[Toolbar Customization is live for Android, Windows and Web 🎉]

    Hello,

We're happy to let you know that Toolbar Customization is now live for Android, Windows and Web apps.

For iOS users, this feature has been available since the November 2025 release — and now we’re excited to bring the same flexibility to more platforms.

You can now customize your toolbar in Notebooks and Whiteboards by hiding or showing tools, and reordering them to match your workflow.

Access Toolbar Customization from the Accessories Overlay or from Document Settings (in Notebooks).

For more details, please check out this article: Customize the toolbar.

Feel free to share your feedback and let us know how the feature works for you!

  2. Stop having lasso be the default tool. I cannot even remove it from the toolbar. It is frustrating that everything always goes back to lasso. I can’t even do multiple text boxes one after the other because once you type in a text box once and click off it goes straight to lasso instead of having text toggled on like it used to

Hello! Thanks so much for your feedback and for sharing your ideas with us.

We’re excited to let you know that we’ve updated the Text tool and introduced a new dedicated floating menu for text boxes, including more customization options.

One of the new tools is Pin Text Tool — when enabled, it keeps the Text tool active so you can create multiple text boxes continuously without having to reselect it each time.

This is especially helpful when you're focused on adding or adjusting text in your notes. The pin will automatically turn off once you switch to another tool.

Feel free to try it out and let us know how it works for you!

This improvement is available in the latest Apple update.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback on the toolbar updates. Over time, we’ve addressed most of the points raised, and all the toolbar improvements we’ve shared and released are listed here.

Since this thread includes multiple ideas, some of which have already been addressed, it’s challenging to respond to each one individually or determine which topics need further attention. To keep the forum organized, we’ll be closing this topic for now.

If you have multiple ideas and would like them to be actionable, we recommend sharing them in separate threads (1 feature request = 1 thread). This helps other community members discover, discuss, and vote on ideas, and allows us to better understand which improvements are most important to you. We also recommend checking for similar existing ideas and adding your vote to strengthen them.

  5. After the latest update, I can’t find a way to set a default font and size for the textbox, unlike before when you can just click the icon and store the current font and size as default. Right now, every time you add a textbox, you have to start typing from blue, size 10, Modern font and change it manually.

Hello! The option to set the default style for text boxes is already available.

You can do it in two ways:

    1. From the text box object menu (tap the three dots → Save as Default).
    2. From the Text Tool floating menu (tap the T with a heart icon). This icon becomes active whenever your current settings differ from the default.

You can save any settings as default: color, size, font, text style, alignment, line height, and text box style.

Let us know if it works for you!

  6. Need to be able to lock individual items. In planners sometimes the layout itself is a sticker. Need to lock that so I can move the stickers above without the bottom one moving.

  7. I am writing to strongly request the addition of a split-screen view feature. As I work with increasingly large amounts of data, this feature has become essential for my workflow. Many other note-taking apps offer this as a standard feature, and it is becoming a deciding factor for me to consider switching to another platform.
I know many other users share the same need for this functionality. I truly hope the team considers prioritizing this update in the near future, as it would significantly enhance the user experience.

  8. Like a lot of people, I prefer to write my notes on a black background which then makes it difficult to print. I use different colours in a single sentence to group specific concepts together, which is lost if I replace all the colour. At the moment, there are two solutions: invert the entire page, which makes the other colours funky, or use the lasso to select individual colours.

My proposal is to allow you to select all text, drawings etc done in a single colour and bulk recolour it to a new colour. This would let you preserve other…

    Hello,

Thank you so much for sharing your suggestion!

We're happy to let you know that bulk editing handwriting color is already available in Goodnotes.

Simply lasso-select the handwriting you'd like to edit, then choose a new color from the color palette to apply it to the entire selection.

Feel free to give it a try, and we'd love to hear your feedback on how the feature works for you!

  9. Hi!
I’d love a feature that allows users to lock image position on the page.
Right now, when writing or moving handwritten notes over an inserted image, the image often gets accidentally moved as well.
This would be especially useful for students annotating diagrams, anatomy images, slides, or study materials.
A simple “Lock Image” option would make note-taking much smoother.

  10. Right now, GoodNotes doesn’t allow opening two documents side by side within the same app window.
    • You wish it worked like FreeNote S, where you can view and interact with two notes or PDFs at the same time. This is useful for comparing notes, referencing one document while writing on another, or dragging content between them without constantly switching tabs.

    1. Could you add an option to make autoshape tool as sticky tool. I usuanly draw shapes, add connection to them, adjust size and position, then keep on drawing. After adjust shapes, it gets back to Lasso tool automatically, then I need to switch back manually every time I want to keep on next shape.
    2. Another thing is about the connector. Could you add a function so I can delete intermediate point on a connector. Too many relay points make the connector difficult to adjust.

  12. Tape…Notability just published an update to allow something like white out tape that can be tapped to make transparent and then tapped again to ”reapply.”

Teaching implications of such a tool are obvious and awesome.

Please give us such a feature.

  13. Moving the eraser types (Stroke Eraser, Standard Eraser and Precision Eraser) to the toolbar on the right, where the eraser size already is, would make switching easier. Currently you have to always go to the eraser menu which gets stressful.

  14. Selective erase, just like the lasso tool. At the moment the only selection available for eraser is “Erase Highlighted Only” but some times i want to delete the text or shape within the highlighted area. Would be nice that we could pick “Erase handwriting only” as well.

    [Selective eraser is live 🎉]

    Hello,

Thank you so much for sharing your suggestions! Great news! Selective eraser is now available to users, with the release of 7.1.10.

This feature will allow you to erase with total precision. Simply select a single content type and erase only those marks, even when dragging the eraser across a mix of handwriting, doodles, and text.

We’ll keep you updated as things move forward, and we’d love to hear your thoughts or any additional feedback you’d like to share in the meantime.
