[Toolbar] Support Customization
Bring back the option to customise the toolbar. I see a recent update has partially returned this feature (allowing to customise the main toolbar options), but this needs to carry over to each toolbar options (pen, pencil, highlighter, etc). Allow reorganising the squeeze pop up menu. This is meant to help streamline productivity, but now having my most used tools all over the place, I’m wasting time scrolling to find them.

[Toolbar Customization is live for Android, Windows and Web 🎉]
Hello,
We're happy to let you know that Toolbar Customization is now live for Android, Windows and Web apps.
For iOS users, this feature has been available since the November 2025 release — and now we’re excited to bring the same flexibility to more platforms.
You can now customize your toolbar in Notebooks and Whiteboards by hiding or showing tools, and reordering them to match your workflow.
Access Toolbar Customization from the Accessories Overlay or from Document Settings (in Notebooks).
For more details, please check out this article: Customize the toolbar.
Feel free to share your feedback and let us know how the feature works for you!

If there would be an option for a smaller favourites toolbar where we can select only the tools that we need. That would free up so much space on my iPad screen. I use a 10.5 inch iPad Pro. I would love to have a smaller tool bar when I am writing that would be very helpful. Even notability has opted for a smaller toolbar in their new updated UI.

--- The problem:
Transitioning from GoodNotes 5 to GoodNotes 6 was a positive change, yet adapting to the new interface and button positions takes time. The absence of a customizable toolbar layout does not allow tailoring the toolbar to personal productivity needs, especially when frequently switching between tools like the pen, zoom, and lasso.
--- Solution suggestion:
Introduce a feature that allows users to customize the arrangement and grouping of icons in the app's toolbar according to their preferences. This will enable users to organize the most frequently used tools closer together, making the workflow smoother and more efficient. Users will have the flexibility to tailor the toolbar layout to their specific needs, ensuring a seamless transition between versions and enhancing their overall experience.
--- Benefits:
* Enhanced User Workflow: Users can arrange icons based on their usage patterns, minimizing the need to swipe or navigate to access commonly used tools.
* Personalization: Empower users to create a personalized toolbar layout that aligns with their individual preferences and tasks.
* Increased Efficiency: Improved organization means users can quickly switch between frequently used tools without interruption, boosting productivity.
* Adaptable to Change: As the app evolves and new tools are introduced, users can easily adapt their toolbar layout to accommodate these changes.--- Implementation ideas:
* Drag-and-Drop Interface: Drag-and-drop interface that allows users to effortlessly rearrange icons within the toolbar.
Tool Grouping: Enable users to group related tools together, ensuring a cohesive and logical organization.
* Default and Reset Options: Provide an option to revert to the default toolbar layout or reset the customization if needed.
* Remove Unused Tools: Include a feature that identifies tools which are accessible in the background but not visible on the screen due to customization. Allow users to remove such tools from the toolbar if they are not used frequently.
* Advanced Feature - multiple custom layouts: Allow users to save their custom toolbar layouts, making it easy to switch between different setups based on different tasks or preferences. -

I agree. I only need pen sizes, colors, the pen and eraser. In the current state at least 50% of my screen are filled with functions I will never use.

100% agree -- it would be great to be able to switch off tools users don't need and have more efficient access to ones they do.
E.g. I mostly switch between pens, highlighters, different erasers and the lasso tool... I find I tend to have to two 2-3 selections for many of those switches:
- pen then different colour of pen
- eraser then eraser sub-menu then just erase highlightsThis could be fixed with a direct access button for e.g. my colour-1 pen, my colour-2 pen, a normal-eraser, a highlights-eraser etc

I have made a design of how you could let us customize the Toolbar to hide the tools that we rarely use or never use them, in a Drop Down Menu in which we can add or remove tools.
It also acts as Hidden Toolbar, if you ever need one of the tools inside the Menu, you can simply tap on it (for example, the Typing Mode) and it will be selected and replace the one that is active in the Toolbar (in the image this is the Laser) and show the settings of the tool (in this case, the Style & Formatting, Paragraph and Colour) in the right of the tools in the Toolbar. -

We should be able to hide unsuited tool in the toolbar. This would be especially useful for when I use GoodNotes in a split screen mode on my iPad Pro. It’s just simply not an efficient use of space to have so many tools that I never use and it makes the things I do use harder to access.

Customisable toolbar will be awesome. I like to switch colours a lot when highlighting. And as a lefty, I need to move my hands all the way across to change colours too often.

I think it would be a great idea to be able to make changes to the tool bar. I have a couple tools that I would never use so it would be nice to hide those.

Definitely need toolbar customization. Being able to add/remove unused tools would be perfect for managing the limited space. E.g. when editing two documents side by side, I would rather see my pen thickness options and a few colours as opposed to the shape, sticker, image, textbox, and pointer tools.
Also, if the pen size and colour scroll could be kept separate, that would be amazing. I.e. sliding the colour sections to the ones on the far right without the three pen thickness options being slid over and partially hidden.

Many tools in tool bar are not used frequently, so we need option to customise and rearrange tools in tool bar for more frequently used tools.

The toolbar should be movable from its usual fixed spot (top or bottom). And when you start scribbling notes, the toolbar should go transparent. This would be so great to have!

Yes! Toolbar customization is a must for usability. The last update allows for adding more pen/highlighter colors, but now the pen/highlighter sizes are hidden behind a button for me (on iPad mini 6). This is essentially a downgrade for me since I constantly switch pen sizes just as much as colors. Being able to customize the toolbar to remove or hide the functions I barely ever or never use (zoom, stickers, shapes, laser pointer) so there is more room for pen sizes and colors would be a HUGE improvement. I am starting to look at other apps to see if they have the features I want, as the current version (5.9.90) is hindering my use.

I would love a tool bar that is customizable (like most tool bars in MacOS or also some tool bars in iPadOS 16).
For example, I don't need the stickers-tool or shapes-tool and would rather hide them. At the same time I would love to have more than 3 color/thickness options in the tool bar.
Since every user has different needs, a customizable tool bar would probably be better than just adding more color and thickness options. It would improve the user experience since every user would be able to declutter the tool bar specific to his/her needs.
I would love this feature!
Nevertheless, thanks for your amazing work so far <3

This issue has been talked about since 2019 on different forums and on this page and they still haven’t updated it. Honestly poor from their behalf. If they really care about their users, they would have implemented it as this issue was discussed.

The recent update removed the “add to favourites” bottom from the tool bar. It became really inconvenient to go through the books without that bottom in the toolbar.
