We’re excited to announce that we have completed this feature. It is now available in the update GoodNotes 5.3 for iPadOS (13.1).
With the update, we added full support for iPadOS’ multiple windows. It lets you do much more than viewing two documents side by side. To read everything you need to know about opening multiple documents, please visit goodnotes.com/ipad-os.
How to open a new window:
You can now open GoodNotes in multiple windows to view two documents side by side, view two pages of the same document in Split View, or pair it with other apps in spaces across your entire system. To open a new window, drag any of the elements listed below to the side of your screen:
- the app icon from the dock
- documents from the library
- folders from the library
- individual pages from the document thumbnail view
- tabs from the…An error occurred while saving the comment Please add a native two-page book view within a single window on Mac and iPad, with both pages navigating together. Opening two separate windows adds duplicate toolbars and requires navigating each window independently. I study Arabic books, so support for right-to-left page order would also be very helpful. A simple toggle between single-page and two-page view would make reading and studying much easier.

[Layers is in progress 🚧]
Hello,
We’re thrilled to say that we hear you—one of our most-requested features, Layers, is on its way!
Layers is gradually rolling out to Goodnotes Pro users on iPad and Mac. This early version supports up to 5 layers in notebooks. Please note that it isn’t available during a Pro trial.
Layers is currently experimental, so your feedback is especially important. Please share your experience to help us understand how—and whether—we should develop the feature further.

Please add adjustable writing margins to imported PDFs on Mac and iPad. I study books with limited space for annotations and need room beside the original text for typed and handwritten notes. Ideally, we could choose the margin width and which sides to expand, applying this to selected pages or the entire document while preserving text quality, search, and links. This would be extremely useful for studying and reviewing books.
