True dark mode
When the device is on dark mode, have text and pdfs invert colors (similar to apple notes and new dark mode on notability).

The dark paper templates are grey. I like them but black templates would be a lot easier on the eyes.
I tried importing a custom template but the zoom feature didn’t work well with it. -

I like writing on a black paper but then prefer to learn with a white one (also for exporting for my classmates and print). It would be awesome If we could for example set that everything written in white switches to black along with the paper. Bonus If we could set the other colours too.

I agree with this. I like the way OneNote does it. You can invert the screen from white to dark vice versa by a single button.

Or if we could just specify our pens/colors/sizes per template? So each time I open my black square grid, my white/colored pens come up but if I switch templates to white/yellow, it triggers a switch to a different combo.

Have a color and their paste equivalent and change between those colors so that you can change the paper from dark to white and that way you can study at night but also print your notes.

marginnotes 3 has this feature. documents are easier on the eyes. goodnotes needs to start innovating in their next iteration.

they have this feature in OneNote and I wish they didi it in GoodNotes too ! the most important change is changing the black/white ink but the colours could also be changed to the corresponding darker or lighter version of the colour

If it's not possible to do this, then perhaps create the ability to change paper and ink color on multiple pages at one time.

The ability to toggle on and off dark mode and have the paper and ink colors change accordingly.
Selecting dark paper and white ink looks great but is NOT 'dark mode'. When you go to print something created way you either waste a LOT of ink or you have to manually switch paper and ink color on each page.
For reference - Onenote does dark mode perfectly.

I would love to have a feature where I could turn on dark mode only in GoodNotes and that I don’t have to turn on dark mode on the whole iPad

The lack of a dark theme unless we get system wide dark mode is a bummer as i find your dark theme pretty good but i hate to use ipados in system wide dark mode

I think it's fine to leave all the other colors unchanged (besides the highlighters, they are visible only until you lift the pen, so maybe it's more an issue of how to render them on dark paper). If you export without background (e.g. if you send your document to someone who prefers a white background, or if you want to print it), white ink is the only color* that won't be visible anymore. Therefore it should be converted automatically.
* as long as you don't add the colors of the yellow and dark paper to the standard color palette.

When you are operating with Black paper and writing in white ink, the application should reverse the colors when printing (if you want to). I run dark mode to make it easier on my eyes. When I go to print I do not think we want to print all black ink over the entire page.

When printing notes that have dark mode/background/template
I would like to print this on dark printing paper,
Therefore Goodnotes would only need to print for the handwriting ink/text or pictures and not waste printer ink on creating a dark background ( since the printer paper is already black).

I was about to post this, this would be so useful!

I think it would make more sense to leave the paper in the color that it is and also not switching ink colors. That way, your note would look the same in all scenarios. Colors like dark green aren't really visible on black. I think it's enough to make the interface and menu (and the margins next to the page) darker, but not the page itself. If you want black paper also, you can already chosse a "dark" color option for the paper in your note settings.

Most document PDF are white with black text. Please provide a way to invert those colors on dark mode. Thanks.

Any idea of how that would work with coloured writing, i.e. green not black?

To prolong battery life and make reading easier, make the pdf’s darkmode like in google play books app. Most students who use GoodNotes study textbooks for hours on end while using the iPads battery and while the screen literally turns into a cooking element. Darkmode would enhance studytimes and literally more than double the usable hours on battery.
