[Lasso] Allow creating multiple text boxes without switching to the lasso
Stop having lasso be the default tool. I cannot even remove it from the toolbar. It is frustrating that everything always goes back to lasso. I can’t even do multiple text boxes one after the other because once you type in a text box once and click off it goes straight to lasso instead of having text toggled on like it used to
Hello! Thanks so much for your feedback and for sharing your ideas with us.
We’re excited to let you know that we’ve updated the Text tool and introduced a new dedicated floating menu for text boxes, including more customization options.
One of the new tools is Pin Text Tool — when enabled, it keeps the Text tool active so you can create multiple text boxes continuously without having to reselect it each time.
This is especially helpful when you're focused on adding or adjusting text in your notes. The pin will automatically turn off once you switch to another tool.
Feel free to try it out and let us know how it works for you!
This improvement is available in the latest Apple update.

MAKE DEFAULT TOOL A USER CHOICE
- This new update to set the lasso tool to default has angered the online community and heavy users like myself. I rarely use the lasso tool and other tools heavily. By making the default snap back to the lasso tool this update has effectively doubled even tripled my workflow time. It’s a huge disruption and it makes me so fucking angry. Change it so the user can CHOOSE. JFC. How could you make it so bad? -

How is the new update making the entire app lag slower than a 2010 computer? With lasso being the default tool I have to click the textbox again and again just to put in multiple text boxes. I want to type my notes, not lasso them around. Please fix this bug because it's causing major inconvenience to many. Everything is lagging slower than my brain and that's saying something. The text keeps hanging on its own and it's less than 1/10 of its original speed. Your update is so bad it's more a downgrade than an improvement.

The tool bar after the new update sucks it is inconvenient. The old tool bar was much better. The lasso tool should NOT be the default tool. Once I tap off the text bar it goes to lasso when I’m just trying to move the page it’s ridiculous. The new read only button is also not useful. To move things without lasso u have to go and click that each time it is inconvenient and a lot when taking notes. I miss the old tool bar. Even clicking off the pen tool it’s still on the pen and it is not helpful in the slightest before I could click of the pen tool and I’d be on read mode. We also can’t move the tool bar out of the way anymore. Most importantly is getting rid of the lasso tool as the default tool. It is messing up my work and makes moving around or navigating the documents way to difficult. At least make read only mode the default. Im glad to see im not the only one who feels like this. Please fix soon because until then I can’t easily or properly take notes like I used to.

I have had good notes for 3 years and the new update is so awful. The snapping a line feature is so messed up it was great before. The layout kills productivity with the new tabs and the laso tool being moved and it defaulting to eraser when I go back. I loved good notes and don’t know how much longer I can take the new update before I switch. I don’t want to because I love good notes before the update. I need help making it how it was before.

I second this! It is very frustrating to have to continuously re-select the text box option while following along trying to take notes in class.

an option to at least turn this automatic return feature on/off would be greatly appreciated. For now, it is extremely annoying especially after building habits over years of using this program

The new text box mode is so inefficient for taking notes on the lecuture manuscripts, you need to double tap to confirm the box and it switches back to lasso tool after one box. Bring the old one back or give us the option to so these different tools won't deselect after placing one item etc.

This needs to be brought back. It's hindering me taking notes efficiently during class. Why do I have to double tap to confirm the text box, and then on top of that it switches back to lasso tool after one box.
Please bring it back goodnotes ASAP... -

I wanted to share some feedback regarding the recent update to the typing feature in GoodNotes. I primarily use the app to type my notes for my master’s classes, and I only use the pen and highlighter occasionally for color or emphasis.
With the new update, the option to type anywhere on the page has become much more difficult to use. Before, I could simply select “Type” and continue typing across pages seamlessly. Now, I have to press and hold the text icon, select the typing mode, and even then, if I accidentally tap outside the text box, it stops working. It feels clunky and disrupts my note-taking flow.
The previous version was much smoother and more efficient for users like me who mainly type instead of handwriting. I really preferred the older setup — it allowed me to focus on my notes without having to constantly adjust settings or reselect tools.
I hope you consider bringing back the old typing behavior or offering an option to switch to it in the settings. It would make a huge difference for those of us who primarily type our notes.

The new update is incredibly impractical and deters me from using this platform. I have been a good notes user for years, and this update makes me want to switch. Having to click on the text every single time you want to type on your notes makes no sense. There's just way too much clicking now, where before everything was laid out so nicely, and so easy to use. Now its just confusing and makes my life more difficult while taking notes during lecture.

Please let us get the old toolbar back AND cancel the fact that the lasso tool is activated by default everytime you switch to something, I like my organisation system to review my classes which implies to fill color coded squares AND I CAN'T DO THAT IN PEACE ANYMORE because everytime I try to readjust the color IT SWITCHES TO LASSO and forces A TEXT BUBBLE and I'm going to cry from frustation so please, PLEASE let us go back to the old toolbar. I really love this app and use it for all my classes, but it's getting more and more frustrating.
+ The bookmark thing is not efficient at all I liked to be able to mark, unmark and check if a page was marked wile taking notes and listening to my professor.(Edited by admin) -

Whenever I use a text box, it swaps back to the lasso tool automatically, which really slows me down when I want to start another text type by clicking the text box icon again and again. This is so time-wasting, inefficient and ineffective. I don’t see any special reason to force the users to use the lasso tool as a default function. At least the officials should give the users choices on choosing the default tool!

Hello GoodNotes team,
Since the latest update I’ve noticed that after typing in a text box, the app always switches back to the lasso tool. This interrupts my workflow, especially when I want to create multiple text boxes in a row.
It would be very helpful if there was an option to keep the Text Tool selected as the default tool, just like we can with the pen or highlighter. In GoodNotes 5 this was possible, but in version 6 it seems to have been removed.
Could you please bring back (or explain how to enable) a “Keep Text Tool selected” option? Many users who type a lot in text boxes would benefit from this.
Thank you very much for considering this feature request!
