Option to Hide Tabs & The top tool bar
I think like PowerPoint, it'd be good to be able to collapse the purple toolbar (that sits above the pen tools). It honestly takes up a lot of vertical space and is unnecessary for the entirety of a notetaking session.
We normally don't need to access the notebook name, tabs, recording, share, etc. immediately and therefore it is a waste of space for it to be visible sometimes.
It should be easily collapsed, and some essential tools like back and forward could be moved to the writing tools row that should be the one to only show.
On an 11" iPad Pro, removing this row might finally allow you to actually see an entire A4 document nearly edge-to-edge (excluding the writing row)

Different James here. The floating tool bar, no matter where it goes also takes up an annoying amount of space.
With an apple pencil on ipad, its easy to switch between two tools - say pen and highlighter. For those of use who primarily use GN for readings, it would be great to hide either or both of these tool bars.
Hiding the floating toolbar currently is undone by changing tools, either with keyboard commands or tapping the pencil. It would be awesome if - at least - the floating bar could stay hidden when switching tools.

Agreed. Lots of UI steal, especially on iPad Mini, it occupies 10-15% of the space. The space becomes really tight even if the Status Bar is hidden. Toggling this would make things much nicer.

most of the time i'm just using the app to annotate or write on one document, there should be a toggle for turning the tabs on or off based on user preference.

It’s just a waste of space and source of distraction
