Math Calculator, Measurement Unit Conversion and Currency Conversion, within the app
I use GoodNotes to take notes during lectures but I also do a lot of my homework in this app. I wish I could at least perform some basic math calculations without leaving the app. Right now, if I want to do any calculations for math class or some other class, I need to leave the app in order to do a Google search or I have to use my phone to do it.
It would be helpful if I could write out the problems with the Apple Pencil and GoodNotes would be able to help me perform some basic calculations. Of course, this would only work if GoodNotes first adds a feature to recognize written math problems and convert them into text using the proper math symbols.
I definitely would love a feature like this because I use GoodNotes for my education and this feature would really help speed things up. It would also allow me to be focused on the task rather than being distracted in the process.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your feedback. Would it work for you to open a calculator app as a slide over app and then just swipe it in from the side when it is needed? You won’t have to leave GoodNotes for it and you can easily make some quick calculations.

The idea that goodnotes could read mathematical text, interpret it and then provide the calculation is a brilliant one.
I already use goodnotes to write equations and formula by hand. If it could do the sums for me live that would be really something! -

As the iPad does not have a built-in calculator app having one in GoodNotes would be an amazing bonus down-the-line.

I would also like to see a calculator function in the app. Or a way to circle a set of numbers and it will give you a total? Also a way to put in spreadsheets would be helpful.

Please implement this. It would be amazing to be able to quickly pop out a calculator within the app. Moderator's suggestion works but is not ideal because iOS screen splitting is clunky and takes multiple actions. Majority of the time I need to calculate something it's at the spur of the moment.

This would be crazy helpful as the iPad doesn't have a native calc app either.

The only issue with using the slide over app is that I have to write the equation all over again into the calculator. It would be great if I would only have to write it out one time on GoodNotes and then just select the text and the app would calculate it.

(Response to the moderator suggestion) That doesn’t work to open the app as a hover over. The things I would like to calculate require a lot of writing so it’s inconvenient to have to open an app as a hover over because it occupies a full vertical section. Sure we can move it left and right but that’s inconvenient and there’s really not much space to have a hover over app that to be honest can only add and multiply. I need to square large numbers and etc.

I agree with this suggested feature. This is an advanced feature but this feature worked on and improved over the years will really make GoodNotes stand out.

Thank you for replying to my post.
Of course there are workarounds to this. Ideally, I prefer to use GoodNotes in fullscreen as much as possible. It's a better experience and it helps me maintain a good flow when I'm working.
The way I was thinking the calculator feature would work is by automatically giving me a preview of the correct answer to the problem that I wrote down. It would recognize handwritten math problems and it would suggest an answer. If I want to accept the answer, I can automatically apply it as text or I can copy it down with my own handwriting. Maybe there can also be an actual calculator for people who are more comfortable typing their math problems instead of handwriting them.
This would not be the most essential feature but it would really help me think and problem-solve without distractions. My workflow would be smoother.
