True dark mode
When the device is on dark mode, have text and pdfs invert colors (similar to apple notes and new dark mode on notability).

The Problem
When we use GoodNotes in Dark Mode, the app interface switches beautifully, but the actual notebook page remains glaring white. This is highly distracting and causes significant eye strain when studying or working at night. The Feature Request
We need an option for a True Dark Mode that automatically handles color inversion on the canvas:
1. Page Inversion: A standard white page should automatically turn black or dark gray when Dark Mode is enabled.
2. Smart Ink Translation: All existing light colors (like white ink, light yellow highlights, or bright text) must be automatically converted to dark, complementary colors (e.g., black ink, dark yellow highlights) to ensure high readability and contrast on the new dark background. Why This Matters
This is essential for a consistent, comfortable, and accessible user experience. A true Dark Mode is a must-have feature that many users are requesting to protect their eyes and improve late-night productivity.
Upvote this idea if you want to save your eyes and get a proper Dark Mode! -

Such an easy fix but still has not yet been implemented. Might turn back to Apple Notes.

I’d like to request a full Dark Mode, comparable to Notability, including:
• Dark UI and dark page/paper backgrounds
• Automatic ink/highlighter/sticker color adjustment for readability
• Both per-notebook and global settings, plus an option to follow system appearanceThis would reduce eye strain when writing/reading at night and improve usability on high-contrast displays. If Goodnotes offered this, I would return and subscribe.
Thank you for considering this.

This is by far the best note program I have every used - except for no dark mode. I do use the dark theme, which is easy on the eyes, but impossible to print. All these new features released, but still no real dark mode? Why? There is certainly demand for it out here. PLEASE ADD TRUE DARK MODE - and one that will convert documents already in the dark theme to a light theme - even if it only converts the dark background and the white handwriting/text to dark, leaving the other colors as they are. This would be acceptable.

Hello GoodNotes Team,
I love using GoodNotes for note-taking, but I think a dark mode specifically for handwriting templates would be a great addition. While the app supports dark mode for menus, the note pages themselves remain white, which can strain the eyes during long study or work sessions.
With a dark mode for note pages, users could:
Reduce eye strain during night-time or low-light usage.
Customize page backgrounds for better visibility of handwriting.
Maintain the same experience without affecting exported notes.
This feature would enhance comfort and usability for long note-taking sessions. Thank you for considering it!

I would really like this to be added so that I could better view Goodnotes and still keep my iPad in dark mode

This is extremely frustrating, I am stuck looking at my black board with all black notes unable to write anything at all or even change the background.

Still waiting to see this feature, the only reason people might prefer notability.

Change between dark and light mode manually, so the iPad can be in dark mode and the app in light mode.

This is the reason I’m using notability and noteful. A simple switch of ink color and paper color would be a huge QOL update for this app.

There must be provision of NIGHT MODE to turn pdf dark while reading at night. Kindly add this feature so that it become more convenient to work at night without too much straining on eyes.
I attach a screenshot of this features which is provided in NOTABILITY.
It is my humble request to the team to kindly incorporate this feature.

Dark mode for GoodNotes that works like in Notability: PDFs are inverted, and notes created in dark mode are automatically adjusted for printing.

I really like how the app looked in Goodnotes 5. I feel like the saturation of the colors in Goodnotes 5 was easier on my eyes. One of the reasons (if not, main) why I didn't switch to Goodnotes 6 was because of how deeply saturated the background and stuff looked. It is really harsh on my eyes, and the background is just straight black.
Can there be a way to have the Goodnotes 5 saturation but still having the features of Goodnotes 6? Or perhaps adding an option to where you can adjust the saturation and color of it kinda like how book apps do? Supporting images to show what I am referring to!

Please add this! Most of my time using Goodnotes is using at night in the dark… every other app that I use automatically offers this. I can’t believe this isn’t an option. I hunted for ages thinking surely this is a feature I’m just missing it?
