

I would like to add to the chorus of comments requesting a double-page ābookā view for reading one single document, a feature that almost every other competitor document editor seems to have, even basic free ones that come included with both Apple and Windows environments. This is a very important feature for efficient usability, and it is boggling that after ten years (OP 2013) that this issue has not been accurately addressed. The moderatorās response in 2019 is clearly not what the OP is requesting. Perhaps this whole thread has been deprioritized because of an honest mistake in interpretation of the requested feature. I can only hope that the GoodNotes team will diligently and promptly pick it back up again. Otherwise, I must consider switching to a different application that can support this most basic reader view.

It's been 10 years, and this idea still hasn't been implemented. Using multiple windows to view different pages simultaneously is NOT what we are asking for. A BOOK view is what people want. To be able to view the next page side by side like you would in a book, ex: pages 1 and 2 would be side by side, 3 and 4 side by side, and so on. I don't know about the people at Goodnotes but I never opened up two of the same books to view two pages at once when they are already bound right next to each other. A multi-window 'solution' is not only tedious, it runs the risk of slowing down older computers or draining batteries.

Itās mostly relevant when reading a PDF textbook which has information and diagrams connected on both pages.
It is super annoying if you want to annotate it and you have to switch between two windows of the same app just to do that.
Thanks!

I created this good notes account just for the purpose of 2 page viewing. we need to be able to have both open on screen at the same time. Aallow us to be in one window-> one pdf->able to have 2 pages (ex. page 3 and 4, then swipe right to left and we see pages 5 and 6...) showing, in landscape view, at the exact same time, same like reading a book. It is very critical feature. It is NOT same as split screen feature. Example is shown in the picture

This would be awesome for Windows. I just found out about the beta, downloaded it and after sharing a document from my ipad saw a LOT of empty space on my screen.
So I came straight here to find out if someone had already suggested it and there are a few of them all spread on different posts. -

Option of BOOK READING. In it, the pages will be aligned as if they were in a original book, like 2 pages appear on screen simultaneously as if you are reading a book.

I wannna read two pages as spread. It's not about split view, some files are made as two pages spread and it is terrible to read such files in split view, scrolling both ends of iPad over and over again. So please consider this feature to be implemented.

Since on Mac version, the horizontal screen have a lot of blank when it display only one page. Please add a option to display double page on Mac Version.

Come on GoodNotes! This is a pretty basic request and is critical for using GoodNotes like planner. Weekly planners are generally used with 2 pages open. See attached photo.

Just want to add my voice that the native iOS split-screen support isnāt a solution to this at all. Thatās not what people were asking for. We need to be able to view more than one page at a time within the document itself, like a normal book, without having to navigate between two different instances.

Being able to have 2 pages of the same document side by side would help when trying to read/edit a larger document

Please add the 2 page view feature!! I have portrait notebooks that I would also like to use horizontally from time to time. I'd like to scroll 2 pages at a time. This is different from split view.

It would be nice to have different settings between the two screens of GoodNotes. I usually take notes on separate paper while reading a book. However, I'd like to use the *vertical* scroll option for reading and the *horizontal* scroll option for the paper I take notes on. While yes, I can read the pdf file vertically on a separate tab (not using GoodNotes), I do also annotate the book while taking notes. Therefore, it would be nice to have the two separated screens have different scroll directions.

The side-by-side function is good, but it occupies the other app screen for use. Would it be better to have same note but allows two page alignment like a book? So that we would not have to use other app screen, and we view 2 pdf PowerPoint pages at once using one screen.

I completely agree with the comments below, to open the document in multiple windows is not a solution. I have been using good notes for years, I love this app, but this missing feature is so annoying that I am starting to use "piascore" instead, just because I can view two pages and the document looks more like a real book. Please, please could you add this feature?
There is something else in "piascore" that I like very much: at the bottom of the document you can drag your finger over the line of the content of the book and the thumbnails of the pages are displayed. It is very useful to find the content visually without having to go to click - outline - click - exit. And you can see where you are at any time (beginning, middle, end) of the document. This helps when studying to know "how much is left".
Goodnotes is by far a better app, but please many people need this feature

As work around you could implement continuous horizontal scrolling.
Many textbooks have a double page layout where you often have diagrams, images or equations on one page and the corresponding text on the facing page.
True continuous horizontal scroll might not be as pretty as a real double page layout, but it would at least make the facing pages accessible in one view.
What you have now as horizontal scrolling is basically a single page view with page flip.
You could always keep that as 3. scrolling option (or even implement a page turn/curl effect for those of us who feel nostalgic about paper notebooks. ;) )
