  1. GN recently took away the ability to do straight underling in favor of holding the pen until it snaps into place. I do a lot of underlining of study projects, and that was my most used feature. Now it is gone and it takes much more time to have to hold the pen for a straight line to snap into place. What is wrong with adding that button back into the annotation mix? I am sure I am not the only one who was dissapointed in this automatic new version. Is there a way to go back to the earlier…

  2. I think it is critical that an instructor upload version be provided for grading important paper exams. The instructor would upload a PDF with batches of exams. Based upon a template, the batched PDF would be split into submissions. Then each submission would be sorted to the appropriate students and go through the grading process.

This would be useful in cases where students don't have easy access to iPads/styli. Or, where teachers are giving paper exams and don't want students to handle the submission process.

  3. It would be very helpful if there was a dedicated backspace button (similar to the enter button to start a new line) for the text box. When I’m writing and converting to text it would be easier to be able to backspace and delete certain letters or words or remove a line or indent I made by having a backspace button like when typing on a traditional keyboard.

  4. add infinite canvas outside pdf doc boundaries, (that is limitless note taking and comment excerption like in liquid text pro app). This would make it the definitive note taking app, for both research and personal study. This could be killer feature for paper analysis, together with proper latex support and import export option csv files for study set…

  6. There should be an option to draw shapes with rounded corners added to the new stroke settings similar to the ability to draw dashed and dotted lines and arrows heads. This idea was posted 2 other times back in 2020 but has not been addressed or updated.

  7. I often import lecture PDF files into GoodNotes to take notes and add annotations. In many cases, professors or instructors provide materials as text-based PDFs. However, there are also many situations where the files have been converted from PDF → image → PDF, making the text unselectable and turning the entire document into an image.

When a document is image-based, tasks such as translating the content, searching for unfamiliar terms on the web, or asking GoodNotes AI questions about specific text become difficult. Currently, GoodNotes AI’s OCR capabilities for image-based documents are quite limited, and it sometimes misrecognizes text or…

  8. Dear Goodnotes Team,

I’d like to share some feedback regarding the use of a mouse in the iPadOS version of Goodnotes.

Currently, when using the app on a MacBook, it’s possible to highlight text with a mouse. However, on the iPad, this functionality is not available. If you’re using an iPad with a mouse and keyboard setup, you have to physically move the iPad closer, pick up the Apple Pencil, and only then can you highlight text.

This makes the experience less seamless, especially for users who prefer a desktop-like setup with their iPad.

I’d like to suggest that you…

  9. Everything is good I mainly use Goodnotes for mind mapping my lectures the only hindrance I faced that I was not able to add video clips to my notes, and also when I import PDF of my lecture notes in good notes. I can’t just drag and drop pages from like a specific slide to directly into my Notes, which is like a another hindrance because I have to take screenshot again and again and then put it back in. Also, this one is not a criticism, but a suggestion that there could be more tools for writing. It would…

  10. While in split screen, it would be very useful if we were able to drag and drop images between windows as a PNG. For example, if I’m reading a neuroscience PDF textbook, i want to be able to click and hold a diagram, drag it to my notebook page, and drop it without the white background. Currently, you can only copy-paste screenshots. We should be able to remove the background. other apps can do this and I would rather it be in goodnotes.

  11. You completed the image lock. Yay!
Unfortunately once an image is locked, I cannot use the links programmed into the base document that are behind the image. Added links can be layered on top but the base document cannot be altered.

  12. When importing a multi page PDF into a GoodNotes whiteboard, the pages are currently placed off to the right and arranged in a grid like layout. This forces users to manually reposition every page to create a readable top to bottom flow.

For large lecture PDFs or study materials, this manual reorganization is inefficient and time consuming.

A significant improvement would be an automatic vertical layout option where PDF pages are imported in a single straight column, stacked from top to bottom, similar to continuous scroll behavior. Ideally, this would be the default behavior, with an optional toggle to switch…

  13. ・I want to be able to lay out images more freely in text documents. For example, if you reduce the size, you can arrange photos next to it.

・I want to insert a saved video on my device instead of a link.

・I find it convenient to be able to preview links on both text documents and whiteboards.

・I would like the image to be compatible with Live Photos.

  14. Please refer to diary apps such as Day One.

・Since I use it for diary purposes, I would be happy if a notebook function specialized for diaries was added in the future. If a function like a map database is added, it would be great if there is a mechanism that can record location information.

・I want a function like an album by tagging notes and images.

・If there is a calendar function that can be checked back on a date basis, I think it will be very attractive as a diary.

・There are a ridiculous number of notebooks in…

  15. When we create a link to another page within our documents we currently have to specify by page number. For documents with many pages it's not helpful having to remember which page has what information.

All the pages can be renamed, so it would make sense if those names were displayed in addition to the page number.

That would allow a quick way of identifying and linking to a specific page.

The thumbnails that do show are often far too small to allow you to see the page's content.

  16. Feature Request: Add File Replace Option When Importing Files with the Same Name
When importing a file with the same name, GoodNotes currently brings it in as a new document and renames it as “filename 2.”
However, sometimes instead of importing it as a new document, it would be better to overwrite/replace the existing file.

When the file being imported has the same name as an existing file, it would be great if a prompt appeared asking whether the user wants to:

    Overwrite the existing file,

Import as a new file, or

    Cancel the import.

    Adding this overwrite option would…

  17. Feature Request: Independent Sidebar Position Settings for Page Layout, Search, and GoodNotes AI
Currently, the sidebar position setting in GoodNotes applies globally to Page Layout, Search Layout, and GoodNotes AI, allowing the sidebar to be placed only on either the left or the right side for all panels at once.

However, I would like the ability to set GoodNotes AI to always open as a right-side panel, while keeping the Page Layout and Search Layout on the left side. I believe this behavior was possible in the past, but it now appears to be unified under a single global setting.

  18. Request for Improved Pencil Writing Feel
(Adding Jitter Control and Grit Control Options)

As shown in the attached image, a pencil thickness of approximately 0.3–0.35 mm provides the most comfortable writing experience. When the thickness is set above or below this range, the jitter either becomes too weak or too strong, which significantly reduces writing satisfaction.

For this reason, I would like to request the addition of adjustable jitter control and grit (texture) control options.

Additionally, the current pencil tool lacks advanced customization options. To enhance professional writing and drawing experiences, I propose separating the pencil tool into distinct categories,…

  19. When exporting a large selected area as a PDF, handwriting often becomes pixelated or blurry.

It would be helpful if users could draw an “8” shape with the selection tool to divide the selected area into multiple regions. The intersection of the “8” could act as a separator, allowing Goodnotes to automatically export the content as multiple PDF pages (two or more, depending on the gesture).

This feature could work on both Whiteboard and Notebook pages, making it easier to export large handwritten notes while keeping the text quality high.

  20. Instead of having the colors set up like Option 1, where we have to scroll left and right to find our colors, can y’all make a feature like the example in Option 2? In this version, the color we’re using would be selected, and if we want to see all our colors or change the color, all we have to do is click the drop-down arrow and the rest of our colors will appear. That way, we can have as many color options as we want without having to scroll left and right to find them.
