Implement a splitscreen option.
The splitscreens option allows the user to see two pages of one document at once. With this option the user can open an informative pdf on the one side while taking notes on a different sheet on the other side.
We’re excited to announce that we have completed this feature. It is now available in the update GoodNotes 5.3 for iPadOS (13.1).
With the update, we added full support for iPadOS’ multiple windows. It lets you do much more than viewing two documents side by side. To read everything you need to know about opening multiple documents, please visit goodnotes.com/ipad-os.
How to open a new window:
You can now open GoodNotes in multiple windows to view two documents side by side, view two pages of the same document in Split View, or pair it with other apps in spaces across your entire system. To open a new window, drag any of the elements listed below to the side of your screen:
- the app icon from the dock
- documents from the library
- folders from the library
- individual pages from the document thumbnail view
- tabs from the tab-bar
You can also use the buttons in the library action menu or from the tab-bar to open a new window.

Note: My main use case is being able to view the earlier content of the "same document" on the other side.

I'm thinking about buying an iPad Pro for note taking and using Goodnotes and I am holding back until this feature comes out. Not being able to do this with Rocketbook everlast was a dealbreaker for me. Currently using lots of engineering paper and killing trees. Help me stop!

Concepts (another fantastic vector ink app) recognizes a two-finger-tap and a three-finger-tap gestures and lets the user configure them—e.g. two-finger-tap to undo, 3 to re-do. A multi-finger single tap would be better than a double-tap, as it is even quicker. I’d like these gestures to be mappable to at least the following behaviors: undo, redo, switch to eraser tool, do nothing (for those who find themselves triggering them accidentally). Nebo’s scratch-through is kitschy, but far from ideal.

That would be really great to have! Actually I would use it right now... I hope it will be available soon. This would push you behond competition... Especially with the current Rush of iPad Pro...

Yes, please add this function so I can use GoodNotes alone as my main note taking system.

Would love to see this. Currently studying from, and annotating, a PDF that is 400+ pages long. Would love to be able to capture the really important bits in one notebook, while still being able to write comments in the PDF in the window beside it.

I need this a lot too! Better still, make an option for continuous scrolling, so I can see the end of the previous page when writing on current page. Splitting the screen in two might make each page too small. Please make this happen soon!

Yes please, great to be able to refer to previous notes while writing new ones...

Very much waiting for this option!

I agree that undo is uncomfortable now. Double tap can be a simple and fast feature.
