[Toolbar] Support Customization
Bring back the option to customise the toolbar. I see a recent update has partially returned this feature (allowing to customise the main toolbar options), but this needs to carry over to each toolbar options (pen, pencil, highlighter, etc). Allow reorganising the squeeze pop up menu. This is meant to help streamline productivity, but now having my most used tools all over the place, I’m wasting time scrolling to find them.
Thanks for your feedback!
We’re happy to share that we’re actively working on improving customization options for the toolbar, and this feature will be available soon.
Here are the upcoming improvements plan we’re currently working on:

Zoom window:
This is a very usefull tool for writing and I'm disappointed that it keeps getting regressed.
Suggested improvements :
1. Available in one click in toolbar, unlike current double clicks each time
2. Provide custom toolbar within zoom tool for erase, pencil color, shading color and lasso tool. It is very frustrating and time-consuming to move to the top each time to change color or shader or eraser everytime. -

Please bring back the ability to customize the pallet when using the Apple Pencil. I can't arrange how I want my tools to be laid out as there are limited options in the "customize toolbar" option. I want the tools like, lasso, pen, text, image, tape, to be where I want them to be in the pallet. The whole point of the pallet is to make things easier to click, which when I have to take 2 to 4 steps or have to swipe up to use the tool that I want it's annoying. Especially for the fact that this used to be an option and now its not...

The most important thing for me is the zoom button used for writing, it is now hidden!

I agree. Let us choose how to organize the toolbar. I find it unnecessary to have 2 or 3 sections with their own overflow/hidden menu. Just let us place the tools we use most often directly on the bar (that includes different „pens“ like highlighter and eraser and also now hidden tools like the ruler or the zoom writing window). Absolutely everyone has their own opinions/needs on this. So it would be best to just let us organize this ourselves.
It would also be great if we could reorder the overflow menu to our liking.
Sadly, i don’t own an iPad compatible with the Squeeze Apple pencil. But if I did (or in the future) I absolutely would like to customize that menu too ;)!
PS: Since you got a lot of flak for the sept 25 ui rework: I like the floating toolbar. It doesn’t take up more vertical space than the previous toolbar did. I can flick it to side so it only obscures page margins or even hide it completely while still being able to write/highlight. This is great!

Please bring back the toolbaar customisation.
While taking my notes, i really want to see all the colours like before, without having to do many steps so that i can be efficient and quick.I don’t want to select an extra option of pen and then to swipe through the colours again and again.
Thank you.

Doubling down on the recent elements toolbar being taken away - this makes editing pages harder bc of the pop up windows. Would love the option to have the recent elements in the tool bar so that I can edit fun pages easier and quickly

Please bring back the recent elements into the tool bar or give an option to. When you split screen and have to drag each one into the document it’s very time consuming and messes up the layers

With the new GoodNotes update, the ability to customize the toolbar has decreased. In turn, getting accustomed to this has added some overhead to my note-taking. Here are some suggestions I have:
1) Be able to rearrange the order of tools in the bar, including the lasso tool and record tool
2) Customizing the width of the dropdown tools, such as the pencil bar. I find that the pencil drop-down bar is too narrow and often find myself scrolling for the colours I want to use. If it were wider, I wouldn't have to scroll as much, I could put more colours in the bar, and I could add additional pencil size presets.
3) Customized toolbar colour themes
4) Option to put the drop-down toolbars back into the main toolbar (with customized width), so it saves space. -

I genuinely never go out of my way to give feedback for companies. However, I created an account to do so here and highly urge the people of Goodnotes to bring back squeeze pop up menu customization.
I'm currently a college student. Myself, along with many others who have utilized this software are now second guessing it's productivity as we now have scroll through obsolete and unused tools.
When I was first introduced to Goodnotes, I was amazed at it's capability for workflows and it's ability to customize how the user deemed fit. Some have moved over to other softwares and I hope not to do the same but as it stands, Goodnotes usefulness has diminished significantly due to this new update.

Yes, please, it's funny that it worked before the last update. Please, wonderful people of Goodnotes, bring it back.

Please make the toolbar customizable. I use the pencil, eraser, and highlighter 90% of the time and now have to go into a submenu to access. I also used to be able to see the recent stickers previewed in the toolbar and could easily grab one, but now have to scroll and navigate. Please bring back the previous toolbar or at least give the option to customize. Thank you! I love goodnotes!

Hello GoodNotes Team,
A feature I think would be very helpful is customizable toolbar shortcuts. Currently, the toolbar has fixed options, but allowing users to rearrange tools or add their frequently used tools would save time and improve workflow efficiency.
Key benefits:
Quick access to favorite pens, highlighters, or shapes.
Reduces time spent navigating menus.
Tailors the app to personal note-taking style.
This small change could make a big difference for daily users.

When I select text, the floating format text toolbar pops up. It used to have Copy as one of the shown toolbar buttons. Now it is on the More option. I have never used the indent or bullets option, so I would like to customize this toolbar to put the buttons I use the most at the forefront.
As a side note, it would be helpful to have in your material somewhere an image and name for all the toolbars (floating and not) as there are a lot of suggestions for toolbars (generic). I like some of the docking options mentioned for toolbars as well

The recent update on iPad makes a lot of things worse. Now there are 2 menus for writing instead of one. This takes twice as long to start writing. Now I have to click a dropdown on the right to get the zoom window, instead of it being on the actual bar, so now that takes 2 clicks as well. Why not let me customize the features that I actually use instead of making assumptions. As someone who paid for this program I am not happy.

Since the last update, there’s been re-grouping of the function in GN.
Now, the lasso tool got a fixed place, making it much less convenient to reach it.
Each time I need it, I need to scroll all the way until I find it.
Please make it more flexible. -

October Update Suggestions:
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO US <333
About September 2025 Update: Can you allow us to customize our toolbar like before? Please. WORK ON IMPROVING ‘ASK FEATURE’ ESPECIALLY FOR LARGE FILES/TEXTBOOKS. ALLOW US TO MAKE QUIZZES FROM THERE WITH UNLIMITED NUMBER OF ITEMS. WE WANT AN INTERACTIVE QUIZ MAKER
The best note-taking app ever! I have more suggestions to make Goodnotes even better: Improve Transcribe feature to make it more accurate. Also, if you could integrate other languages in it like Filipino on my recordings. Improve AI and add more pencil tools. Integrate Apple Smart script. Further, improve your flashcards by making it more like a game-like quizzing as is the case in Gizmo app. Please add built-in flashcards AI maker like that of Notability by improving the existing Flashcards maker. APPLE CALENDAR, CRAFT DOCS APP, APPLE REMINDERS integrations.. Lastly, Ability to automatically turn highlights into texts on bookmarks like that of in Moonreader app. Looking forward to these in your future updates. Thanks.
New Bug noticed: THE ASK FEATURE ISN’T WORKING AT ALL! Please fix this ASAPP
UPDATE: LIQUID TEXT, Flashcards AI maker, and AI Voice Chat while studying my notes features please, Improved Timer (with daily goals, stat, apple calendar integration to track it), Improved Goodnotes AI. PLEASE CREATE A LEARNING COACH FOR GOODNOTES LIKE IN GEMINI AI. Lastly, please add a bookmark/dot markers on the Canvas/infinite notes so that we can easily pinpoint the main ideas if we decide to make lots of figures/mindmaps. To do this, you can easily add a ‘Map’ button on the Ribbons tab just like in ‘Add an outline’ to regular notes.
