1. Shape autofill

   I used to use the shape snap feature when writing notes. Previously the shape would automatically fill in with a less opaque colour, and I had the option to erase the filled colour using the erase tool, or leave it but change the colour(both of which I used on different occasions). In the new update I can't erase or change the filled in colour and my only options are to disable the autofill colour altogether, or to just ignore it. I don't understand why this feature was removed.

2. Remove filename extensions when importing files into GoodNotes (Mac version)

   When importing files such as PDFs into GoodNotes 6 for Mac, the document name keeps the filename extension (e.g., “Document.pdf”).
   Please automatically strip extensions upon import, or at least provide a toggle in settings.

4. Feedback on the new toolbar design — please reconsider.

   I truly don’t understand the decision behind the new toolbar behavior.
   Having option panels suddenly appear below when tapping buttons on the top bar feels incredibly counterintuitive and distracting.

   I’ve never submitted feedback before, but I really believe reverting to the pre-September design would be a wise move.
   Do you personally enjoy using an app that keeps covering your notebook while you’re trying to write?

   I’ve purchased both version 5 and 6, and this redesign is by far the most disappointing change I’ve seen.
   Whoever approved this interface clearly didn’t consider actual usability.

   Please, instead of constantly trying to reinvent what wasn’t broken, focus on maintaining the reliability that made GoodNotes great in the first place.

5. sticky notes - opening direction/page limits

   Thank you for reworking the sticky notes <3 . They are almost perfect now.
   One thing is still impractical though.
   All sticky notes open to the lower right - regardless of their position on the page. It would be great if they intelligently recognized the page borders and opened in such a way as to stay completely visible.
   Reason: Many textbooks and almost all scientific papers have a 2 column layout with only a narrow gap between. Is is only natural to place notes for the right column in the right margin. See image.

   (Another but minor improvement: When a document is not shared/ collaborated on the default for new sticky notes should be that the author name is hidden)

6. disable snap to shapes

   I wish there would be a setting to globally turn off snap to other shapes. I often find it rather annoying when trying to draw lines closely together. A global setting to not be on by default would be a game changer for me.

7. Ink drawn on top of imported elements jump behind when you try to

   Subject: Ink layer jumps behind imported graph elements when selected in GoodNotes 7

   Description:
   When using GoodNotes 7 (currently on version 7.0.8), any ink drawn on top of an imported image or element (for example, a coordinate-grid or graph) behaves incorrectly after being selected.

   Steps to reproduce:
   1. Insert an image or element (such as a coordinate grid) onto the page.
   2. Send the image to the back.
   3. Draw a parabola or any ink stroke on top of the grid using the Pen tool (optionally with Shape Recognition enabled).
   4. After the ink snaps into shape, tap it once to select or move it.

   Expected behavior:
   The ink should remain visible on top of the graph while being moved, resized, or edited—allowing accurate alignment with graph points.

   Actual behavior:
   As soon as the ink is selected, it automatically moves behind the image or element, making it nearly impossible to see or adjust precisely. Once deselected, the ink jumps back in front again. This repeats every time the object is moved.

   Impact:
   This issue makes graphing, geometry, and math-related note-taking extremely difficult, as it prevents precise manipulation of shapes and curves over imported coordinate grids.

8. Different colour pallets/ groups for writing and highlighters

   Have the pen colours and highlighter colours be able to be organised into different colour palettes. Also be able to have different presets for different notebooks!

9. PDF Accessibility

   When exporting PDFs into and out of Goodnotes, accessibility features like alt text on images, reading pane orders, etc. are totally lost. As an instructor, I have been using Goodnotes to annotate pdfs of notes in class, but I cannot post those annotated pdfs because they do not meet our University's accessibility standards. Exporting as editable or flattened files does not help with this.

   Creating a PowerPoint and setting up accessibility info. in it is not difficult, and those translate perfectly to Adobe Acrobat and are recognized by Canvas. Ideally, it seems like Goodnotes handwriting recognition could essentially add alt. text to my annotations for me...but at the very least, it would be nice to be able to export a pdf from Goodnotes that maintains the alt text, reading orders, etc. and I can add annotations for my handwriting or alt text for drawings myself.

   I will have to switch programs for annotating notes in the future if this is not implemented, as will many other instructors at Universities that are now required to meet more strict electronic content accessibility standards.

