I would like to request an option to reverse the page-turning direction of notebooks and PDF documents.

Currently, Goodnotes is primarily designed around left-bound documents, where pages progress from left to right. However, traditional Japanese documents that use vertical writing are generally right-bound, with pages progressing from right to left.

This is not limited to books, manga, or traditional publishing. It is also an important issue for professional users in the Japanese animation industry.

Japanese Animation Production Scripts

In Japanese anime production, scripts used for voice recording and audio production are traditionally formatted with vertical Japanese text and right-to-left page progression.

These recording scripts are used extensively during professional anime production by voice actors, sound directors, directors, producers, and other production staff.

Tablets such as the iPad are increasingly used in professional production environments, and applications like Goodnotes can be extremely useful for reading scripts, writing notes, marking dialogue, and making production annotations.

However, because Goodnotes currently assumes left-to-right page progression, Japanese vertical scripts behave in the opposite direction from the way the physical script was designed to be read.

For professionals who have spent many years working with traditional Japanese scripts, this makes page navigation unintuitive and significantly reduces the usability of Goodnotes for this purpose.

Requested Feature

It would be very helpful if Goodnotes could provide a document or notebook setting such as:

Page Direction

Left to Right (Left-bound)

Right to Left (Right-bound)

Ideally, this setting would affect:

Page-turning gestures

Horizontal scrolling

Two-page / spread view

Thumbnail ordering

Page navigation

PDF viewing

For a right-bound document, the first page should appear on the right side of a two-page spread, and subsequent pages should progress toward the left, matching the behavior of a traditional Japanese book or script.

Why This Matters

Right-to-left page progression remains an important part of Japanese publishing and professional content creation.

It is used not only for manga and books, but also for professional Japanese anime recording scripts and other vertically written production documents.

Supporting right-bound documents would therefore not simply be a cosmetic localization feature. It would make Goodnotes substantially more practical for professional workflows in Japan's animation, publishing, manga, and entertainment industries.

As someone working professionally in Japanese animation production, I would very much appreciate having this option in Goodnotes.
