I’ve felt the same way and ended up using a mix of app-level lock plus keeping certain notebooks in a separate local-only folder. It’s a bit of a patchwork, but it keeps stuff out of sync until I’m cool with it being on the cloud. Some folks also import PDFs into password-protected containers before adding them, though that’s a bit of a hassle.

I’ve been wishing for something like this too, mostly because bouncing between apps breaks my focus. Even a lightweight mini-browser tucked into a sidebar would do the trick. I use split view as a workaround, but it feels like using duct tape instead of a real fix. If they ever add this, I hope it plays nice with Apple Pencil so grabbing quick references feels smooth and not like a juggling act.

Group rearranging would save me so much time too. I’ve tried using long folder names as a workaround, but it gets messy fast and feels like trying to label moving cats. A simple drag and drop to reorder categories or stack them would clean things up in a snap. Even being able to collapse big groups would make scrolling feel less like a workout.
