1. [Fountain Pen] Lock Nib Angle

   When using the fountain pen with Apple Pencil rotation enabled, users must constantly re-adjust their grip to keep the nib horizontal. Locking rotation forces a fixed default angle that often looks unnatural for a fountain pen.

   Please add the option to lock the nib at a user-defined angle, for example by letting the user set the angle with a slider so the pen hits the page the same way every time. See image for example. This would greatly improve writing flow, style and comfort.

2. Horizontal Highlighting Feature for Improved PDF Annotation

   Good morning,

   I am leaving this comment because I believe it could help improve the user experience of the application. I am a student, and I use it daily for reading, highlighting PDFs, and taking notes, especially on texts.

   One of the main issues I encounter when studying on a tablet is that, when using the stylus with the highlighter function, my hand is not very steady, and the lines I draw are usually uneven. I know that by holding the stroke at the end it automatically straightens, but in many cases my stroke is so irregular that the correction results in curved lines that do not properly follow the text I intend to highlight.

   What I propose is adding a feature to the stylus and highlighter that allows drawing only horizontal lines, making highlighting and underlining much easier.

   I hope this suggestion is clear and helpful. Overall, I really like the application and find it very useful.

3. High resolution JPEG image export for Whiteboard

   I love the new whiteboard feature, but it seems that it has been built without exporting in mind with the only option to export still being a PDF file. This makes it impossible to export most whiteboards without losing quality, and making large whiteboards unreadable. Similar to Microsoft whiteboard, it would be fantastic if there was the option for a high resolution JPEG image export feature to complement the new update. Thank you!

4. Sticky Note pop-up gets cut off near page margins on iPad

   On iPad, when I place a Sticky Note near the page margin, the pop-up opens partially cut off/off-screen and it’s inconvenient to use. It would be helpful if the pop-up could extend beyond the page edges or automatically reposition, so it always stays fully visible.

5. [Import] Vertical Auto Layout for PDF Import in Whiteboards

   When importing a multi page PDF into a GoodNotes whiteboard, the pages are currently placed off to the right and arranged in a grid like layout. This forces users to manually reposition every page to create a readable top to bottom flow.

   For large lecture PDFs or study materials, this manual reorganization is inefficient and time consuming.

   A significant improvement would be an automatic vertical layout option where PDF pages are imported in a single straight column, stacked from top to bottom, similar to continuous scroll behavior. Ideally, this would be the default behavior, with an optional toggle to switch between grid and vertical layouts.

   This feature would greatly improve usability for students and professionals who rely on whiteboards for long form PDFs, lectures, and study workflows.

   Attached images show the current import behavior versus the preferred vertical layout.

6. Formatting updates broke note consistency

   How about you stop changing the layout/form or how thing work. You make it impossible for me. Always changing how tu bullet points are laced out, the padding, saving the default text. Now half my notes are laced out differently and worse form the other half. Genuinely inconsiderate. Making so many unnecessary changes.

7. Better PDF tools for academic research

   A side bar / the option to leave comments in the documents (just like in Word) so that you can quickly see the notes you took and don't have to scroll through the whole document searching each page to find them.

   This would be even better if there was an option to export only the notes from the sidebar, and ideally also the highlighted passages of a text.

   This would make GoodNotes much more competetive in relation to other pdf editing programs and much more useful for academic researchers

8. Improve GoodNotes AI Performance

   Currently, GoodNotes AI can only be used for basic document search (an advanced version of search) and asking questions within a document. Even when hints or correct answers exist in the document, it often responds with messages like, “The requested content cannot be found in the document. I will answer using general knowledge.”

   In addition, I would like the AI to provide answers that directly address my questions, but instead it often gives summarized or reorganized responses, making it difficult to find the exact answer I am looking for.
   For example, when I ask, “Is XX correct?”, the response usually explains “XX is …” by summarizing related content about XX. In these cases, it is hard to clearly determine whether XX is correct or incorrect.

   The GoodNotes AI performance I envision includes the following:

   In-document AI chat (answers strictly based on the document) / Out-of-document AI chat (answers using general or prior knowledge)

   Reasoning ability (the ability to reason and make judgments based on the given document)

   File upload support, including images, PDFs, PPTs, Word files, and native GoodNotes files

   Web search functionality:

   In-document AI chat + web search (if the requested information is not found in the document, use additional web search)

   Out-of-document AI chat + web search (use web search to supplement answers)

   Deep research capabilities

   The following features would be great to have after performance improvements:

   Image generation

   Video generation

   Features similar to those in Google LM (such as AI audio overviews, PPT generation, etc.)

