[Highlighter] Automatically Set Highlighter to Back Layer
I noticed that the recent update allows highlighter and other objects to be manually selected and then “send to back”. I like that this feature allows for highlighter to be positioned behind text, but it would be useful if there was an option to have that automatically done or to have the highlighter tool set to automatically send highlighter to back layer once a line is drawn using it. Adding a toggle on the highlighter menu so users can select to automatically have highlighter “send to back” would be amazing.

Please do this! The highlighter is useless for dark mode.

When highlighting text written by any of the pens, the highlight should automatically go behind the text, especially on dark paper, this way it looks better and the text is more readable

This feature exists when writing on white/yellow paper, however, it does not work when using dark mode. I have to manually select the highlighted region and send it behind the pen, which is very tedious. I'd greatly appreciate an option where the highlighter will automatically be set behind pen marks.

Hello,
I would love it if when you’re highlighting if if the highlighter would automatically go under the pen after highlighting. Especially when you’re using different coloured pens since it changes the colour after using the highlighter.Edited by [sprunki phase 4](https://sprunkiphase4.io)

A simple toggle to let the highlighter be the first layer would be a super great feature, especially when using dark paper.

Highlighting with dark papers is currently bad. It goes over/on the text and it makes it harder to read.

why no one is seems to care about this? we need to vote!
the current Highlighter tool adds a layer on top of your writings and multiply the layer.
Quote Adobe "Multiplying any color with black produces black", it gives people a illusion of highlighter only goes under black handwritings. Unlike filters, those color did mixed. -

I have no idea how this isn’t voted up more but yes, it’s the missing feature that makes me most want to switch back to Notability!

Please add a feature that puts text on top of the highlight whenever text is highlighted. Currently, only black colored writing shows up on top of the highlight. With any other color, the highlight goes on top of the words, which means when I write new text, the color of the words look uneven. Thanks.

In my opinion it would be amazing if the highlighter aways automatically went under the pen, so it would work better with lighter pen colors and dark templates. The highlighter works good with black pen and it doesn't make it opaque or something, but I makes lighter pens murky. Maybe there could be an option in the highlighter settings to change wether the highlighter goes on top or bottom.

Instead of highlighter overlining text, program it to switch behind the text. Included is a photo with the above text featuring an overlined highlight, and the lower text featuring "behind" highlight. (In order to achieve "behind", need to first mark with highlighter then write over with pen). The current "overline" setting is frustrating because it compromises the color of the pen instead of accenting it.

On dark pages the highlighter is not going to the back on the handwritten text.

The highlighter goes over the text changing the color and overall visibility of the words that we write. Please make it go under the text so that doesn't happen

I want the highlighter function to have option to work like eraser—use once and then automatically ‘snap back’ to writing tool. I often am writing, then want to highlight one thing, and immediately go back to writing, and when I do that a lot, clicking back on writing tool becomes a pain.

If one's written a note a page and then later highlights over it, the app will pull the text to the top so that the highlighter doesn't dull the words.
This could be a boolean in the settings, allowing the user to choose whether she wants to use it.
