Inline LaTeX support for typed text in GoodNotes
Hi GoodNotes team,
I’m a heavy GoodNotes user on [iPad / Mac / iPhone] and I absolutely love using the app for studying and taking math/technical notes.
I’ve noticed that GoodNotes currently doesn’t support inline LaTeX rendering in regular typed text (for example, writing $x^2 + y^2 = 1$ in a text box and having it render as nicely formatted math). I know you have great math / equation tools, but those generate separate equation objects rather than letting us mix math and normal text seamlessly in the same paragraph.

Pencil stabilization
In apps like procreate you can change the level of stability of your pen to get smoother lines. I believe the Apple notes app also has a bit of it incorporated so the hand writing is cleaner and does not look like writing with a mouse on a pc. It would be great to have a stability or assistance regulation feature in the pencil options as the hand writing gets very difficult compared to other apps.

Larger view of Study Flash Card function
When I am trying to use the “study flash cards” function, it’s often too small to see, even when I write really large on them. No matter whether I see it on a tablet or laptop. I want a function so i can expand the study flash card window because it presents my flash cards so small and I can’t make it bigger to see it more easily.

Scribble function on Apple Pencil (handwrite to text) autocorrecting capital letters
Using the Apple Pencil Scribble function to convert handwritten words to typed text in realtime works very well, but it automatically converts capital letters (particularly the first letter of a word that is meant to be capitalized) to lowercase letters. For example, writing “Energy” with a capital E changes the word to “energy” with lowercase e. It also underlines the autocorrected word in blue. Tapping or selecting the word underlined in blue gives no option to change it back to the intended capitalization. more highlighter versatility
can we have the ability to adjust more highlighter settings, for example the ability to change the opacity of it and be able to make the general size of the highlighter smaller (similar to how the standard pens can be 0.3 rather than have 1.0 as the smallest option)

Preset text colour
I hope this gets seen!! It’s been a year!!
Please let us preset text colours, I use text most of the time as it’s neater.
I’m sure it’s not that hard to add in presets for text as you’ve already done so for highlighters and pens.

Copy screenshot directly to clipboard
When you use the lasso tool to take a screenshot, it would be nice if it copied it directly to your clipboard so you didn’t have to do ~~> share ~~> copy ~~> exit. I often need to screenshot lecture slides, and doing this series of motions repeatedly takes up a lot of time in real time as the professor is speaking. Having s feature where it a lasso screenshot is be automatically copied would be great

Show Date Created as well as Date Last Modified
This is not a major, groundbreaking change, but I think it’d be incredibly useful for some use cases if GoodNotes showed the date that notes were created as well as when they were last modified.
I often want to go back to notes that were created around a particular date, such as, say, November 2016. Once I make a change to an old note I currently have no way of knowing when it was originally created. I do a lot of planning that requires knowing when documents were created, which is making me regret having stored my docs in GoodNotes…

Math paper templates
It would be good to have some more versatile, mathematical or scientific paper templates. For example, a split page (similar to a Cornell note-taking), where one side is ruled and the other is graph paper. Perhaps, a graph section on the top half, and a ruled or blank section underneath where one could add notes or symbolic work. Also, paired with this suggestion is the echo to add math conversion tools, converting to a display equation with LaTeX. Mass changing of font
I would love to be able to lasso a bunch of text boxes and change the font on all to the same font. Ie Lasso all text boxes and change font to Arial.

Pencil support in Flashcard mode
Flashcards are a great way to learn.
But when studying topics that are more complicated than vocabulary it would be very helpful to be able to write down the answer before checking if it was correct. (For example mathematical derivations). Writing the answer also helps with learning.My idea is that the flashcard screen shows two flashcards: One with the question (like it already does) and one, that is blank. Make it so the search function recognizes text on pictures.
A lot of the notes I download for school have diagrams with text labels that the search function doesn't find. An OCR program built into the search function would smooth this over and wouldn't be difficult.

change pen thickness after writing without changing size
When the writing is too small or the pen thickness not thick enough, one can change the size of the writing separately of its thickness. Now it is only possible to select the whole area to make the ratio bigger or smaller, i.e. the whole word becomes bigger and thicker at the same time. It would be nice to be able to change size and thickness individually, e.g. bigger and same thickness or same size but thicker lines.

A Button to Instantly Convert Pasted Text Into Default Settings
When I use my Mac along with my iPad for Goodnotes, I will use my laptop to copy and paste longer text into my the notebook that I am working on. So if I copy and paste from a website, I always have to change the font and font size to what I want it to be.
I think there should be a button in the styling area that says "Convert to Default" or maybe even a pop up button after you paste something that says "Convert to Default" or "Convert to Default Font."
This would be very convenient!

Full-fledge Text Editor
Allow text to be added directly to the paper rather than using text boxes. This will create a more seamless structure of handwriting and text like Notability. A text box that shifts around the screen has its uses, but as a primary text input method, it is a disappointing experience. Where lined paper is used, the lines should also adapt to the font size and text positioning in a similar way to notability. When pictures are added to the document, the text should wrap around it. OCR image to text converter for searches
Either code your own or employ a OCR image to text converter. As a student, a lot of the content of my notes are pictures of diagrams or other tables with text. The text on these photos aren’t recognized by the search function but this would be greatly beneficial for being able to find the notes that I need.

Have better math management (for example tables, better graphics, be able to do graphics from table etc...)

Colour coding file
Colour coding folders!! Maybe just a tab or something in the corner, but it’s so much easier to find a folder by colour than by skimming the names.

Tool Position-ing on the side(s) AND Undo button
To be able to position the Tool Bar AND the Undo button on the sides; the newest versions allow to position it on the bottom or top only. I think side placement is more helpful for Apple Pencil Version 1 users as I’m sure we quietly use the undo or eraser button quite a lot.