10. IMPROVE GOODNOTES' SYNC, BACKUP, EXPORT, AND INTEGRATION

    I am writing this suggestion as a response to how obnoxious it is to set up a workflow that mirrors the Goodnotes Library across different, external applications.

    The current system has obvious limitations; the automatic Backup to Google Drive (or DropBox, OneDrive and WebDAV) is very useful for keeping an up-to-date PDF copies of Goodnotes documents, however it behaves solely as a backup rather than a true mirror (this is fine, but there is an audience that desires a true mirror that isn't accommodated for, even if they themselves don’t fully know how useful it would be). Currently:
    - creating a document creates the corresponding backup file
    - editing a document updates the backup file
    - renaming or moving a document/folder updates the backup structure
    - however, deleting a document or folder in Goodnotes DOES NOT delete the corresponding backup file.

    This makes it impossible for external applications to determine whether a PDF still corresponds to an existing Goodnotes document, or whether the original document has been deleted.

    My proposed solution?"Mirror Mode". How would it work? Enabling it would make GoodNotes maintain an exact one-way representation of the current Goodnotes Library in the selected cloud storage (e.g. Google Drive). For example, if I had the note "Functions" in a folder called "Mathematics", deleting "Functions" or the folder itself in Goodnotes would delete it from Google Drive as well.

    I believe an optional "Mirror Mode" extension for Automatic Backup, in addition to the existing Backup, would be an incredible addition to Goodnotes.

    The synchronization should be STRICTLY one-way though; changes or deletions made in the external storage should never propagate back into Goodnotes (unless an additional feature to turn it into true “two-way mirroring”).

    This would make the feature suitable for archival, backup, document-management and third-party integrations without the risk of accidentally deleting or altering the original Goodnotes document.

    Obviously, it would be ideal if the official API, webhook, or machine-readable manifest describing the current Goodnotes library were publicly available.

    An external application could then reliably determine which documents currently exist; their folder hierarchy; their unique IDs (← surprisingly invaluable); when they were last modified; whether a document was renamed or moved; or whether a document was deleted. On the note of a unique, persistent document ID, it would be very useful because it would allow external applications to distinguish a renamed document from a deleted document followed by the creation of another document with the same name.

    Why exactly do I believe this would be useful? It would enable direct, seamless integrations with applications such as:
    - Obsidian
    - Notion
    - OneNote
    - document-management systems
    - cloud archival systems
    - personal knowledge-management systems
    - automated backup systems

    WITHOUT requiring those applications to access Goodnotes' internal/private data.

    Additionally, I mentioned how Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive and WebDAV are proper backup methods, yet, for whatever reason, iCloud cannot do the same? I find this unreasonable and quite frankly a bit ridiculous. Someone working on an Apple Ecosystem is forced to use Google Drive (or the rest) to create an actual copy of their Goodnotes Library, despite Goodnotes having a unique relationship/agreement with Apple? Like, what?

    Nonetheless, adding these features would mean that Goodnotes would no longer need to build bespoke integrations for every external application, achieving the same effect simply and effortlessly.

    As a side-note, I believe that these features would, in turn, make Goodnotes even more integrated into day-to-day life; as opposed to being “just a notetaking app” primarily used by students or artists, it would have the potential to become ESSENTIAL on everyone’s device.

12. Reverse updates to keyboard of September/October 25 update

    I just want to be able to have everything in front of me without pressing a billion different buttons for the sake of cleanness. Give me the keyboard button back and put all the customization buttons right below the toolbar, just like it was before, I am begging you.

    Ich wünsche mir eine Erweiterung der bereits vorhandenen gelben Haftnotizen (“Sticky Notes”) um eine Option, mit der diese Notizzettel – inklusive ihres Inhalts – nicht auf einen extern angeschlossenen Bildschirm oder Beamer gespiegelt werden.

    Anwendungsfall:
    Beim Präsentieren oder Unterrichten über einen externen Monitor/Beamer möchte ich mir private Notizen, Stichpunkte oder Erinnerungen auf einem Sticky Note direkt auf meinem eigenen Gerät (iPad) machen können, ohne dass diese für das Publikum auf der Leinwand sichtbar sind – ähnlich wie ein “Presenter-Notizen”-Modus, wie man ihn z. B. aus PowerPoint kennt.

