2. GoodNotes AI is Unnecessary

   The new features feel unnecessary and almost like bloatware. Other LLMs, such as DeepSeek, Gemini, etc are AI tools that other companies, universities, etc have licenses with. The AI credits are also useless - what is the incentive to use GoodNotes AI vs DeepSeek, Gemini, GPT4, etc, if you need to pay $9.99 more per month.

   There isn't a way to turn off AI in GoodNotes either, which is pretty frustrating.
   A huge motivation for people to switch from Notability to GoodNotes was the better UI and affordability. Paying $9.99/month for AI credits, for a feature I haven't seen many friends/students/redditors on r/GoodNotes use, is moving away from optimizing user experience and instead where money is, industrially.

   Also, the audio transcription tools are confusing and don't work. I can't transcribe my notes (and after looking through r/GoodNotes, many others cannot) - I find this to be an accessibility issue. Then, to generate notes, you have to purchase AI credits to use your recordings? Again, doesn't feel very accessible or user-friendly - just takes up space on my iPad.

3. Universal Color Palettes

   Hello, could you all add the ability to have all of our colors be universal across all pens, pencils, sticky notes, text, and etc.? It is annoying trying to use a color that I know I have added with the pen but did not feel like adding to the pencil, text, and highlighter separately. Could we also have the ability to create color pallet groups? Similar to the one in procreate (Picture below). Sometimes it is over whelming trying to find a color. And most of my colors mimic my real life pen colors. So being able to place colors in groups would be nice to have in the near future as well as the shared colors across all color pallet options. :D

4. Drawing on text document

   Following the recent update which added the text document, I think that users should be able to have the option of writing, drawing and highlighting on the page. For me my study method is typing out my lecture notes in OneNote and then exporting to Goodnotes to highlight and annotate. However, if I was able to do this with the text document feature, it would make things so much easier. Not just for me but other users also.

   Generate an OCR text layer for imported scanned PDFs, making them searchable within GoodNotes

   Why This Matters (User Perspective)
   Study and exam PDFs often require repeated OCR, compression, splitting, and conversion.

   The current export → convert → re-import workflow introduces friction and increases the risk of file loss or version confusion.

   Even a minimal set of conversion and utility tools inside GoodNotes would significantly elevate it from a “note-taking app” to a complete PDF-based learning and workflow hub.

   There have already been community requests asking for integrated OCR and processing for imported PDFs, indicating strong and ongoing user demand.

   If possible, I kindly ask the team to consider implementing this either as a core GoodNotes feature or as an official add-on / extension.

   Hello,
   I am a user who relies on GoodNotes primarily for PDF-based learning and professional workflows.

   GoodNotes is extremely strong in handwriting and annotation. However, when it comes to preprocessing and converting PDFs for study or work, users must leave the app and rely on external PDF tools, which significantly breaks the workflow.

   Currently, GoodNotes supports searching handwritten notes, typed text, and some PDF text. However, imported scanned PDFs without an OCR text layer are not searchable, and GoodNotes does not currently provide a way to apply OCR to already imported PDFs.
   As a result, scanned handouts, printed materials, and lecture PDFs cannot fully benefit from GoodNotes’ powerful search capabilities.

   Because of this limitation, many users must rely on external PDF apps to:

   Create searchable (OCR) PDFs

   Convert documents between formats

   Compress and organize pages

   This workflow requires repeatedly exporting files, converting them elsewhere, and re-importing them into GoodNotes, which is time-consuming and error-prone.

   In contrast, other PDF tools (such as UPDF and Wondershare PDFelement) provide a centralized “Tools Hub” that includes OCR, PDF ↔ Word/Excel/PowerPoint conversion, compression, merge/split, watermarks, Bates numbering, headers/footers, and batch processing in one place. The difference in productivity is very noticeable.

   For these reasons, I believe GoodNotes would greatly benefit from offering a PDF Conversion & Document Utility feature (“Converter Hub”), either as a built-in capability or as an official extension/partner feature.

   Built-in browser or web search panel

   When working on a note, project, or research database, I often need to look up information on Google or check the reference on the website.

