Apple Pencil Contexual Menu
Immediately after I started using the app to take notes in class, I have found myself wanting a contextual menu that can show up around the pencil.
My idea would be to use the double tap in the Apple Pencil, or a double tap of the Pencil on a note (or another shortcut), that would open a menu around the last position of the Pencil.
This menu would have color palette, tool options, and tool selection.
This could allow the user to have the toolbar off or just have a shortcut to the toolbar options.
Hello,
The Apple Pencil menu is already available. Simply squeeze the barrel of your Apple Pencil gently while writing or drawing, and the assigned menu or action will appear instantly.

An option to have a radial/floating menu of favourites like different pens (with set color and size), lasso tool, eraser, highlighter, etc. that can be pulled up with custom gesture like long tap with finger or the double tap on the Apple Pencil.
As a student, who frequently needs to switch between different pen colors and sizes, always having to reach up for the menu bar takes time and so a shortcut that can be accessed directly where my pen is would be incredibly helpful. Even just switching between two different pen sizes with a gesture would help a lot.
Goodnotes is my favourite note-taking app and I really love how you ask for and actually implement user requests. Thank you for all your hard work.

The app “Concepts” adapted this format, although they don’t use it to its full potential. I suggested the same thing in depth over here:

I would love for such a menu to include a “paste” option. As it stands, it’s so hard to paste text into a text field - clicking in the field with an Apple Pencil just starts an Apple Scribble and draws a period instead of bringing up the option to paste. The worst part is that SOMETIMES it does bring up the option to paste, but only about 10% of the time. So I’m forever drawing and deleting periods and dashes until I’m given the option to paste.

It would be nice to finally get rid of blue menu bar while editing..
Maybe you could instead ADD a floating QUICK MENU bar, for most important menu choices.. ( Like pen/ereaser/lasso ,colour, text) Or less even..
OR: Implement a radial QUICK MENU..You could make it accessible via gesture, like let's say : click and hold pen together with ONE FINGER tap or soo..
That would make it posible to write with NO distractions and optimal space -

Currently the actions that can be performed on a selection show up as a horizontal list, which means that they are very spread out and require relatively large movements to reach (for instance "delete" is to the far right).
I propose replacing it with a wheel-like menu, where the actions are indicated by icons rather than spelled out, like in the attached drawing. This would make all actions easily accessible without moving the pen very far.

I like how the app Procreate has implemented their Quick Menu. It is fast and easy to pull up. Users can assign their preferred tools to the different slots in the menu. I would love a gesture-activated Quick Menu in GoodNotes. It can speed up my workflow to a great extent. I would enjoy the process more too because I will no longer have to stop to reach for the tool that I want or to go through menu options. The process becomes faster and more intuitive without interfering with my train of thought.

Instead of moving your hand up to the top or bottom of the screen to scroll to a new tool or change the color have a wheel that can be placed any where on the screen with just a tap and slide you can change the tool or change the color from presets

Add a semi-transparent context menu somewhere above the Pencil tip that slides with the pencil when writing. It should contain user definable actions. It should disappear after a certain amount of time when no writing action takes place. It should be possible to disable the menu at all for those not wanting it.
You could then select actions much quicker. -

The buttons on the Adonit should bring up a menu right were the stylus is, like a circle around it and were I can choose the main controls like undo redo erase draw, straight line, ..
