This would be a game changer! I know this comment is from 2013…. But I’m shocked that it’s 2026 and this still hasn’t been added!

Show guide lines for hand drawn shapes or corrected shapes to show where the center of the other shape is or where the other shapes end.

I want to start using the Whiteboard more (I love using post-its), but it’s annoying when I can’t get the alignment and spacing in relation to other elements perfect. I have to end up going back to Miro, but would love to stick to Goodnotes because I use it for note naking.

Temporary guide lines that can be toggled on/off while writing

I would like a feature that allows users to display temporary guide lines (e.g. like on lined paper) while writing on a blank page. These lines should not be part of the page background and should be removable or toggleable at any time, without affecting the handwriting.

This would be helpful for users who want the structure of lined or grid paper during note-taking but prefer a clean, blank page in the final result – for aesthetic or presentation purposes.

Ideally, the guide lines would be:
– Switchable on/off per page or document
– Not affecting the written content
– Customizable in spacing and style (e.g. dotted lines, grid, margin guides)

They could make something similar to canva (images) or word! Definitely would make me less annoyed. I like my things aligned :P

1) It would be helpful to have a guide for aligning shapes (as shown in the first image). When we have two shapes—like the two rectangles shown—and rectangle No. 2 is moved upward, a yellow line appears once it’s aligned with rectangle No. 1. This line indicates that the centers of both shapes are now aligned.

2) Sometimes, when drawing, if I try to connect two lines with a new one, it doesn’t align perfectly with the other two (refer to the video). I’m not sure how noticeable this is in the video, as the misalignment is often just a few pixels.

Please add this feature. A lot of people are leaving Goodnotes because it is frustrating to not be able to work without images or text being moved around. We need the ability to lock layers, text, and images.

this would be super helpful when your working on notes because it would save so much time from having to draw arrows line and manually line everything up (images, text, writing)

I completely agree. Why the hell is there no snap grid. I love everything else about Goodnotes but really really mis a snap grid.

I'm used to using Notability to this came to a shock to me as well. I have no physical illness, but for the sake of neatness and perfection, I used the "snap-align to other shapes" feature of Notability to:

- Perfectly space apart two parallel lines (think perfectly spaced tick marks on an axis of a graph since we can snap align to a template's gridmarks)
- Perfectly align lines by snapping one line to the end of another line (think drawing an x and y axis that are perfectly perpendicular to each other)
- Perfectly center a shorter line underneath a longer line, both lines in parallel
- Draw a circle that fits perfectly inside a square (so the edge of the circle will touch the square at exactly the points "North, South, East, West")
- Draw a Venn-Diagram so that both sides have equivalent areas

Currently on the free 7-day trial for GoodNotes. The "snap-align to other shapes" is definitely a feature of Notability has makes me hesitate to switch to GoodNotes. If there were a feature like that on GoodNotes that we could toggle on/off, I would definitely switch over.

Yes, I really need this! This would make the app so much better. I use a raster template now, that I remove when I'm done, but that is very annoying.

yes! I'm deciding whether to use GoodNotes as one of my core communication tools and the lack of this makes me hesitant. I'm a tech founder and need to be able to create diagrams quickly and easily.

Please provide snapping for images and stickers.

For God's sake I've been requesting an alignment feature since I first tried Goodnotes. It's the main reason I stopped using it and use Notability instead. I keep waiting for them to add this feature.

I know this has got to be a feature that everybody would appreciate. I use it constantly in Notability. I don't understand why Goodnotes doesn't prioritize this feature.

As someone who struggles with a physical illness (hand tremors), having a drawn line snap to the background grid of a page or having anything snap to a grid pattern of a page, would really, really help. It seems bizarre that this very basic feature is not available as its available on Notability. It's the single reason I can't switch over completely to Goodnotes, as just about everything is great, except for that very, very important feature.

This feature needs to be prioritized ASAP. I make sticker books in Goodnotes by adding PNG files to a Goodnotes book. These are huge books--thousands of PNG files in each one--and I have to resize and position them all manually, which takes forever. Guide lines that pop up when a picture, text box, or shape is the same width or height as the one beside it would make this tedious task SOOO much easier. All design programs have this (Canva, Affinity Publisher, Indesign, etc.). However, my favorite implementation of it is in Figma. Their guides are super simple and intuitive and just feel really good to use. It makes aligning and resizing objects so much easier. Please check out how they do it for an idea of what I mean.

I know Goodnotes was created as a note-taking tool, but there are so many other people out there like me who use it for designing digital sticker books (and some even do planners), that this feature would help. Please give this consideration ASAP!

I agree! Having a way to center a textbox or image to either the center vertically and horizontally would be a game changer!

Think about how Word does it…they had the separate options to align to left, center or right for both virtual and horizontal separately and they have the option to select pre made locations such as middle of the page
