Add a way to close file navigator and return to document tabs
There are two view modes in Goodnotes:
- File navigation
- Documents tabs (the documents already open)
We can switch from 2 to 1.
But for some baffling reason there is no way to simply switch from 1 to 2. Instead there is only the contrived way of having to open any file in order to return to 2.
I do not know why Goodnote's UI/UX team has been thinking all these years that that be an okay solution. No other programme does this and it is counterintuitive.
Could you please add this? It's so easy to do. E.g. you could add a close file explorer cross or a return to documents tab button in the file navigation view.

Spotted this thread while browsing and it got me thinking — is there an update on this suggestion for Goodnotes? It seems like a super practical change that could enhance usability. Anyone heard if the team has addressed this or if there are workarounds in the meantime? Would love to hear thoughts or updates from fellow users!

I’ve bumped into the same pain point and it slows me down more than I’d like to admit. A quick escape button or swipe gesture would feel way smoother than backing out step by step. I’ve started using a two-finger swipe to jump around, but it’s still a bit of a hack. Having a clean one-tap way back to the main library would keep the flow going without breaking stride.
