Goodnotes AI – Get Answers Using External AI Provider APIs

Goodnotes currently has its own AI model, but I was wondering if it would be possible to also receive answers using AI APIs from external providers instead of being limited to the Goodnotes AI model.

I previously suggested something similar, but I found a better example that demonstrates what I mean.

• Goodnotes AI is included depending on the user's Goodnotes subscription plan.
• In addition to the Goodnotes model, users can also use models such as GPT, Gemini, Claude, and others.

Let users connect the AI services they already use

If a user already has access to an AI service, they could connect its API to Goodnotes and use that model to answer questions about their notes.

For example, users could connect services such as:

• OpenAI
• Google Gemini
• GitHub Copilot
• Grok
• Kimi / Moonshot AI
• DeepSeek
• Qwen
• MiniMax
• Meta
• Cloudflare AI Gateway
• Vercel AI Gateway
• OpenRouter
• OpenCode Go
• OpenCode Zen
• Z.ai
• Xiaomi MiMo
• LM Studio
• Ollama
• and other compatible AI providers

This could be implemented as an “External AI Provider” or “Custom AI API” option in Goodnotes AI settings.

Users could enter their API key or connect an existing provider, select the model they want to use, and then ask questions about their Goodnotes documents using that model.

This would be especially useful for users who already pay for or use specific AI services and would like to use those models directly inside Goodnotes rather than switching between different applications.

It would also give users much more flexibility while still allowing Goodnotes AI to remain available as the default option.
