Customer Suggestions for Goodnotes (Apple)

Welcome to the Goodnotes idea-sharing space!

This space is dedicated to users on Apple devices (iPad, Mac, iPhone).

Tips to make your suggestion visible and bring your idea to life:

  • Search existing threads. Your idea might already be under discussion. If so, feel free to add your input or vote on it. More votes = more visibility.
  • Create a new thread if it’s new. If your suggestion is unique, start a new thread. Write a short, clear headline that quickly conveys your main idea, and include context and details in the description.
  • Separate multiple ideas. If you have several suggestions, split them into individual topics so we can review (and others can vote on) each one more effectively.

  1. Stop having lasso be the default tool. I cannot even remove it from the toolbar. It is frustrating that everything always goes back to lasso. I can’t even do multiple text boxes one after the other because once you type in a text box once and click off it goes straight to lasso instead of having text toggled on like it used to

Hello! Thanks so much for your feedback and for sharing your ideas with us.

We’re excited to let you know that we’ve updated the Text tool and introduced a new dedicated floating menu for text boxes, including more customization options.

One of the new tools is Pin Text Tool — when enabled, it keeps the Text tool active so you can create multiple text boxes continuously without having to reselect it each time.

This is especially helpful when you're focused on adding or adjusting text in your notes. The pin will automatically turn off once you switch to another tool.

Feel free to try it out and let us know how it works for you!

This improvement is available in the latest Apple update.

    [Toolbar customization is live!]

Thanks everyone for your contributions and feedback on the new toolbar customization feature. With the latest 7.0.14 update, it’s now available!

Here’s what you can customize in your toolbar:

    • Show only the tools you need: Hide or unhide tools from the main toolbar.
    • Arrange your most-used tools: Drag and drop tools to reorder them.
    • Customize the Writing Tools panel: Show or hide writing tools and change their order with drag and drop.
    • Add more tools to the main toolbar: Include Zoom Window, Time Keeper, or Ruler.
    • Move the floating menu: Drag the Shapes or Writing Tools floating menu to any screen edge—top, bottom, left, or right—to snap it into place.
    • Revert to the default layout: Restore the original setup anytime.

  3. After the latest update, I can’t find a way to set a default font and size for the textbox, unlike before when you can just click the icon and store the current font and size as default. Right now, every time you add a textbox, you have to start typing from blue, size 10, Modern font and change it manually.

Hello! The option to set the default style for text boxes is already available.

You can do it in two ways:

    1. From the text box object menu (tap the three dots → Save as Default).
    2. From the Text Tool floating menu (tap the T with a heart icon). This icon becomes active whenever your current settings differ from the default.

You can save any settings as default: color, size, font, text style, alignment, line height, and text box style.

Let us know if it works for you!

  4. Moving the eraser types (Stroke Eraser, Standard Eraser and Precision Eraser) to the toolbar on the right, where the eraser size already is, would make switching easier. Currently you have to always go to the eraser menu which gets stressful.
    Thank you!
