The Obtrusive Recording Indicator in GoodNotes is Pushing Me Away
I’ve been a dedicated GoodNotes user since early 2021, having chosen it over Notability after extensive research. It was a near-perfect note-taking app for me, and the one-time purchase model made it even more appealing. Over the years, I’ve adjusted to its shortcomings because, overall, the experience was solid.
However, in mid-2024, as I began my MBA, the necessity of recording lectures became undeniable. But to my absolute frustration, GoodNotes makes this process far from discreet. The recording indicator is blatantly visible—a glaring orange timer that continuously updates, drawing unnecessary attention. Every time I record, people notice and start asking me for transcripts, flashcards, or summaries, assuming I’m now the designated “note distributor” just because I have the recording. It’s frustrating beyond words.
Not only is it socially disruptive, but the constantly changing numbers are incredibly distracting while writing. There’s no option to minimize, fade, or hide it. Compare this to Notability, where, while not perfect, there’s at least a workaround to keep the recording discreet. I was so annoyed that despite already purchasing GoodNotes Premium, I paid ₹1,200 for a Notability subscription—just to escape this issue.
The irony? I still like GoodNotes. I love the writing experience, but I cannot return as flash card generation and quizzes is not added like notability has and most importantly while unless this issue is addressed, Recording should be a personal tool, not a public announcement. Please, give users the choice to record discreetly without an obtrusive timer announcing it to the world. Until then, I—and likely many others—will be forced to look elsewhere.

Please make the android app a proper app like iOS instead of it just being the web version. It's incredibly slow and buggy.

Customized widget and wallpaper
🎀 Adding a widget feature on the home screen (Documents) and in any section is better, to make it customized through individuals' perspectives. For more clarity, this includes different sizes of widgets, photo widget (from Pinterest, notion, or even from the device itself), customizes to-do list (customized shape (framed and unframed), colour, wallpaper, and bullet point), clock widget and etc.
🎀 Moreover, customized wallpaper (colour, fancy frame, etc.) will improve the user's comfort, space, and creativity. It will help the users find their pace to suitable mood, zone, and comfortability.1 vote -
Does not Work
I love this app, and I use it really frequently for school. This app is the best and most practical, one can have on their iPad. BUT, I find it very annoying and sad if I pay money for the app ( first to download it, than to use it, and after a few months i had to pay again to use the app even though I have already paid this amount , just because of a huge update) and than every time I use the app it completely shuts down, erases all my notes, and afterwards acts like a offended child so that i can’t be use it at all because the hole app is frozen. I know that this can be caused by my iPad, but my iPad is brand new and this awful situation not only happens to me but to many other students in my class which use Goodnotes. So please, could you fix your app first before thinking about new features and updates. It would be very nice and safe me a lot of nerves (i have already lost a good amount because of this issue and will probely have an anorissm soon if I can’t study for my exams just because Goodnotes wants to teas me) if you would fix this soon. Thank you :)

On iOS, there is an API to do so UIViewController/prefersHomeIndicatorAutoHidden.
Hiding the home indicator can maximum the app space that can be used, as well as prevent users from leaving the app accidentally.

Audio transcription for iOS older generations
Please make the transcript available to all users regardless of their iOS device. Why is that notability has this feature available for all users, but your company has this feature only available for certain iOS devices ?

Scroll past margin
Please add the option to be able to scroll past the margin. Right now, it is very inconvenient to write at the bottom / right side of the page, since your hand is on the edge of the iPad. Let us move the page up past its border for easier writing

A scrollbar that allows you to navigate through a long document more quickly.
It would be really helpful to have a scrollbar that makes it quicker to scroll through long documents or notebooks. A simple, draggable bar would make navigation much more efficient.

Keep “Return to Previous Page” Button Visible for Multiple Pages
Currently, when jumping to a different page, the “Return to Previous Page” button disappears after scrolling about half a page forward.
Often, when studying, I follow references in the text by using Goodnotes’ internal links to jump to a previous page. However, if the referenced content spans multiple pages, I need to read through those pages before returning. By the time I finish reading and attempt to go back, the “Return to Previous Page” button has already disappeared, making navigation inconvenient.

Alternatively, a different approach, like Kindle’s system of keeping multiple jump history records, would be even better.

Use Placeholder Instead of Pre-Filled URL in Link Input
Currently, when adding a link, the input field is pre-filled with an actual URL instead of a placeholder.
This requires manually deleting the existing text before entering a new link, which is inconvenient.I would like the input field to display a placeholder instead of an actual URL by default. This would improve usability and streamline the process of adding links.

Pen Opacity
Being able to adjust the pen opacity so you get multiple shades of one color without lifting the pen and can see overlap. This really helps make notes look more realistic and aesthetically pleasing. I use max opacity on procreate and it’s perfect.

Continuous Typing Mode
A scrollable, infinite page (like in Word or Google Docs) would make typing much smoother and more practical for longer notes.

Add Auto-Scrolling Page Option Like Microsoft OneNote and Apple Notes
I’ve been using GoodNotes 6 on my iPad Air 11-inch M2 with iPadOS 18.3.2 and while I love the app’s handwriting tools and organization, there’s one feature missing that I’ve found incredibly useful in both Microsoft OneNote and Apple Notes: auto-scrolling pages. Right now, when I’m writing in GoodNotes, I have to manually drag the page to move to the next section or page, which feels clunky and interrupts my flow—especially during long note-taking sessions like lectures or brainstorming.
In both OneNote and Apple Notes, the page automatically scrolls as I write near the edge, seamlessly expanding the canvas or transitioning to the next page without me needing to stop and drag. I’d love to see a similar option in GoodNotes, maybe as a toggle in the settings (e.g., “Auto-Scroll Mode”), where the page shifts naturally as my stylus approaches the bottom or side. This could work in both vertical and horizontal scrolling modes and would make writing feel so much smoother and less tedious. It’s a bit surprising GoodNotes doesn’t have this yet, given how intuitive it is in these other apps. Adding it would be a huge boost for those of us who write a lot and want to stay focused without constant manual adjustments. Thanks for considering this—it’d really bring GoodNotes in line with competitors and elevate the app’s usability for me and others who’ve noticed this gap!

Two-Way Sync via WebDAV
A two-way sync would allow me to synchronize the data over multiple devices.
This means that a backup on Nextcloud can be restored without the need to import each document separately.Additionally, it allows the user to share documents with others and sync any changes made to the document.
This would a huge productivity boost for