    Gewünschtes Verhalten:

    • Der Notizzettel bleibt auf dem eigenen Gerät sichtbar und bearbeitbar.
    • Auf dem gespiegelten/externen Display erscheint an dieser Stelle entweder gar nichts oder eine leere Fläche.
    • Idealerweise als Umschalt-Option pro Notizzettel oder als generelle Einstellung wählbar.
    

    Nutzen:
    Dies würde GoodNotes deutlich praktikabler für Lehrkräfte, Vortragende und Präsentierende machen, die während einer Bildschirmübertragung private Notizen, Regieanweisungen oder Zeitmarken benötigen, ohne diese versehentlich mit dem Publikum zu teilen.

15. Manual rotation/pivot of pages

    Personally, I can only really use GoodNotes when it is the only app on my screen, because my normal writing habit for paper is to have the paper at between a 40 and 60 degree angle.

    When I am only writing with GoodNotes, I can turn my whole iPad (which is challenging when traveling on a train but still possible). If I have multiple windows open for references, though, it makes this especially challenging and causes my wrist to hurt very quickly. My husband who is left handed also turns his paper the other way out of habit, and cannot use GoodNotes at all without frustration.

    I am instead using Z——a (another journaling app) for things that GoodNotes could do better. It is doubly frustrating because my main use is language learning, and I am trying to write my kanji correctly but without being able to manually rotate the page as I need, I wind up with skewed kanji which just hurts my studying.

    A simple 2 fingers to rotate the page however much we need could really make a huge difference. I have also used the whiteboard but when handwriting at an angle, I have to either deal with tons of red squiggles or turn off spell checking.

    I find Goodnotes very hard to use. A lot of digital planners that I follow state that you are to learn how to use it and that it takes practice. I don't have time for that.

17. Mehrere Bilder reduziert einfügen

    Es wäre sehr hilfreich, mehrere Bilder beim Einfügen auswählen zu können und diese dann in der Datengröße zu reduzieren. Ich habe Notebooks, die sehr groß sind, weil sie viele Bilder enthalten und das führt auch dazu, dass die Backups sehr oft nicht funktionieren, weil dies sehr lang dauert.

18. Enable the creation of equations directly with the keyboard, as in Word for example. Latex or Unicode equations

    Please, could you add the option of being able to insert equations and characters directly with the keyboard. Just as it is done in Microsoft Word, it would help and speed up the process of inserting and writing equations directly with the keyboard of the iPad or computer

    텍스트 상자를 클릭하고 원하는 위치를 선정할때 손으로 누르면 안먹거나 전체 텍스트가 인식이 됩니다.
    현재까지 AI있는 다른앱들도 텍스트 상자기능을 활용하면 키보드 연결하고 원하는 위치에 텍스트 상자 눌러서 클릭하면 바로 텍스트 상자를 이용할 수 있는데 그게 안되니까 짜증이 너무 납니다.
    그럼 키보드 치다가 원하는 위치를 손으로 바로 선정하는데

    많은 걸 바라는게 아닙니다. 6버전 전에는 텍스트 상자 클릭하고 문서 아무곳이나 손으로 클릭해도 잘 인식하고 원하는위치에 텍스트 상자를 넣었다고요.
    지금은 문서 전체를 인식해서 타자를 칠 수있다는 이상한 문구만 뜨고
    정작 원하는 위치에는 텍스트상자가 안생깁니다.
    그런 사소한 거 하나가 사람 신경을 거슬리하고 미치게 만들어요.
    제발 그 부분 수정해주세요
    원래 잘되었잖아요?????
    텍스트 전체 인식으로 링크를 넣으려해도 전체인식을 해서 원하는 곳에 곧바로 못넣어요. 텍스트 전체인식 안되고 못하잖아요.
    문서 전체 텍스트 복사 해봤는데 자료 못읽더라고요. 어차피 자료도 제대로 못읽을거 전체 블록 씌워져서 원하는 곳에 텍스트 입력도 안되거나 원하는 곳에 링크 추가도 안되는것 좀 수정해주세요.
    아니 다른 노트앱들 유로든 무료든 있는 당연한 기능이 안되면 어찌하나요.