10. Straightening for the Highlighter Tool

    Since the newest update, the straightening of the highlighting tool has been "improved", i.e. when highlighting and holding at the end of the line, the shape resembles the original handwriting with more details. But that brings a rather glaring downside: when marking, one usually does not highlight in a perfectly straight line but rather with multiple bumps etc. When holding now, the highlighter often is not converted into a straight line through the text but rather a bumpy line with multiple edges and curves. It therefore does not go straight through the text anymore.

    It would be lovely, if GoodNotes would make it so that the adjusted form of the highlighter would resemble the straight line more often, even if the handwriting contained some imperfections.

11. The color of the pencil tool

    For some reason, after the recent update, the pencil tool's color has become very light, and there's no setting to adjust it. I hope you can make the pencil color darker, or add an option to adjust its darkness/opacity.

12. Remove auto-hotbar when using lasso

    When you select something with the lasso, and the hot-bar of options immediately comes up, it gets in the way when you're trying to move things to a specific place, it would be much better if it went back to what it was - selecting using lasso, then tapping the selected area to pull up the object options.

13. erasor tools

    After updating goodn0te tools bar in Sep2025 I found one issue which is after changing back from the lasso tools to writing tools, it's always the eraser. Nomatter what writing tools i used before lasso ( such as pen highlight etc), it is always become erasor

14. Quick access to all pages marked as favourites

    Before the latest update there was the option to access an overview of all pages I marked as favourite pages after clicking on the „four rectangle“ buttom at the top left hand corner.

    There the first tab displayed the overview of all pages and THE SECOND TAB displayed the option to quickly access all my marked favourite pages.

    Now the second tab is the document outline (which was the third one before) and the third now is an overview of audio files. I almost never need audio files but I need the quick access of ALL my favourites sometimes just daily!

    I cannot scroll the first tab with all pages to look for the favourites (sometimes I read books with 1000 pages. If page 567 is the favourite I‘m looking for you are knowing how much time it‘d take searching it!)

    Please make it possible to change the options what these three tabs should display so I can adjust it like I need it or take back the old menu for the three tabs with 1. all pages overview, 2. all favourites overview and 3. outline.

    Please bring back the setting, that you can customize you text field and save the customization. In earlier versions it was able to fine tune the line spacing, now it is too imprecise. It is very bad

    As well we need the function to create tables. It would make so many thing so much easier. Please invent it

16. Horizontal Toolbar Remove - apple pencil pro

    As a apple pencil pro user. The squeeze feature for openning the circle toolbar is self sufficient for changing tools so a settintgs that remove the horizontal toolbar when using apple pencil pro would be a great and easy way to get more space for notebook and usage of the squeeze feature on the pencil. Hope the idea seems great !

17. Bring back the draw and hold for the highlighter (apple)

    Before the update you used to have the option of draw and hold for the highlighter. No you can’t switch it on or off. And the „mandatory draw and hold“ that you provided the highlighter with now is bad. It doesn’t correct the actual wobbles and curves itself but just the last part that comes after the wobbles or nothing at all and it just makes the wobbles more appealing and aesthetically. But its nerve wracking if you mark things fast during lectures and have to fight with not straight lines that sometimes cover the lines below or under. I do understand that it’s great that you can finally highlight unstraight thing and its smoothes them out but for printed texts it’s a literally nightmare. Bring back draw and hold and maybe add options so you can choose on your own if you want the lines to be straight straight or somewhat straightened but keep the actual form and movements you did. The uploaded pics show kind of exaggerated what I mean the wobble would’ve been before corrected into a straight line, now it just gives you an angle or two straight lines that form the wobble.

18. Spline function and connection dots

    We need a spline function, it is really hard and long proctor draw a functions, plus with the new update the connection dots are much bigger and can’t even get a good connection between curves, it drives me crazy because I draw a lot of functions

    Hello, since the Goodnotes 7.0.6 update, using the Shape tool no longer produces a horizontally snapped (0°) underline.
    • Summary: Even when drawing a straight line with the Shape tool, it no longer creates a precisely 0°-snapped underline as before.

20. Format the text and set it as the default style on mac

    The option to change the default setting on Goodnotes on Mac DISSAPPEARED. Doing my state exams rn and I need that option back.
