Presentation Mode fails when using Slide Over, Split View, or Stage Manager
Hello GoodNotes Team,
As a long-time user who relies heavily on iPad screen mirroring for teaching and presentations, I’ve encountered a major pain point that makes it impossible to present and check reference materials simultaneously on a single device.
I found that GoodNotes' "Presentation Mode" (which is supposed to show a pure UI-free view on the external screen) immediately breaks down and reverts to global screen mirroring—exposing my toolbars, background, or other apps—in the following scenarios:
During Screen Mirroring / AirPlay, if I pull up another app using Slide Over or Split View on the iPad.
When connecting to an external monitor with iPadOS Stage Manager turned on.
I understand this is highly likely caused by Apple's underlying Screen Mirroring API, which seems to require absolute full-screen exclusivity to maintain Presentation Mode. However, I strongly urge the development team to look into this:
Is it possible to develop a dedicated "Pure External Window Mode" specifically optimized for external displays under Stage Manager?
Could GoodNotes advocate on behalf of the massive community of educators/presenters by submitting a request to Apple for more flexible external screen control APIs?
Currently, the lack of true multi-tasking support during presentations is a huge limitation for iPad power users. Looking forward to your thoughts and any potential workarounds!
Thank you,
A devoted user
