[Outline] Shortcuts for creation
Different suggestion from the much needed sub-outlines (see the 600+ voted on suggestion by Daniel Wyatt “Sub-Outlines in Outline”) which would bring in a collapsible feature in Outline.
This is about being able to assign, to different elements of the outline, headings which would be integrated into the Outline system. Right now the document may have different internal headings, but if I add these to the GoodNotes Outline, they are difficult to keep in their actual order.
The suggestion is as follows :
Include the most common and convenient method to add headings using the # (as is possible in Notion and in many coding markups).
Where adding in front of the text :
1 # (#)
encodes and presents the text as heading 1
2 # (##)
encodes and presents the text as heading 2
3 # (###)
encodes and presents the text as heading 3
And so forth
A way to get default headings in the Outline basically.
(Even the site understands my coding commands lol )

I read lot of historical documents and it is such a pain to stop reading and go through this motion of adding it to outline. A simple keyboard stroke like CMD+O or CMD+SHIFT+O would be enough. that way I don't have to stop the flow of reading to perform this action. I hope next minor release can address this issue. If the action to add to outline was on the main menubar then atleast I can create Mac keyboard shortcut. But that is not the case either.
Same thing is true for adding it to bookmark, breaks the flow of reading just like adding page to outline
Also I agree with Allen's comment about Hierarchy for outlines, it is easy to create chapters and sub pages which can be collapsed like pdf outlines. -

It looks like this has been proposed a few times over the years and I still desperately need it! As a broader idea, it would be helpful if Toolbar customization could include many more options than what is given. But I personally add to my outline (which currently takes multiple clicks to do) far more often than I ever use a ruler (which is a toolbar option that I have never used).
At minimum, it would be helpful if the Outlines panel at least had a one-click to add option when it is open instead of having to click the three dots and then click "Add outline." Overall there are just far too many steps involved in creating a new heading.

Adding this shortuct and the ability to create subgroups within the outline would be extremely helpful!

I type the outlines for my university lecture notes in one go on my laptop and it would be great if there was a keyboard shortcut to add an outline for the current page. That way I wouldn't have to switch between the keyboard and trackpad all the time.

Or having it as a separate tab from the PDF outlines. Since currently there is no way to create hierarchy for custom outlines, having it mixed with PDF outlines really does not have any benefits.
I would rather have them completely separated, and essentially use "custom outlines" as the bookmarks in Good Notes 4 (which in 5 we cannot get the same effect, as "favorites" do not allow renaming.

I would love a keyboard shortcut for adding custom outline entries. Right now, it takes several taps.
