Better PDF tools for academic research
A side bar / the option to leave comments in the documents (just like in Word) so that you can quickly see the notes you took and don't have to scroll through the whole document searching each page to find them.
This would be even better if there was an option to export only the notes from the sidebar, and ideally also the highlighted passages of a text.
This would make GoodNotes much more competetive in relation to other pdf editing programs and much more useful for academic researchers