   With an in-app browser or a small search panel, users can browse and take notes without leaving good notes, creating a smoother and more efficient workflow.

8. New version is so much worse

   Now its nearly unusable,I can’t edit a type-in document,It won’t let me change the colors or edit the title type,it is not comfortable to find the type-in part either.It just got so much worse,I’m close to switching to another note taking app.Please fix these and let us get back the previus version !

9. New update = hot garbage

   1. The tool bar being ON my document is blocking parts of my notebook, making my working area smaller.
   2. When in split screen mode half of the toolbar disappears(we used to be able to scroll over still) and will only reappear if i make the window bigger.
   3. Instead of functions being displayed on the toolbar i now have to press extra buttons to get to things like the bookmark, but why?
   4. Why is my pen automatically the lasso? In GoodNOTES you would think i would automatically need the pen no?
   5. Not everything needs to be a drop down menu! The double bar was goated! One tap to get to things NOT FIVE!
   6. The text box function is completely ruined. I have to tap it extra times to move it or expand it, but why?
   7. WHY ARE TEXTBOX CONTROLS ON MY SCREEN BLOCKING MY DOCUMENT?? JUST PUT IT BACK AT THE TOP OR ON THE SIDE OR SOMETHING BUT ON THE DOCUMENT I AM TRYING TO REFERENCE?? WHYYYYYYYYYYY?
   8. Press and hold to go into text mode? Why? There was a nice button that we could press that would instantly take us there. Now we press the text box button and then press and hold. Just for it to look odd.

11. Align and space shapes

    Love the new shapes tool but it would very useful if shapes (or in a broader sense also all other objects like images, text, stickers, etc.) could be aligned and spaced out evenly to make notes look more professional.

    Also the option to eg. center elements on the page via an x/y axis. There could be an option to turn automatic snapping/ guidelines on or off.

    It is very difficult to eyeball objects to be consistently spaced and aligned and often results in pages not looking consistent.

12. Pen color inversion for dark backgrounds and export options

    Feature request:

    Hi GoodNotes team,

    I would like to suggest a feature for better dark mode note-taking.

    When the page background is dark, it would be very helpful if pen colors could automatically reverse or adapt for visibility. For example, black handwriting could appear white on a dark background, while still preserving readability.

    Also, when exporting notes, please allow users to choose whether the handwriting should be exported as black or white. This would be especially useful because notes that look clear on a dark background may become hard to read when exported or printed.

    Suggested options:

    Auto-invert pen color when using a dark background
    Keep original pen color
    Export handwriting as black
    Export handwriting as white
    Export exactly as shown on screen

    This would make dark mode much more practical for studying, annotating, and sharing notes.

13. handwriting mindmap

    Handwriting mindmap is soooo needed! there are few apps can do this, but if it is combined in goodnotes, i am sure there will be much more subscribers

    The only app i can find with the features is Tmind.

15. Theme Customization

    Please introduce a theme customization feature in Goodnotes.
    
    It would be great if users could personalize the app by selecting their own colors or applying themes from a theme store.
    
    In addition to light and dark mode, please allow customization of the writing UI, menu colors, and background styles as well.

16. Option to Hide undo/redo button

    While writing down reference details of the contents being written in the notes, the undo/redo button often comes above it in the top right/left. Hiding it while using the gestures for undo/redo is a better option in this case.

17. Rotate page when writing

    Can you please make it to where we can rotate the page or turn it to the side slightly when writing like you would in procreate or on a regular piece of paper? I find myself having to turn my iPad to the side or my body just to get comfortable when writing. That would be a cool idea to implement.

18. Add right margin to PDF for annotations

    This option adds a 2,5 inch margin at the right side of the document for annotating. The margin is collapsible afterwards or can be kept open permanently. This way one can annotate on PDFs with tiny margins without having to compress all the info.

19. High resolution JPEG image export for Whiteboard

    I love the new whiteboard feature, but it seems that it has been built without exporting in mind with the only option to export still being a PDF file. This makes it impossible to export most whiteboards without losing quality, and making large whiteboards unreadable. Similar to Microsoft whiteboard, it would be fantastic if there was the option for a high resolution JPEG image export feature to complement the new update. Thank you!
