[Lasso] Allow creating multiple text boxes without switching to the lasso
Stop having lasso be the default tool. I cannot even remove it from the toolbar. It is frustrating that everything always goes back to lasso. I can’t even do multiple text boxes one after the other because once you type in a text box once and click off it goes straight to lasso instead of having text toggled on like it used to
Hello! Thanks so much for your feedback and for sharing your ideas with us.
We’re excited to let you know that we’ve updated the Text tool and introduced a new dedicated floating menu for text boxes, including more customization options.
One of the new tools is Pin Text Tool — when enabled, it keeps the Text tool active so you can create multiple text boxes continuously without having to reselect it each time.
This is especially helpful when you're focused on adding or adjusting text in your notes. The pin will automatically turn off once you switch to another tool.
Feel free to try it out and let us know how it works for you!
This improvement is available in the latest Apple update.

Please address this immediately. This is such a waste of productivity and is so annoying that I'm actively testing other apps to replace Goodnotes!

Please remove the lasso as default. I would to like to consistently use textbox handwriting when taking notes on slides. Allow margins to have writing when PDFs slides are imported like onenote does

Please fix ASAP. As a long time user and proponent of this app, this is very disappointing that this is a thing! Filling out forms has become double the work. We want a simple option. No AI

I regularly use Goodnotes to take notes during my lectures, and I have the same issue. My workflow involves creating many text boxes in succession and placing them onto the slides. However, after the recent update, the app automatically disables the text box tool and switches back to the lasso tool every time I finish typing. This forces me to manually reselect the text box tool each time, which slows down my workflow significantly.
Could you please look into this issue or let me know if there is a setting I may have overlooked? The previous behavior—where the text box tool stayed active until I chose a different tool—was much more efficient for my note-taking process.
Thank you very much for your help and for your continued work on improving the app.

This update made the app unusable for me. I couldn't make it a a whole day after the update before I switched to Notability.

Please remove the lasso tool as default. It’s annoying that you can’t create multiple text boxes without constantly needing to click the text box option. At least provide the option choose a default tool.

HATE that it goes back to lasso after every text box! I also HATE that the default text option is in the menu now and not readily available on the tool bar. Seriously considering switching to notability.

Very frustrating to have goodnotes default back to lasso every time I use a text box. Disrupts the work flow and it didn't used to be like this. Please fix.

This has completely destroyed my workflow. Im using other apps now but want this fixed because it should not be doing this. Also the other apps aren’t as good and when it didnt keep jumping to lasso

Agree 100%. Having Lasso as the default is a constant interruption — please let the app remember the last tool used instead. It’s a small tweak that would make a big difference.

This is ridiculous. I use Goodnotes for so many things regularly, especially the elements tool. I don't know where in your design process you thought that this was a good UX design. The point is to get users to the end goal through the least amount of steps possible. This is beyond poor app design and completely disregards your own MVP - making note taking and designing more efficient. This makes me want to scream in frustration every time I open the app. Not happy...

The update kinda sucks. It is really annoying that the lasso tool is now the default option, and I no longer know how to change the default settings for when I'm typing or writing. before it was just apart of the toolbar when the icon was clicked. I seem to be having a hard time finding it if its still an option. Like if you choose the text box icon you could choose a default font and font size, now i do not know where to change that if possible. Can you please switch it back or incorporate those parts again? Thank you!

It sounds like the default tool behavior is disrupting your workflow, especially when switching frequently between text and other functions. You might find it helpful to submit feedback to the developers so they can consider adding a persistent tool toggle option. I’ve seen users streamline their work by exploring Pet Management Apps https://vca-woofapps.com that offer more stable editing controls and customization features. Adjusting tool settings or using alternative editors during intensive text work could also reduce frustration.

I agree! Please stop making Lasso the default tool - this is incredibly frustrating. It should just stay on the last tool you picked.

Terrible que hayan tomado esta decisión, cada uno debería poder seleccionar su herramienta predeterminada de acuerdo al uso que le da a good notes, si esto no se resuelve perderán a varios clientes. Por favor hagan algo pronto.

Came back to the app after a while to find this update. The default lasso tool has got to be one of the worst updates. Very inefficient and makes me not want to use goodnotes anymore and just use the regular notes app instead. Terrible.

I use many text boxes on my pages. It's extremely frustrating that the lasso tool reactivates immediately after editing a text box. This makes Goodnotes unusable for me.
