[Toolbar] Support Customization
Bring back the option to customise the toolbar. I see a recent update has partially returned this feature (allowing to customise the main toolbar options), but this needs to carry over to each toolbar options (pen, pencil, highlighter, etc). Allow reorganising the squeeze pop up menu. This is meant to help streamline productivity, but now having my most used tools all over the place, I’m wasting time scrolling to find them.

[Toolbar Customization is live for Android, Windows and Web 🎉]
Hello,
We're happy to let you know that Toolbar Customization is now live for Android, Windows and Web apps.
For iOS users, this feature has been available since the November 2025 release — and now we’re excited to bring the same flexibility to more platforms.
You can now customize your toolbar in Notebooks and Whiteboards by hiding or showing tools, and reordering them to match your workflow.
Access Toolbar Customization from the Accessories Overlay or from Document Settings (in Notebooks).
For more details, please check out this article: Customize the toolbar.
Feel free to share your feedback and let us know how the feature works for you!

Can't agree more! Especially for the first two points.

This feature is slept on. Just like on Adobe (Illustrator) you can totally customize the panels to what features and tools you use, so in my case it would be nice to, for example, move the colors to the left as I write a lot with different colors to learn languages. And maybe I could add more colors to the toolbar if I remove another tool like the 'type' tool.

This is such a needed update! My note taking would be more efficient with easy access to 4 or 5 colors in my toolbar.

Also, I would like adding more colour shortcuts (not only three)

It would also be nice to have an option to reorder the tools because I am left handed and I always need to curl my wrist inward to reach the pen tool.

Needed especially in split screen mode, where most of the colors are hidden. I would want to hide tools I don't use (camera, text, laser, etc) to make more space for the pen colors.

Another example by using the nipple instead (just an idea, the nipple may be moved anywhere and contain any ui element)

# On landscape mode
- Move the toolbar elements to the side. Colors, pens, markers, undo, redo, bookmark, share... Allow the user to move all those elements to the sides (left+ right, all right, all left, classic mode). It allows more vertical space for writing and reading
- Change some UI elements: for example, “take a pic” and “gallery” can be combined into one single ui element, leaving more space for new ui elements (such us more colours, sizes, pentypes). Also, as seen in GoodNotes recent update, “shape” tool is no longer needed and can be replaced by “hold to shape”. Could be replaced with “ruler & compass”, for example# On vertical UI
- Keep the toolbar on the top/bottom as it is now, but with those changes I mentioned about “shape” and “picture” tools
# other ui changes
- Allow UI rearrange
- Allow UI size changes: GoodNotes is used mostly with apple pencil, there is no need for those big buttons. A couple of sizes would be great (compact and large)
- “Nipple” controls : As seen in Autodesk Sketchbook, a small nipple that allows quick access by swiping to some tasks, such as share, bookmarks, fulscreen view, etc. Highly customizable
- more toolbar customization. Use “nipple” to hide some ui elements instead of being always visible. For example, nobody needs the share button most of the time. Hiding it on the “nipple” will allow more space, keeping buttons a swipe away while not using much valuable screen space. Some elements to hide would be share, bookmarks, search, reader mode, new page, undo, redo...# Other needed changes (ive seen lots of these on feedback page, the toolbar changes i suggest allows more space for them)
- new Ruler and compass tool
- 4th size and colour
- if “shape” tool is being removed, I highly suggest more shapes and accuracy for “hold to shape” (it already is pretty great, just some tuning)# macOS Catalyst app
important note: if “nipple” is implemented on Goodnotes 5, I highly recommend disabling it from the macOS app. Swiping a ui element on the desktop its not a great option. Macs have larger displays and the Goodnotes app is mainly used for typing or reading, so moving the ui elements to the sides as the iPad ladscape mode is encouraged. I wouldn’t combine ui elements on macos due to the screen size
As always, thanks to the GoodNotes team for their incredible job on GoodNotes. I hope all these ideas help the team to improve the ui and make it more powerful for the Apple Pencil and the iPad. Keep going!

Definitely needed. I have ipad 6th generation, and I REALLY use the laser pointer a lot, but never the camera. I currently need to scroll to the right to see the laser pointer icon. Need to be able to move the laser pointer next to the highlighter.

Seconding the Jan 10, 2020 comment -- I would like to be able to rearrange or toggle the tools for exactly this reason. Thanks!

Please allow us to customize the top menu bar in Goodnotes. For instance, I don't normally take pictures or use the laser pointer feature. But I would love to have more than 3 colors readily available. I'm sure many other people have other preferences.
The only tools that are REQUIRED are the pen, eraser, select tool, one color, and one size. Everything else should be customizable.
Even if you didn't let us remove anything, my 11" iPad has so much blank space in the menu bar when in landscape mode -- let us add stuff. Thanks for considering and upvoting!

Being able to change the toolbar location! For me, it'd be great if it was movable to the other sides of the screen. For example, it'd be totally easier for me to switch between tools with my right finger if it were on the right side of the screen, while i write with my left hand.

I am here for the same idea. I find a lot of tools on the tool bar are not used by me frequently. Instead I would like to add more colors to the toolbar and have some additional tools such as the text tool, the screen pointer toll and the take photo toll in a dropdown

It would be nice if toolbar could be edited to rearrange the tools. I change ink color frequently, and it would be better (for me) to put those two tools (pen and ink color) closer together. As it is, I regularly hit one when I want the other - it’s just a muscle memory thing, and would be easier if I could place those tools closer together.

Hello, I have bought goodnotes 4 and 5. (I missed the notice about free upgrade. oh well) I find it the best overall of the various apple pencil compatible notes applications. I have purchased about three over time.
Anyway, with that said, one modification which I would love is the ability to customize the toolbar. For example, I never use the new laser pointer tool and very seldom use the camera or type writer text entry tool.
It would be nice if I could remove these tools and use the space for addional pen or highlight colors. I often write with a four color set of pencils just like in the old days where you could have a pen that actually clicks to make red, blue, black, green. I would love to be able to do that quickly in goodnotes.
Is this possible? If not, could it be submitted as a feature request?
