Request to Add a Calculator Tool (Including a Scientific Calculator)

Currently, Goodnotes allows calculations to be performed using handwritten input. However, there are times when handwriting recognition is inaccurate, which can cause inconvenience.

To address this, I would like to request the addition of a built-in calculator tool that users can operate directly by touch, similar to a standalone calculator app. It would be especially helpful to include not only a basic calculator but also a scientific (engineering) calculator as part of the additional tools.

This feature would greatly improve efficiency and usability for users who frequently perform calculations while taking notes.

First of all, the ability to link documents, pdf’s, videos, and worksheets into documents, without them actually being in the document, so for example, you can have your math notes on the left, and your textbook on the right so you dont have to open a seperate window to look at your textbook, you can just upload it from your files, also being able to link videos in for science if there’s a video that has good ideas, also being able to make the files editable, so if i add in a worksheet i can just do that while looking at my notes. it would make goodnotes so much more useful. now if i want to use goodnotes and the calculator on my ipad i have to screen split and only have goodnotes in 3/4 of my screen!! so annoying

I’d love to suggest a feature that could make Goodnotes even more useful, especially for students and professionals:

1. Integrated Calculator

- A calculator that can be freely moved anywhere on the screen, so it’s always available right where you need it.

- It can be collapsed into a small icon and expanded again at any time, so it never gets in the way of note-taking.

- Beyond basic arithmetic, it would be very helpful if the calculator could handle functions such as x², √, fractions, and potentially even simple scientific functions (like sin, cos, log).

- This would make Goodnotes a strong companion for university classes, exams, and professional work where quick calculations are needed without switching apps.

2. Scratch Paper

- A movable, flexible scratch area for quick notes or side calculations.

- Ideal for jotting down temporary ideas, brainstorming, or making to-do lists without cluttering the main document.

- Notes could be written with both pen and keyboard.

- Items could be crossed out as tasks are completed—helpful during exams, problem-solving, or project work.

3. Lockable Text Boxes

- A lock feature that fixes a text box in place.

- The text can still be edited, but the box itself can no longer be accidentally moved.

Calculator for math problems or for money purposes

I want this feature in the goodnotes

Goodnotes can implement iOS 18's calculator AI into the app to calculate when the user types mathematical formulas, including advanced calculation formulas, something we can't do with iOS/iPadOS 18's calculator.

Add calculator because in iPad there is no official calculator app yet it will be very help full if we get inbuilt Calculator in app.

It would be amazing for math notes if a plotting option could be integrated. This way to plot functions you could do it on the app instead of having to paste a picture (which is harder to easily change)

Make a way for people to vote for the mod response as an appropriate solution.
For example, the person requesting a calculator in app. The mod pointed out you can swipe and split the screen with a calculator, and that’s a brilliant idea I didn’t think of. I
There’s no need for GoodNotes to develop and in app calculator, this would be a waste of the GoodNotes teams time and resources, and a waste of storage space on my iPad adding this feature to GoodNotes.
I want to be able to vote and say the mods response is so great that the feature suggestion is no longer needed, or resolved.

I would love to see more math tools in general, since I know many people who use GoodNotes for Maths and Pyhsics. It would be nice if this would made the app more accessible for those students, not only for the „typical Medicine student GoodNotes user“.
Besides all the math tools, a feature of an inbuilt calculator, which can calculate your hand written calculations would be fantastic!
The App „MyScript Calculator“ is a great example for this feature.
